The mainspring is 2-3x as strong on my original 1849 pocket than on the repros. Has the original nipples so caps don’t fit that well. BUT it doesn’t get blowback and it doesn’t suck caps. Only time I get cap jams is if one splits just right. Strong mainsprings are a must.

I enjoy your videos and have learned a lot more about black powder revolvers. I have a 1858 Remington and a 1860 RG Pioneer arms revolver. The problem I'm having is the 1860 at half cock the cylinder is not spinning but locks up. I have taking it apart trying to figure out what the problem is everything locks ok nothing is broken theirs only a few parts and I didn't thing it would be to difficult to fix it. I don't want to buy another one if I can fix this because the year it was made was 1976 the year I turned 16 sorta a sentimental value I guess you could say. If you have a suggestion how I can repair it I would appreciate it. Thank you.

If you have arthritis, you might want to look into taking a half teaspoon of nutmeg in warm water - it works wonders within an hour@@blackoracle69

Also, use slix shot nipples. I used them with great success, in addition, smoothing the face of the hammer also helps.

Hi Blackie I have a ASM Colt 1851 Navy .44 Cal Black Powder Revolver that was made in 1993 im trying to find what amount of powder i should use and if i should even fire it which is what lead me to your videos in the first place by looking up how to tell if the frame was strecthed as far as i can tell its not what would you recommend i use load wise? i have Hodgdon Pyrodex Powder Pistol powder thanks

So i have an infinitely stupid question. Brass frame 1851 navy, with a taylor cartridge converter using cowboy action loads, think it would work? Now i won't be out anything. I have a frame I'm repairing just for my own education, (loose arbor) a bunch of spare parts and barrel, but no cylinder other than the cartridge conversion. Enough to make something that can throw lead.

Hey blackie Question how would I get a black powder shotgun to touch off every time? Checked the nipples all clear, popped off caps to make sure. Cap blow apart but never touches off. Have to charge the nipple to get it to fire what would you recommend to do to it. Should I get a nipple with a bigger hole in it to get more fire in barrel?

You want the lube to pick up the fouling so it comes out easily later, is that right? Would you get a Lemat revolver if they made a god replica? They're pretty wild. 4.something pounds, nine shot plus an underbarrel 20 gauge.

thats correct by using a heavy lube down bore to begin the bore does not form a hard fouling ( stays soft) plus when you do go to clean it just wipes 90% out on the first few patches

So jealous of your #10 Remington. I can only get #10 cci and #11 Remingtons

I've always put bore butter over every loaded chamber, are you saying that its a waste of time an material to do that. The thought process is that every chamber has a lubed bullet going down the bore, an each shot seasons the bore under firing. I agree it mite make less fouling by not lubing each chamber, just the way I was taught back in the 70's, an have always done it, don't mean its the only way to do it tho ? Thx for the vid Blackie

i was taught the same way ..but over time i noticed that the over the ball lube was just being blown out by the gases of shooting but if i lubed the bore first it keeps the fouling soft and its a lot less messy

another plus from changing the stock nipples less chance of a chainfire when i first got it with the stock i was fullly expecting one each time i shot

ok i began with a empty chamber i volume measured 20 grains of 3 F goex powder.. i poured the powder charge into the chamber then i tapped my knuckle of my hand against the chamber to settle the powder .. a .375 home cast round ball ( lee mold ) was placed sprue cut on top.. into the chamber with the powder i just poured.. then the cyl was rotated under the rammer i fully rammed until the stopped solid ( thats to show the powder and ball as compressed together to be sure no air space was left) i repeated the process untill all chambers were thus loaded.. next withthe muzzle pointing in a safe direction i applied #10 remington caps to the nipples being sure to press them on firmly with my thumb.. i then stepped up to fire position and shot hope this helps you

p.s. before i began loading i used a brass brush that fits the bore to apply a coating of my gunbutter to the bore to keep fouling soft and prevent a hard cake of fouling to form in the barrel and neg effect accuracy
