i think those controllers will also shine when it comes to games where you need to throw stuff it will let you move your hand farther for a more immersive throwing feel, like when you are throwing knives, grenades, or maybe even lifting enemies over your head to later then throw into another enemy or when you want to swing your sword over your head or starting from your back stuff like that.

I'm not too sure what the Quest Pro controllers are really doing, but knowing they require much more bandwidth (Uses wifi direct), they might be sharing play space data with headset to try to calibrate and figure out where they are by figuring out the similarities between the points they are getting in the world. I'm not sure if we can replicate this functionality but it might mean that if we do get these working, you would definitely need to keep messing with OpenVR SpaceCalibrator and you might encounter some really bad drift.

Sadly that will never happen because they still need to be seen the headset to align their tracking with the headset tracking. If you really want to use them with your Reverb G2, you will also need a Quest 2/Pro headset.

@@Nicalay2 yeah I got the quest 2 no reverb g2. Actually I've been thinking about what pc only headset I could get eventually, I think the pimax Chrystal might work since it has its own inside out tracking. Who knows it might also be able to align the quest pro controllers.

Agree with you on trying to get them on the charger. It's such a stupid design they did there. Also agree about how long it took them to update once they were paired. Hope future updates don't take that long. As for whether they are worth it, I think they are 100% worth it, especially for games where the controllers will be out of sight or games where they come very close together and the tracking ring could either hit the other ring or hit a part of the other controller. For you, pool, and for me these games: 2MD Football, Thrill of the Fight, Real VR Fishing, Golf +, Gun Club VR, both bowling games, Racket Nx, In Death Unchained, Synth Riders. Just to name some I have where these show a clear improvement. There's others. The improvement in 2MD Football is massive if one is used to throwing a football in real life. Before, I would often have to do a weird throw where I kept the controller always sort of in front of me because if I went through a regular throwing motion which I am simply programmed to do from the amount of real football throwing I have done, ball would often not go where it should since the controller would often be out of sight before bringing it forward to release and this would cause the guesstimate the Quest does to figure out where the controller is and this would often be wrong. With these, it goes exactly where I am throwing to unless I mess up when I let go of the trigger button to release it. It's night and day better and more accurate. Even for games where the tracking won't be changed or the rings won't come into play , I still think they're better to use because they feel better and have the superior haptics. I really like the added weight they have, the fact it is better balanced, and I like that the top button pad area is angled slightly different from the grip/body section which to me feels more ergonomic. If you put it beside one of the Q2 controllers you will see how it is angled differently. The actual angle part for where you rest your thumb is nice as well. It's interesting you said in most games you didn't know you were using different controllers where for me, I know they are different in every game. And this is weird but it's like my thumb can sense there is no tracking ring around it as it just feels open so to speak, and that is even if I am not moving my thumb around. I often do move my thumb around when it is not in use and not touching the side of a piece of plastic is welcome. Heck, I often have my thumb half hanging half off the top pad now when it's not in use. I think everyone that can afford these and uses their headset on a regular basis should get them.

Really good points. There is an improvement with games that require you to use your hands to the side of or in back of your headset. I think over the passed 2 years I have gotten used to changing my behaviors so that my hands are more in front of the headset so it is harder for me to realize the improvements since I am unconsciously avoiding putting my hands out of site of the head set. If I gave a person new to the quest 2 the original quest 2 controllers and then the quest pro controllers I am sure the difference would be night and day. However its much more likely that someone who already has sunken 100s of hours in to their quest 2 will probably consider purchasing the quest pro controllers. They are likely to have the same biases I have because of the behavioral conditioning I stated above. At the cost of $300, almost as much (and in my case as much) as the cost of the headset, the improvements just aren't "wow" enough to really be super excided about them (and I have been waiting to get these when the leaks started). In addition, the quest 3 release is likely less than 12 months away, and although I don't think it is likely the quest 3 will come out with controllers with the quest pro kind of tracking; the improvements on the new headset will probably be worth saving the $300 for. I really like your enthusiasm about these controllers! They are a cool piece of tech and for people with the extra cash laying around it could be a worth while buy!

@@ZorgyBabyVR I got my q2 in October so newish user. You are right it’s night and day for me. Especially thrill of the fight, blades and sorcery, and contractors. I actually hated blades and sorcery before this, and had to adjust how I throw body shots in thrill of the fight now I can throw and swing more naturally!

