I think the "imperfect" papers are absolutely gorgeous! The imperfections give it character and truly make it 1 of a kind

Try to put the folded placemat between two pieces of cardboard and weigh them down with books...
Never made it to the shop?! lol they are gorgeous ma’am! The imperfections are what make them gorgeous!
If you watch what messy papers other youtubers create, you would be so proud of yours! They're supposed to have imperfections to look more rustic. ❤

Wow I read the comments before watching, and just 50 seconds in and I agree with all of them. I can’t believe these are ‘seconds’, I’d consider them firsts! I love the variation in the tones

Beautiful. I love the “seconds” as much or more. Thank you. ❤️ Shirley
Personally, I love the flaws, otherwise I'd buy a printed piece of perfection.

Exactly....i would prefer imperfections too. And I just saw an easy way to make a stack at one time, super pretty and not perfect, ideal for homemade journals and art journals too.

I love the flaws!!! Awesome tutorial!!!
I LOVE flawed papers!! These are gorgeous!
Very good explanation! Tips of what not to buy were very useful!! Thanks!
Thanks for showing us how to use the lace and for sharing your experiences! I am going to have to try this!
This is the best tutorial on the matter I have ever seen and the most brilliant results! Thank you so much for your perfectionism, your precision and your generosity.
I would try those light weight mats under the paper and see if you get a neat textured papee for backgrounds.
Love your papers!!!!!!
The ones you find fault with look fantastic 💜😊
I love the imperfections.
The ones you dont work, put your coffee in a spray bottle and spray over it, it will give you a stencil like image. Can't hurt to try. Love your lace paper
Omg!! I’m in love 😍 your died paper is so beautiful!! Thank you for sharing, can’t wait to try.
What a great tutorial! Thank you for sharing your method! And your papers are stunning!
Thank you for sharing your process and tips! I'm going to try this but wanted to make sure I do it right!
Great tutorial. I will definitely have to try this technique.
Thank you, a fun video. Blessings.
I was trying to coffee dye with a thin plastic lace tablecloth that I’d started to cut up and was not getting good results. When I followed your method and used the helpful tips I got great results. As I continue to cut up the tablecloth, I’ll definitely avoid including areas with folds. Rubbing in those extra spoonfuls of coffee made a huge difference. Thanks!
The paper is beautiful!!!
thank you so much for sharing how you do your coffee dying.
Thank you! Great video!!
AWESOME papers Thank you for showing :)
Beautiful Papers
I love the imperfects!!
Thank you for sharing your tips! 😁💜👍🏻
Thanks, looks so pretty, will give that a try. Blessings.
YAY!! Thank you so much for doing this tutorial! I have all the supplies and giving this a try TODAY! I'll let you know how I do! 👏❤

I am absolutely in love with this. wow.
Thanks so much for this share, I have been waiting forever for someone to share the secret, although I have experimented. I had a chuckle about what not to do because I have been there too. You answered a few questions I was wondering about so much appreciated. Take Care and find reasons to smile Hugs and Smiles
Would love them. New to junk journals....love it!
THANK YOU so so much for this video!!! I have been coffee/tea dying for awhile and trying different techniques. This! I was finally able to get the results I wanted after watching this video and following you instructions!!

Thank you for sharing. I have just started to get into doing different types of paper dying. This will be fun to try 😃
Love the flaws! :) thanks for the video.
I love the imperfections makes it awesome like any lace that has been bleached by the sun or left in antique suitcases makes it look aged. Love it
I’m not glad you spilled the coffee-but it’s so relatable! That’s exactly what would happen to me if I were to film myself except my shirt and shoes and floor would be dyed as well.
Loved the video. I was never successful at doing this so I am totally going to try your way. I got all my doilies from Diaso. They have a lot of different kinds. They also have table clothes that you could share with a friend.
Thanks for this I have tried it with not great results but I’ll try your method!!
Great video! Thanks!
Great tutorial! (I like the flawed ones just as much.)
Hi I just wanted to stop by and say thanks for this video, it was sent to me by Tracy from one of the Facebook groups after she had posted a picture of some staining she did after watching your video. I immediately came and watched your video a few times. However I didn’t have any placemats to try this out. But luckily I’ve managed to source some and since yesterday I’ve been experimenting and trying it out. Although I’m not getting perfect results mine are more grungy I’m really happy with what I’ve managed to get. Thanks so much for sharing this tutorial. And now I’m hooked 🙈 i need to find more pretty doilies now.

