UBERTI 1862 POCKET NAVY IS IT FIXED

MY NEW UBERTI POCKET NAVY , it had some cap jam issues in this video i will talk of how i fixed the problem thanks for watching
it is a well made gun. it does have a issue and that issue is a problem with the nipples or cones as they were called in the 1800's. I recent bought this revolver to try out in my percussion revolver series and because i have wanted one since at least the 1970's. the gun groups very well out of the box with a nice playing card size group at 10yrds. the problem was with every shot the cap would be driven under the hammer and cause a cap jam. with close inspection i found the issue the opening the nipples is much larger than it needs to be. in fact it is so large that back pressure is causing the hammer it lift up and allow the spent cap to be forced under the hammer causing a cap jam.
in a future video i will show how i fix this issue thanks for watching

I got 600 fps with triple7 and 130 grain conical, filling the chambers as full as I could get them and still seat the bullet. It is deer season and I had a gutted buck hanging in a tree to test the revolver's power. 600 fps was enough to completely penetrate the bucks chest hitting ribs on both sides. I recently purchased a pietta 1851 Navy and a huberti pocket navy. I didn't know what to expect out of a 36 caliber. Much to my surprise it hits hard. If a person could place their shot accurately I have no doubt that a 36 revolver would cleanly take a deer. I can see why wild bill carried a pair of 51 navys. If you can shoot them they'll get the job done. Edit: I only chronographed that one single shot. Apparently that shot was misread because I since have fired several more shots through my pocket navy over my chronograph and they were all traveling faster than 600 fps. Around 900 fps.

I installed slixshot cones and filed the sharp edges of the hammer face on my pocket police. With 25 grains of Pyrodex P and an 80 grain .380 round ball I got an average velocity of 823 feet per second on the chronograph. When cocking the hammer for the next shot I angle the gun to the side and snap the hammer into full cock with a bit of force. The spent caps just fall off to the side. If I don’t pay attention to snapping out the spent cap it will tend to jam, but I want to attribute that to the overpowered load I’m using.

Blackie, a 10 grain charge in a 36 caliber cap n ball even with a conical is a low charge weight. 15 grains of fffg with said conical or 17-19 grains fffg with a round ball is the service charge. Your 10 grain load is more in keeping with the 31 cal pistols.

I had always shot round balls in my 1861 .36 Navy. Got the Eras Gone Colt conical. The blowback is so severe it actually blows the hammer back to safety notch. Must get the Treso or Slix Shot nipples. PS I live in Springfield MO, there's a brass plate in the street where Wild Bill stood. The courthouse is gone. Davis Tutt did about as well as you did on that playing card. However, some speculate Wild Bill used a .44 Dragoon and not his signature Navies at that time. July 1865.