@Bruce Barry Yes been using them theyre good for golf+ and a little more accurate. But my wife who was a pro Golfer still gets a slice on her drives with the Pro Controllers just like she did with the Quest 2 Controllers. She does a full swing at full pro speed and for some reason with the Quest Pro controllers still causes the heavy slice for pro golfers. As i dont do a full swing and dont swing as fast as her I get nice straight drives with my new Quest Pro controllers. Just got to make sure you clear your Guardian History once a week or the Quest Pro Controllers spaz out a bit.

Well worth the money. Only play population one. Great feel. Can build with hands behind back.

I play VR in a room with a really big windo/ door thing cause the room I’m in for all gaming stuff used to be a garage so they replaced the garage door with a glass window that sides out to become the back door so i would have tracking issues sounds perfect to me

the biggest benifit for me is that I dont have to deal with the halo on the quest 2 controllers which I think is bulky and unnessacry weight but in a way I also like the halo because I play gorilla tag and smacking things is vey common and the halo kind of protects me from hurting myself

Thats actually the reason i dont like them, I grip the controllers differently making use of the halo because its better for a few games but this removes that option

Can we have same games to go with our vr hardware? Meta built a platform squashed competition and then released 2 games.

I just ordered them. Hopefully it will make a difference for me when I play fps games.

Nice! the tracking is definitely better for reloading when not looking at your ammo pack or if you need to grab a gun on your back!

You are so under rated

I couldn't play VTOL VR with my Reverb G2 because I couldn't move the engine power lever with my right hand while looking around the cockpit due to the tracking blind spot, plus couldnt use bows in other games, throwing grenades was also substandard, etc etc. And the lighthouses aren't cheap either in the Valve ecosystem, so I'd say these are absolutely worth it.

Have you tried the Pro Controllers since the last firmware update? I have had 2 additional Pro Controller firmware update's (plus the first out of box update) to date since I got my Pro controllers. I use a infrared flood lite in my play space as that radically improves both the headset and controller. I also run an external battery on my headset... with that being noted, I see a huge improvement in RecRoom playing PaintBall; however, I haven't bothered yet to try them with other apps yet. When I don't use either IR-flood-lite or the external-battery there is a small degree of performance change now that I did not notice before. One of the last 2 headset updates also have done something as the head set now runs the external batter down faster than before, I suspect the headset operates more aggressive when connected to external power sources. Would be interesting to know if the firmware updates are making a noticeable improvement for your usage.

I am on 1.20.0 firmware right now, I have been mostly playing VRChat, I haven't noticed a change in tracking since I first got them. That is a really good idea IR flood light! I have always been aware of them but since my room was lit enough for the headset I never really bothered to try one. But with the pro controllers being kind of iffy with precise tracking maybe the IR flood light will help with it? I think I may pick one up. Thank you!

maybe they could try a hybrid system, where the controllers still have outside-in, but have tracking rings so the headset can see them too

Yeah that would probably be the most accurate way of doing it. I don't really mind the tracking ring but it does get in the way a little. Maybe just some small trackers on the controllers with out making a large ring?

The controllers work well for beat saber as well

The tracking rings are our issue. Someone is always hitting something. But smaller than the hand is better.

they're REALLY good controllers, I've been impressed by them. The only reason why I'm returning them is so I can buy the new discounted QuestPro bundle for $999.

They are AMVR Headphones. They are about 34 USD, not the greatest quality in the world but definitely and improvement over the integrated speakers. I actually stopped using the pro controllers months ago because of an update making PCVR wireless streaming shutter. But during the time I was using them them that slight drift never really got fixed, it really wasn't that noticeable when you are not looking for it. At this point, unless you have a strong reason to want to track behind your back and have 300 bucks to burn, I would not recommend them.

It seems like the tracking is better then it was when they first came out but still have a little drift. It doesn't impact game play but its there if you look for it.

I don't want the Quest Pro, the Quest 3 is more powerful and has better passthrough, but they made the controllers worse. So I got pair of these to use with my 2 until the 3 comes out. I've slowly realized that I had adapted the line-of-sight tracking limitation of the ring controllers, it took a while to break free of that. You're right in that it feels very similar to just using the ring controllers, but you WILL notice the difference when you switch back.

Technically, it's possible, I haven't tried it, but you need a quest headset to get the controllers to work with other headsets. And how you get it working is really convoluted, so not exactly plug and play.

What about those faulty analog sticks everyone I've talked to ingame talks about controller drift problem with there quest 2 controller's

I have had that problem with the stock quest 2 controllers too. it happened to me after a 100 hours or more of play time. I haven't had an issue with the pro controllers yet but they do look like they have the same control stick mechanism so I assume it will probably have the same issues. Control sticks pretty much suck these days. index controllers, switch controllers quest controllers all use the same kind of control stick and they all drift after so much use.

you need to play games like beat saber to really notice the diffience, and a quest 3 or quest pro, the quest 2 these controllers aren't alot better, but its a slight improvement on the quest 2.