Cool love them
Wonderful tips and hints! I’ve tried my hand at this a few times. A BIG mess, that’s all I can say. Thank you!
These are beautiful even with flaws 😍👍
Parabéns! Fantástico! Belíssimo trabalho. Muito obrigado por compartilhar.
Thankyou for sharing love your papers Hugs Bonnie
Intresting to learn.
Thank you so much for sharing xx
The flaws is what makes it beautiful.
I was watching your tutorial the other night and I had a plastic table cloth that also had wrinkles I ironed the wrinkles between two pieces of paper after I cut it in pieces it ironed right out hope this helps thanks for sharing your tutorial

Nice! Thank you for sharing this tip. Take care!
The lightweight placemats that dont work for cofee dying can be stencils
I think the loose weave ones, not suitable for coffee dye purposes, would actually work great with the gelli plate. TYFS, great video.
I declare I love thoes flaws lol so obviously hand made such antiquity
They are pretty. You could sell them cheap if they have flaws. To me it’s the process that makes fun.
Beautiful! Would have liked to see a follow-up as part of this video to see the “reveal” of what you did (the magic moment of peeling back the placemat lol). But your tips are very helpful! I tried the weighing down thing too...not a good idea 😮TYFS! NEW SUBBIE HERE MICHIGAN USA ❤️🦋💜

You're that would have been a great idea! Thank you for your comments. (I love Michigan!)
Also, my placemats also came folded I just put a piece of cloth over them and gently ironed out the creases it didn’t damage them as I was gently ironing and then removing quickly and checking till I got the creases out. It got them out real quick. At first I doubled the fabric but after I tried without doubling worked fine both ways.

This is what I was going to suggest. I've put a wet cloth between the iron and placemats. Loved the video!
I love the flaws only because I would cut them out and paste them into my scrapbook. I like to do vintage scrapbooking
Thank you do much for this tutorial. Your paper is beautiful. I'd put your "seconds" sheet in your shop at a discount, because they have so many uses, like backings on tags, and you can even print on them. I can't write in a straight line to save my life, so I made a template of double spaced lines for the papers I use to journal, and can change the color depending on the pattern. You also could probably print an image and keep.they pattern on the page, just make it print at like 60 to 70 % less saturation. I have a Microsoft computer so Apple I'm sure has the same or better. You also could use your seconds to create envelopes. Your work is lovely. Again, thanks so much. I ordered a plastic tablecloth from Amazon, to do this. Which is probably why your video populated, and they're supposed to deliver today. Best regards, Patricia

I just watched a stencilling video and the i structor said because of her astigmatism she couldn't draw a straight line. I have the same problem even though I wear glasses. I cannot even write a list of numbers when I play cards----they veer to the left. Now I know why I have so much trouble doing a straight line. Maybe a lot of people with astigmatism have the same issue.
There's a japanese word that translates to something like, "the appreciation of an object's imperfection". I think that view has made me more willing to re-use and repurpose things that are imperfect.
Very good results! But your 'seconds' look better than my 'firsts' !!!

