Kyushu mifune in Judo was said by many to have invented the triangle choke, or sangaku jime. This was probably around the 20s or 30s. It’s pretty unbelievable, but he was a true genius in the art of Judo

Kyuzo Mifune may have popularised it but I doubt he invented it. Strangulations are as old as the hills. Pankration had probably has many versions of strangulation as there is today.

The speed at which Judo moves is not based on the rules of competition. It is based on the rules of ending a fight as fast as possible and using maximum efficiency with minimal effort. That’s what the Ippon represents. The knockout. The sword slice. That’s one of the things that make Judo so exciting. Even if your winning with 6 seconds to go you better stay sharp and not relax because you still get caught and lose. That’s why also judo has points for cowardice. You are forced into an extremely intense millisecond battle.

I see where you're coming from but the speed of ne waza is a direct consequence of the limited time you get to grapple on the floor

@@urbansamurai261 True but it could also been seen that the rule set is designed to mimic the need for expedient finish hence the rules being designed specifically to mimic battle and the need to finish ASAP. With the most minimal exertion of energy. The rules come after the arts initial use of the technique.
