QUICK MOD TO A UBERTI 1862 POCKET NAVY
MY UBERTI 1862 POCKET NAVE HAD A FEW ISSUES WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW. TO CORRECT THIS I HAVE ARLEADY REPLACED THE STOCK NIPPLES( OR CONES AS THEY WERE CALLED I NTHE OLD WEST) WITH TRESCO REPLACEMENTS FROM TAYLORS AND COMPANY. THIS CURE MUCH OF THE CAPJAM ISSUE AS LESS GAS PRESSURE WAS ALLOWED TO ESCAPE THRU THE NIPPLE BACK TOWARDS THE HAMMER UPON FIRING. IN THIS VIDEO I TRY A LITTLE MOD TO CHANGE THE PLACEMENT OF THE MAINSPRING TO INCREASE THE PRESSURE ON THE HAMMER AND TO HOPEFULY KEEP MORE OF THE GASSES OUT OF THE ACTION UPON FIRING. THANK YOU FOR WATCHING

Love the smell of Black Powder! 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
Blackie, Great Video and Outstanding Information, Thanks for Sharing your Time and knowledge and wisdom.
You always give experienced. Advise. Thanks!
I wound up adding a second spring and trescos to my 1849 due to the same issue. Rarely shoot the thing. May have to try this on it see if it'd be enough... Thanks Blackie.
The pocket models are sweet little firearms Blackie. Thanks A lot and Happy New Year! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
I agree totally. The original springs were definitely heavier. Why not make a heavier spring ? I have made 8-10 from 1095 spring steel 1/8” thick. Taper thickness and width seems more like original colt springs.
Good advice. Great video.
THANK YOU! SIR! I "LIKE IT!" I may try this on ever one? ONE First! this Sounds totally Logical, and on point Mechanically.
Thanks Blackie, good information! Many Blessings! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
SWEET!
Damn good knowledge to know for my dragoon if its needed, as I've already replaced my main spring before. An I'm sure there not all the same poundage from the factory, or replacements either. Thx for the vid Blackie
Thin peace of leather between spring and frame. ...THIN.
Good information, thanks

hay earl, I'm just east of you in Schenectady County! small world! Anyway, I think the slick shots are made of stainless so they change the look. I think Tresco makes them out of steel so the look is the same?

Ok my friend
Great job Blackie, good to know. I know you're a very busy man with a lot on your plate. I have a question I hope you can reply. I'm just getting back in to black powder revolvers after over 30 yrs ago. I just got a new revolver and can't wait to take it to the range. I've heard that it's good to remove all the factory oil that comes on the new gun before your first time shooting it and that would decrease the amount of fouling and getting it gummed up. Do you do that with a new revolver? and what do you use to do it? or is there one of your videos you can refer to me? I've watched a lot of your videos but there are so many. Thanks.
Just add a second spring on top of the one there. Done
👍🏻🔥
Didn't they used to use a little piece of leather pressed between the spring and where the screw went?
That does it!
Don't use CCI magnum caps, those are for the Lymans Great Plain rifle.
Ile would both and use a di-electric spacer to prevent electrolysis. The only main spring breaking I have had was due to electrolysis.

having Much OJT with cathodic reactions. The main spring will always touch the brass frame, and that brass frame will always touch steel frame. I suspect your failure was more an environment, alloy, QC, or lube issue.

Thank you

Hey Blackie, great channel! Any chance you comment on the truth or myth about hand pressing a cap on a black powder revolver cylinder? It's been said that you can set the cap off pressing to hard? Also what about if you store away separately, a loaded 1858 Remington cylinder with caps on it. Can it be set off when you need to do a speed load for home defense?

some caps are a bit sensitive and if the nipple is sort of fat it can be hard to force it down and seat ,,Elmer Keith spoke in his book SIXGUNS of a cap popping and leaving a blood blister on his thumb . /as to the rem capped cyl.. any sharp blow into the cap will cause it to go off so if you fumble the reload and drop it on to say gravel like at outdoor shooting ranges ir might go off facing up at you
With the pocket models, Uberti is a bit sloppy with their tolerances.
Has your loading lever retainer ever broke loose on your remington 1858 or is yours dove tailed?

Great video, Blackie. What is causing my 1860 Pietta Colt army from latching into full cock?? It latches in half cock but not full. Thanks for any advice.

Fixed it. The pin that holds in the main spring roller at the bottom of the hammer had drifted out slightly not allowing the hammer to go only between half and full cock.
