Stop Using Your Link Cable Wrong... (Oculus Quest 2)
In Todays video I am exposing how various Oculus Quest & Quest 2 accessories are deceptive in their reviews on Amazon. I also showcase some very important tips for new Link Cable users to help get the most out of your cable by increasing resolution, refresh rate, bitrate, and how to disable the USB power settings that are blocking maximum power.

My channel is about VR Content (obviously lol) I've covered many topics on this channel in the past such as PC Building, PC Gaming Knowledge, Gaming News. That can be CPM rates, Industry knowledge, Business knowledge, how to edit, how to build a gaming PC, budget or not. But VR is cooler so I'm probably gonna keep doing that.
I'm like the monkey you send into space for tests. I just come back with the results and give them to you for FREE.

I've been fighting with all these settings for days. It really makes the Quest2 feel like a beta product when you have settings scattered between the Oculus Debug too, The Oculus App (on your phone), the Oculus app(PC), the Oculus App(In VR), SteamVR, the App's VR Settings, Link Cable Settings. Will look into the Kiwi cable. I've noticed that they seem to have a good rep across the board. :)

for realz. they way they portray the cable as if its proprietary. Its just a usb c cable. I have plenty lying around. Including one thats 15 feet long. I'll be using that for now but will likely be purchasing a Kiwi. I've been eyeing their products on Amazon and am fond of their grip covers and straps. Seems they are becoming a trusted brand. That said Im very intrigued by the KKCOBVR Q2 Adjustable Head Strap. It has replaceable 18650 batteries. I like this feature because one can keep charged batteries on standby when the installed pair run out making extended sessions more obtainable. And accepting replaceable batteries will insure in theory long use of a product vs a proprietary battery that could decrease its charge over time.

The only thing that nobody seems to take into account when talking about the headstrap is laying down and watching a video is one of the greatest things and the stock headstrap is so good for this. What is USB Selective Suspend? ... “The USB selective suspend feature allows the hub driver to suspend an individual port without affecting the operation of the other ports on the hub. Selective suspension of USB devices is especially useful in portable computers, since it helps conserve battery power. It has 0 effect on an active USB port and how it works. Edit* Tried adjusting what was shown in this video by upping the default encoding bit rate and setting the the curvature to low, but I ran into what I can only describe as audio tearing.. so I reset the debug back to its defaults and set to 90hz at mid 1.1 render scaling in app and called it a day. Maybe I did something wrong, but performance feels very acceptable now. Setup: rtx3070, R7 3800x, 16gb. Summary, can't wait until high quality zero lag wireless VR becomes a norm lol

Pixels per display pixel override is super sampling, which is totally different than what your graphics slider does in the main Oculus app. The graphics slider allows you to use a lower resolution than your LCD panels use. All the way to the right is using the full resolution, and to the left is lower than that. Even 3090's have trouble with full resolution, I find it best to let the app set this, or only bump it up a couple notches, for best performance. Then set the pixels per display pixel override to 1.2 or 1.3 at the most, to sharpen up your image. The Encode Resolution Width is the same thing as your graphics slider in the main app, and doesn't do anything now that we have the graphics slider. Leave this at 0. You got the other two settings right.

I decided to go with the Oculus cable. saved me from all of the BS and drama. sure, I paid waaaay too much but it was worth it. had mine set up in no time and it made flying in IL-2 sims as real than all of the various head-tracking gizmo's that I have bought over the years FOR LESS. oh, watching movies in a home theater setting, never mind the VR stuff, is nice. 64GB with cable cost me $375, and it was the best $375 I have spent in a while. next up, DCS+MSFS2020. maybe even Falcon BMS?

It is generally agreed upon within the IT sector, that updating Drivers for the sake of updating, is almost never the right way to go. If your system is working the way it should, do not update drivers. The only drivers you should be updating "regularly" is graphics/GPU ones. Other then that, you should only update them when you have a noticeable issue that an update is known to fix/alleviate. I loved the video, great tips. But you should not tell people to just update drivers willy nilly. If your system is working, don't just go through device manager updating things, you have a chance of actually making things worse, and a close to nil chance of making things better.

Might want to warn folks some of these tips are outdated. A lot of issues with Airlink are due to people tweaking their settings in the diagnostic tool. Furthermore many of the tweaks previously needed in the diag tool are now properly managed in settings. Specifically the bitrate setting should no longer be manually manipulated as that has been shown to cause issues with Airlink. Set it to zero. Similarly use settings to tweak resolution.

The way to make sure you get steady regulated power to your equipment is to use a back up power supply. It takes the wall current and voltage, and makes sure your system has a steady buffered (safe) power stream. It also makes sure that in the event of a power outage or glitch, you equipment is not damaged.

Pro tip to include in a future video? Get a magnetic data and charging cable, Make sure to get/recommend one that does actually do data Qualcom 3.0 protocol (I think needed). Basically they have a tiny USB-C (others too) connector that goes in normally and its magnetic, The cable end also has a magnetic bit and you just need to get them near each other an POP charging and data.. The IMPORTANT and PRO TIP is this will help some people avoid breaking the port, as any excess strain on the magnetic couplings means it unplugs rather than potentially damaging your charging/data port..... Sure someone else has said this before but they are very nice for pretty much anything that needs/uses usb-c, micro usb, and even shitty proprietary Iphone/apple interfaces.