Thanks for the tutorial! Would this work just as well with cloth lace??
I love lacy coffee dyed paper, especially the imperfect ones. I wonder if applying the second layer of coffee with a wide paint brush would work? I might give it a try. Something I’ve had great success with is spritzing on Ritz dye over the top of the plastic doilies. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

If you place them between 3 or so tea towel top & bottom & iron them they will straighten also if you use spray bottle & spray over the top of open dollies it will work wonders 👋💜✌️
Thank you 😊
Oh they are so pretty flaws and all. I like the flaws and am going to try this. Thank you for showing us this. lean on God

Love these. Espically the round one. It took my breath away. I've done some lace paper, but not as pretty as these !! Can't you just put a piece if clear packing tape on the ripp to seal it ?
Good info. Have you tried putting that folded placemat in really hot water, then lay flat and put something heavy on top? (Maybe a baking pan with books inside it?) We use tea and 2 large tables covered in flannel backed plastic tablecloths, then we use a fan but blow the fan above the table, so it circulates the air above and around the papers. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, several people mentioned that. I thought the papers I showed initially were good examples, but you're right, I should have showed the results of the actual tutorial papers. I will have to do that next time!
@ideastimestwo, thank you yo mich so much for this video, this is exactly the design I need! This is awesome. Concerning the lace you use. I assume a sturdy crochet/knitted/woven lace out of line fabrics ea like you can find in a Thrift store won't work, because it sucks up the coffee and the coffee will sip right through, right? Thanks for answering.

Hi Bettina, you are right! You have to use the plastic kind. I wish I could tell you differently... That would be so much easier to find. Check antique shops. Ebay and Etsy. I hope you can find some! Thank you so much for your comments.
I put my plastic doilies in the dryer on low for just a short bit. It helps them lay completely flat and gets the folds out.
@ideastimestwo3522

Good idea! Thank you!
I use a few layers of paper towels on top of a cutting mat on top of my canvas drop cloth table cover.
you can place your hand on the doily and paper, does it still feel cold? its probably still wet. I never thought of cold being a signal for wetness, but in a fabric watercolor class i taught years ago, a woman said, 'oh, mine is still really cold so i think its too wet'. I had to think about that, and i went to look at her fabric, and it was too wet, she was testing it with her full open hand on it, so i tried that too. Yep it was very very cold!
Tape the plastic to the table so the wrinkles can be smoothed or pulled out and it won't move again while you're working. Maybe a spray bottle from the Dollar store would be a great way to get the first initial layer of coffee on the doily.
Fantastic video. Thank you for all your tips. I would love to buy your beautiful coffee died papers as as a Digital paper. Would you consider making them digital?

Brilliant tutorial! Thanks so much for sharing your secret💗 I have a question, do you wash the dollies in between dying sessions?
@ideastimestwo3522

I usually don't since they are always used for the same purpose. Thank you, Carey!
On the folded placemat-- have you tried just pressure- like heavy books- leave it for maybe a week? It may take the fold right now-- it obviously is like that because it was maybe new old stock or stored that way-- so it would make sense pressure is the way to take it out... I wish you luck- weird that it wouldn't just come out with heat since it is plastic.
Great video, thanks for sharing. Have you tried using coffee in a spray bottle with those thicker doilies that you said don’t really work well? It would be like using a stencil. Just a thought. Cheers , Jacquie

These are wonderful! When you are staining, do you do multiple layers at a time or just the one? If multiple, curious of the drying time
@ideastimestwo3522

Hi, Susan. It's only one layer at a time. I've never tried multiple layers so not sure how that would work. It may be interesting! I should try that just for fun and see what happens!
Try using a shower curtain, super cheap and does the job great to protect your table x

Oh ...thank you.. Best wishes...❤️❤️
just found this you tube today. i suppose someone has already told you this, but you can set your plastic dooiles and heavy plastic flat in the hot sun till it gets good and warm and smooth with your hand..
Have you tried a warm or hot setting on a blow dryer for the folds in the plastic?
@ideastimestwo3522

Yes, I tried everything. It could be I'm just afraid of ruining it! I need to try again. Thank you!
Hi take your plastic tablecloth and throw it in the dryer and as soon as it gets warm pull it out and lay it flat quick works well with 2 people
Have you tried the Tim Holz distress ink pads on the lacy doilies that don't work well with the coffee. The ink is drier so less likely to bleed under the thin lace strands. If that doesn't work, sprays or spray paint might.
@ideastimestwo3522
3 жыл бұрын
I will experiment. Thank you. I've tried distress ink on the other doilies, but not the thinner, stiffer ones. It's worth a try!