No matter what position i put the controllers in or how much i try i cannot get the orange light to show on them when charging so i have 0 clue if they really are charging. I tested the compact charger to see if it worked and it charged my headset funnily and even showed the orange light, but the quest pro controller for some ungodly reason do not show the charging orange light and i just dont know why or what im doing wrong. beginning to feel like i just got robbed

Ordered & returned mine. They do not track properly, your irl hands are always off by a few inches

you need to always play VR in a well lit room or you will get tracking issues.

For those thinking of getting the Quest Pro controllers read this first. The tracking is better on the Quest Pro controllers when out of sight of the headset but worse when in sight of the headset. Why are they worse in sight, because the Pro controllers to save battery keep doing micro sleeps so the controllers keep jumping around a few inches when you go to do something that requires great accuracy it is very noticeable. Until this is fixed in the software the pro controllers are actually a downgrade for playing most games. This is a known issue at Meta and is hopefully solved quickly.

they've improved the tracking a lot since launch. v50 controller tracking is smooth as butter, superior to my old 3-sensor CV1 setup.

One thing though. When you accidentally smack them together you lose tracking for a second

Pool Parlor v3 by metaphia, they have the best pool table in my opinion, and there are always people there willing to play!

It comes with a brick for usb c.

everytime i turn my quest 2 in stand-by-mode and come back later after a few minutes, the pro controllers are somehow not in VR but they're still paired. Also there is this notivication popping up that says my pro controllers lost their tracking. and it seem like the only thing that helps is to restart the headset which is very frustrating. Does anyone have that issue too?

I hope it's just a early software bug that they will fix in the future.. with time they improve things Aside that this new technique to track the controllers is difficult, like he mentioned "close to objects" but when i do that with the quest itself (I've done tests) it doesn't track any different

The short answer Yes they do! They have capacitive buttons so if you rest your finger on on of the buttons, triggers, thumb stick it will show it in game. (If that game supports it)

As @Zorgy Baby said above me, you can just play hand tracking games in the meantime! I mean, many games support hand tracking at this point! Like, lots! When my controller broke, I had to send it to Meta to get a replacement. In the meantime, I played hand tracking games and really fell in love with hand tracking. Even VRCHAT supports hand tracking now!!

Tracking is hit or miss, like they can track behind your back but they also wobble a little, especially when you first turn them on. Today I had a tough time selecting buttons in virtual desktop because the controllers kept moving up and down. I like the design, they are pretty standard controllers and take up as little space as they need to.

That is kinda true. But I really question why if the controllers are more expensive if you aren't guaranteed to have a better experience with tracking. It is understandable for them to mess up when the controllers are behind your back tho

They are worth the $300 the chips in them themselves are $50 each.

@@ZorgyBabyVR They are 4 quest 2 controllers but they are way more durable the tracking is butter smooth once you calibrate it (by putting in figure 8 motions for 10 seconds) they feel great and the vibrations are so sharp that in my opinion the extra cost is worth it.

It's kind of lame that you call out what seem like issues with the controllers, but then later comment that it was actually your user error. We're seriously supposed to believe you didn't realize there was a charging block inside the box even though it's printed on the side of the box, not to mention that it's clearly visible in your video when you introduce the charging dock. And you were surprised the the sleeve was hard to get off the box? The sleeve on the Quest 2 is much tighter at any rate. Why is this even that part of a review? I do agree that the pro controllers are not a necessity, and they do provide advantages in certain instances, like when holding them close to the face. I tell people if they've got $300 burning a hole in their pocket and want slightly improved performance, then go for it.

Its definitely unnerving seeing how these controllers drift from one another when I placed them next to each other for the first time! In general for me they work just fine during normal use, what did you find that you found not worth the switch?

@@ZorgyBabyVR Everytime I've used them they just constantly change positions and lose tracking. It always happens without fail.

@@aloox395 I have been getting the "Room is too dark" notification using these controllers. I have been turning more lights on when using them. but yeah that is pretty annoying.

@@ZorgyBabyVR I haven't actually gotten notifications like that. So I don't understand what the hell is making them lose tracking. That just further solidifies my distaste for the pro controllers honestly. It's crazy to me.

@@aloox395 I have the same problem as you the offset of them is crazy, these controllers are very sensitive to light differences, it's annoying but when you get the lighting just right it works very good

No one cares cause it’s not a giveaway
