Quick update with my Elantra N knock sensor situation

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

What’s up guys I try to erase the knock sensor code with my little scan tool but no luck unfortunately and dealers don’t want to take care of my car right away cause you have to schedule an appointment even if you have an emergency 🤷‍♂️ I guess nobody really cares and you have to count on yourself 🫤 I guess that’s how dealing with car dealership looks like lol

Marcin, the sensor itself is probably fine. The issue is moisture getting into the connector; once it does, the code will just keep coming back. Try disconnecting, thouroughly drying with canned air or a compressor, then reconnect with dielectric grease. Then clear the code, and take it from there. I have the exact same issue, that was the dealerships latest remedy attempt. See my comment on a previous video for a deeper explanation.

Had the knock sensor issue happen on my 2023 kona N after a car wash at like 10am the other day. Coeared the code 3 times on my way home to get home. Let car dry in the sun tilll around 12:30pm. Cleared codes and tryed to drive and it came back. Limped to my local dealer and they were on lunch. Waited till about 1pm for them to get off lunch. They looked at my car and found the knock sensor has gone bad. Said they had one in stock and would take a few hours. Drove me home and then came and picked me up at about 4:45pm just before they closed. All fixed. So from me going to the dealer to having issue fixed was less then 4 hours with no appointment. All covered under warrenty. Seems like i got a pretty good local dealer

The first few minutes of this vid is EXACTLY why I left the brand. Talk crap on VW all day, but there are TONS of independent shops with experience and expertise and you don't have to rely on dealers and their shenanigans. Hyundai/Kia techs have some of the lowest morale and honestly wouldn't want them working on my car given how they view owners and how much crap they have to deal with.

In previous model years. Not the newer 2.0t specific. There is a TSB for knock sensor code. Replace knock sensor if code persists to replace engine. 18-01-032 is the TSB number check it out. Best method is to schedule an appointment at the dealer for a full service at your mileage, tell them you want to do every service at that mileage and when they agree tell them the light came on as you were driving there. They will have to call you before doing any work obviously with an estimate. Agree and say only after the rectify the check engine and have everything on your bill.

All dealers have wait times. Dealers are like hospitals. Cars are sick people. Better off going to like a Firestone. Yes, you'll pay but you'll have your car in a day. Or you can do it yourself. So lesson, never use a car wash. And I agree. Someone needs to make an aftermarket cover for it.

Nice try man. I'm so frustrated as well about this issue. Car is perfect except for this one big annoying issue. I do my own wash and use a sprayer on wheels attached to my power washer and have no issue. I NEVER use car washes anymore, because it could easily trigger it. We need to find a picture of the sensor and see if someone is willing to make a cover for it.

Dielectric grease between the connector and the sensor should solve the issue... for a while anyway if not for good. And you need a better scanner to erase a permanent code. You can however, erase any code without using a scanner but... that's another story.

Sucks that the scanner didn't work. Is this happening to every N owner? I wonder if its a bad batch of sensors hyundai used or if it's just the placement on the car... Couple of years ago Mitsu had a problem with fuel pump relays (their supplier). Came out with a revised version and it fixed the issue.

Eventually when the weather gets better i want to lift the car and see if i can somehow have that sensor covered or figure something out so no water can get there. But in your video u said you took it to the car wash before your trip right? Did u do undercarriage spray? Do u hand spray wash your car in the winter?

Yeah I heard that too. He had the car washed and then he parked it before he left on his trip. Then the weather got really bad so I'm guessing the sensor got wet and then it froze. But it's not his fault it's the car's fault it's a bad designed sensor.

Going to suck if we all get a recall, I’ve been through undercarriage sprays and AS OF NOW my girl did not throw a engine light tantrum. Strange..what I can say is that the build quality of the car is…questionable, my rear diffuser accent cracked from the weather (as in the whole bumper is fine except for the red strip, apparently it was the exposure from the heat of the exhaust that weakened the material and it just gave up in the harsh colds of Canada)

Did it crack in the winter? If so could be from the ice/snows I live in Canada as well and my biggest concern about this car is how it performs in the winter.
