Hi... thanks for tutorial. It was great.. I got more value out of the wet doilies and thick lace. I sqeezed them out then opened them up neatly. Then put copy paper on top of wet doily and pressed with fingers and I got a beautiful relief pattern on copy paper. Cheers thanks from Australia. Deb

Hi, I've thought about this for making sprays but never to dye my fabrics. Thank you, this is so much cheaper and a lot less effort involved like boiling onion skins, I'm not lazy but there's much more interesting things to do ! I'm very lucky to have been given loads of mica powders and I'm going to give them a try too. I've only just found you here, im subscribing now !! Thanks, x

I have a lot of those Walmart paints and never thought about using them to color anything but paper. Very informative tutorial. I have used the shimmer to make my own glimmer mist but never thought about just easily adding it into paint water. Brilliant idea. On a fixed income I am always looking for ways to save money. And saving the paint water in the water bottles is genius. 😁😀

Thank you! I too enjoy using some of my home grown botanicals to dye papers; roses, hibiscus, turmeric etc. I just don’t want anyone thinking that they have to go out and buy them for that sole purpose.💜

Hi Catherine, not sure exactly what you’re referring to as it’s been a while since I made the video but if it’s not the Tim Holtz distress sprays that you are referring to then it is just the acrylic paint put in spray bottles purchased from Amazon...?
Omgosh, you are a life savor. I have a top that I love but is just a bit to short, it’s in the orange family and has been impossible to match with any ready made trims. I did not want to keep buying dyes and white trim hoping for a match. I can now purchase a more expensive trim I love knowing I can inexpensively keep mixing until I’m happy with a match. I can’t thank you enough for this.

This is a fantastic idea to use paint. I bet it makes a more permanent dye than the water-based sprays. Is it ever stiff on the fabric or lace?
@ClimmiesCreations
5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, it can be. Just add more water to your paint wash if this is the case. The ratio that I used was perfect and left my fabrics soft😁.
omg! this is brilliant! thk u so much for sharing. one question: when they dry r ur pieces hard? or “crunchy?” i don’t suppose it would matter, just curious. i will definitely b doing this!
@ClimmiesCreations
5 жыл бұрын
If you find that’s it’s too hard/crunchy just add more water to your mix.
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing. I'm gonna have to give this a try. Also I saw the water bottle says ozark on it I think. You in Missouri? If so, me too! :)
OMGosh...this is Awesome!! I am so thankful I found you! I stumbled onto your page while searching for raised motifs on junk journals! Thank you for all your awesome tutorials! I am going to make a wedding album for my daughter's wedding and these tutorials are going to make it even more special! I do have a question though...is this method colorfast or would I need to add something to keep the color from bleeding onto anything else? I purchased extra Chantilly lace when we purchased her wedding dress and I plan to add it throughout her wedding album ❤

You are so welcome! I am glad that you are enjoying the tutorials. I have not had any issues with color bleeding once the material has dried. But, if I were dealing with something so precious as your daughter’s wedding journal I would err on the cautious side. You can do a sample test first. And of course do not wet or allow the the material to get wet whilst in the journal. Lol It sounds like your daughter’s journal is going to be stunning!

I save avocado skins and then never do anything with them. Just too much trouble. This is THE best idea for fabric and paper! Thanks so much. Oh, wait! what about eco dying?? Love the results, but no way am I going to wrap and boil for hours. Any ideas? Thanks again.
Do you find that the color from the paint bleeds into other fabrics at all? Have you tried any fixative on the dyed products afterward?
@ClimmiesCreations
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Casey, I have not had any issues with the colors bleeding so far. Once they dry they’re set. Now while they were wet they would of course so you can use a fixative if you’d like but I only use mine once they’ve dried so I’ve had no need for one.
How do you set the colour so it dosn’t rub off when you use it. Most dye systems require some kind of a id and heat setting. I just want to due cheesecloth for my spirit dolls so looking for a simple system that dosn’t leach later.

Hi Sharon, I still have the fabrics that I dyed from way back then, some in journals and the color is still the same as it was when I did this video a few years ago. I do understand your concern Howe and took the time to look this up for you: Thoroughly clean a large mixing bowl or cleaning bucket, and then fill it with one gallon of fresh, clean water. Add one-fourth cup table salt and one cup vinegar. The vinegar and salt work together to naturally lock the color into the fabric. Hope that this helps☺️
Gloves will be ok to use. Is paints Acrylics or something else?
@ClimmiesCreations

Yes, Acrylics (Written in on thumbnail)! gloves will be nice to use 😆!
Do you wash the fabric afterwards?

No, I do not. They are still holding wonderfully 3 years later.
Where do you get your seam binding?

Items such as this I tend to buy in bulk. In this particular case it’s been a few years since I have had to purchase any so I cannot remember exactly where. I looked online and zipperstop.com and Etsy had good prices.

Hi, I'm sorry, I'm italian so I'm not familiar with those specific paints and I don't think you said what kind of Paint they are. Are they acrylics or fabric paints or something else? Beautiful tecnique by the way 😊😊

Are the they acrylic
@ClimmiesCreations

Yes, they are
I like the idea, however, the colour will not enter the fibres unless a fabric medium is used and therefore it is not permanent.

Hi Adele, I’m not sure exactly when I made this video but surely it was over two years ago. The pieces that were dyed are still holding on to their beautiful color. In fact they were used in one of my latest creations. I may have even pulled the bag out that I store them in. Now, I have not nor would not intentionally dipped one of my journals in water to test and see if the color will hold as that would no doubt ruin not only the lace/fabric etc. but also the journal. So for this crafting purpose it works just fine. Now if you want to use it otherwise say for clothing to wear and such other niceties if you add in the extra step and cost of adding fabric medium you would still come out cheaper. Also, there is a cheap option for diy color stay I found with a quick google search that calls for vinegar (most of us already have), glycerin (can get cheaply) and water...we should all have and SHOULD be FREE in my opinion. Also, I found a bottle of Rit color stay on Amazon for $5. See, I am all about solutions (righteous solutions not wicked ones) and helping each other. It makes for a better world. 😊 Thank you for watching
