Quick and easy way to remove the coconut meat from the shell

I never saw this method of removing the meat from the shell in English before so I decided to double in English my video that is in Portuguese. I hope everything is clear if not just ask and I will answer.
1º step - Remove the water
2º step - Heat up the shell
3º step - break the coconut shell (hit with a hammer gently until it cracks of) please use a baking gloves after removing the coconut from fire.
4º step - enjoy

This is the most amazingly easy way to break a coconut. I tried this and it worked so well that I was so awe struck for a day :D and my mom wants to make sure that I thank you for this great idea. We don't even need a hammer, we can hit the heated coconut with another coconut and the shell so easily cracks. Thanks a Ton!

I love this guy! I went looking for this video only, because he's so calm and real, whereas other videos are too excited and over the top. I added this video to my "saved" list. Now my daughter and I are going to open up the coconut. Thank you for showing us how to open a coconut!!

I'm sure you know the freezing method but this is actually a great primitive method. If I ever end up shipwrecked, I can cook one in a fire, bang on a rock with it and eat the meat easily. The TV show Survivor, they eat allot of coconuts and I haven't seen one episode where they use this method rather than a knife. Nice video!

I tried this method and works like a charm!!! Only instead of hanging the coconut over the fire i put it right on the stove and rotated every ten seconds. it was hot but i can hold onto it then pop the meat cracked the shell open. i was able to get 5 big chucks as a whole in 5min instead of 45min last time with a knife. Thank you for the tip!

Be careful when opening the shell with your hands. When I was like 14, I was opening a coconut (first time ever) and trying to pull apart the two halves with my hands and BAM! Sliced through my middle finger tip. I should have gotten stitches but knew I probably wouldn't be allowed to play in my football game that weekend if I had stitches, so I didn't get them lol, good memory

Lived around coconut trees for 20 years -never knew this trick to get the water by accessing one of the 3 eyes. where i lived a tree climber would come and harvest the coconuts and will pluck some that are prime with lot of water with a soft meat so never had to learn this trick. Good idea and Thanks!!

Heat changed the taste in my try. Also after heating it required me to hit for half an hour. Maybe I should have hit harder but you said gently. Well, it also depends on the freshness, ripeness...etc.of the coconut. So I wonder that can I understand from the outlook of the coconut whether it would crack easily or not when buying...

Hi , there is a minute smal technique to open the coconut the beautiful way. The right eye which gives water is the bigger one. Look for the two similar looking eyes, and the one which is just opposite or the odd one is the correct hole which gives water. Pour out water from that. Now to break open, look for the edge which is just opp the similar eyes. Hold it in your left palm with the eyes near to the thumb and hit it one shot exactly on the edge and the coconut breaks it neat two halves. Scrap the coconut for the flesh inside. There it’s. Practice by watching the shapes of the coconut

I find the best way to get into the coconut is to use a cork screw, wind that thing in there then just pull it out and you have hole just the right size to pour out the water, I always use a cork screw for this, the trouble is in the UK we don't get fresh coconuts they are pretty stale most of the time.

Mayconn Garcia Yep that's absolutely correct the coconuts in London are generally terrible these days, I recall though when I was a kid coconuts used to be much better sweeter juicier fresher. Today it's like the coconuts take a refrigerated detour around the world before it gets here. Even the ones that are supposed to be young and fresh tend to be stale. It could well be due to where they come from. In the old days they came mostly from the west indies I think no one else really bothered with them, even the bananas seemed nicer. There is a definite lack of taste compared to how they used to be.

There is the 2 eyes and the mouth. The eyes are close together, the mouth has slightly different and usually in the middle of the 2 eyes. Through the middle of the eyes you can bang the coconut and it will break, or you can go 1/2 way from where the eyes are to the center of the coconut and bang there for the coconut to open up from the other way: going around the coconut. You don't have to heat the coconut!

There is no advantage to trying to keep the inner core intact, as it needs to be cut into pieces once it has been liberated. I throw my coconuts with great force onto a concrete pad in back of my house, and it breaks quite easily. I then use a spoon to separate the meat from the shell. Sometimes I reheat the shell on the fire, which causes the meat to shrink away from the shell, making the process so much easier. I then use a potato peeler to remove the brown skin, and presto, pure white coconut meat!
