Easiest way to Open a Coconut - All 3 Types

The easiest way to open the young Thai coconut, is to use the tool called a cocojack. I also show how to open a coconut with a knife.
Many people confuse coconut water with coconut milk. Coconut milk is water combined and blended with the coconut meat. Coconut milk is higher in healthy fats, protein, fiber, and calories but it’s also like a meal as opposed to a drink.

How to open a mature coconut:
To open the mature coconut you need to find the eye that has the thin skin. If you look at the three holes - 2 of them looks like eyes and 1 looks like a mouth. The mouth is the weaker one. You can open this with any knife, after that drain the water inside. Next you can easily crack it in half by hammering down the middle of the vein.
Then in order to separate the meat from the shell warm it up for about 15 TO 20 minutes at 350-400 degrees Fahrenheit (about 200 Celsius)
Take it out with a towel or glove, let it cool and after 15 minutes, hit it all around the sides with a hammer or back of a big knife and then crack it open. You can use a knife to easily separate it from the shell.
You can use a peeler to peal this outer skin or just eat it. this is all very healthy.
This is the meat that we use to make coconut milk and coconut chips.
How to open a Caribbean style green coconut
You can use a large sharp knife like a cleaver or a machete, but if you don’t have one of those just knock off the top with any knife. Then make a hole with an ice pic and pour out the water. To make it easy you can get this tool which is like a corkscrew and just put it in and twist it around and pull out the top allowing you to get to the meat.
I’ll have a link where you can get these organic online as well as the tool in the blog associated with this video
These ones have some meat in them as well and you can easily open them up since they are soft using a big knife starting from the top and cutting your way down.

Great video - thank you! I'm preparing to do a 7 day coconut water fast and have plenty of delicious coconuts on the island I live on, but sometimes I run into a certain type of coconut that wasn't covered in this video. Do you know an easy way (without a machete or ax) to de-husk the green coconuts that contain the nut inside? I can crack open the nut itself once I have access to it, but I'm sick of bothering my partner to de-husk them for me first. I really want to learn how to do it on my own before I start this fast, without fearing the loss of my fingers or hands! Thank you!!

If not using a knife you have to have a too like a screwdriver to get past the green part to open it up and wedge it off.
