    I couldn't play VTOL VR with my Reverb G2 because I couldn't move the engine power lever with my right hand while looking around the cockpit due to the tracking blind spot, plus couldnt use bows in other games, throwing grenades was also substandard, etc etc. And the lighthouses aren't cheap either in the Valve ecosystem, so I'd say these are absolutely worth it.

    notepad++ is also excellent if you don't want to go get visual studio tbh. it comes with every language under the sun plus you can easily install plugins for any languages you want to add. something i have NEVER understood between this and java is this whole public / private class stuff. i have never been able to find a plain English description of what a "class" even is (it doesn't seem to be the same as a lua or lsl function, and it seems "function" as a term also has a completely different definition here maybe???), what public vs private means and how it effects anything within those classes nor any straightforward examples to help me understand the concept. until i can get an explanation of *that*, i don't think i can wrap my head around any of these languages that use them. it's just throwing a bunch of jargon that i don't know what it does at me and expecting me to just follow along. what does any of this sh*t mean???

    Technically, it's possible, I haven't tried it, but you need a quest headset to get the controllers to work with other headsets. And how you get it working is really convoluted, so not exactly plug and play.

    Instead of all those ifs, you can actually toggle it and set the bool in a single line... I mainly just used this tutorial to learn how to use udon sharp real quickly... Here's my mirror button class... using UdonSharp; using UnityEngine; using VRC.SDKBase; using VRC.Udon; public class MirrorButton : UdonSharpBehaviour { public GameObject mirror; private bool _enabled = false; public override void Interact() { mirror.SetActive(_enabled = !_enabled); } }

    Absolutely! There are many ways to do it! I chose to use the If statement way for people who have never done any coding, I feel like it is a little easier to understand for the beginner. If you watch 12:18 to the very end of the video show a 3rd way of doing this same thing, many ways to skin a cat haha. glad you could use the video to familiarize your self with udon!

    @@ZorgyBabyVR I can't find a scripting reference for it... I pretty much refuse to use the graph. Also, I've made the bool public so I can have a trigger collider that when the player walks through it, it shuts the mirror off for them. That way mirrors shut off when you live the room it's in so they don't cause performance issues. Took a while without a reference manual to figure out to even use the OnPlayerTriggerEnter event, which I got from a video showing how to do it in a graph... and took a while to figure out the event has VRCPlayerApi as an argument... I don't suppose you know of a reference manual anywhere?

    @@BerryTheBnnuy this is the Udon sharp documentation udonsharp.docs.vrchat.com/events I am not a fan of the graph either. You probably have a reason to use the collider to turn the mirror off, I prefer to use the update loop to check how far is the player and then have the mirror turn off when the player is to far away. I use it in the Summer House world if you care to check it out.

  • @BerryTheBnnuy
    @BerryTheBnnuy8 ай бұрын

    @@ZorgyBabyVR Well I figure a collider isn't running code every frame, which is why I don't use update. Also I've got a pair of mirrors in fairly close proximity to each other and I want them to turn off when you approach the area that has the other. I've got the colliders for it hidden in dog legs so you can't see either area the mirror is in by the time you trigger it being shut off. If you want to check out the world I'm working on, it's Tatooine Starport, by Berry Bnuuy. The mirrors are in the ship that you can board once you leave the starport. It's a work in progress. Less than a week old, and it's my first world, so I've got some issues I'm trying to work out. Like I'm having trouble getting the seats to not put your butt inside of them. And there's some sounds but they don't play except in the Unity editor... can't seem to find any tutorials on using the VRC spatialized sound component properly.

    I actually stopped using the pro controllers months ago because of an update making PCVR wireless streaming shutter. But during the time I was using them them that slight drift never really got fixed, it really wasn't that noticeable when you are not looking for it. At this point, unless you have a strong reason to want to track behind your back and have 300 bucks to burn, I would not recommend them.

    I don't want the Quest Pro, the Quest 3 is more powerful and has better passthrough, but they made the controllers worse. So I got pair of these to use with my 2 until the 3 comes out. I've slowly realized that I had adapted the line-of-sight tracking limitation of the ring controllers, it took a while to break free of that. You're right in that it feels very similar to just using the ring controllers, but you WILL notice the difference when you switch back.

    For the MirrorStuff going into the OnDeserialization, you can just have it set superHotMirror.SetActive(mirrorIsOn) instead of having an if statement! EDIT: And in the MirrorStuff itself, set the mirror to !mirrorIsOn and then set mirrorIsOn to !mirrorIsOn afterwards to just make it a more concise toggle :3

    Hey, Zorgy, great tutorial! I just had one question. At the very end you mention RequestSerialization() working with Manual syncing --however, you didn't add it into your script. I was under the impression that only RequestionSerialization could only update information in Manual Syncing mode. Does OnDeserialization() work by itself in Manual Syncing mode too? I was thinking OnDeserialization() would have to be called by RequestSerialization(), but that seems silly now. Once again, thanks for the great video! 💚

  • @ZorgyBabyVR
    @ZorgyBabyVR Жыл бұрын

    You are 100% correct, what a major detail I glazed over. Yes in Manuel Update you need RequestSerialization(); in the Start() method. You will have to add re-add the Start() method. The continuous update method does not need the RequestSerialization();, since OnDeserializaton() is called every network. Thanks for pointing that out!

    I am not clear as you want you want to accomplish but if you wanted to, lets say toggle a mirror on and at the same time set some fireworks off, you could accomplish that 1 of 2 ways. One: make a new method like the MirrorStuff() method but for the fireworks effect and then add a new SendCustomNetworkEvent under the first one on line 17. So when a player clicks the button the mirror turns on with the first network event and then the fireworks are set off with the second net work event. Two: you could make the new "FireWorks()" method as above but instead off adding a second custom network event, you could add the statement FireWorks(); inside of the MirrorStuff() method. This will start the Fireworks when MirrorStuff() is called by the SendCustomNetworkEvent. Hope I didnt just go in the wrong direction here! Let me know.

  • @ZorgyBabyVR
    @ZorgyBabyVR Жыл бұрын

    @@DragonFang17 In general, you want the Owner of the object to handle syncing all the variables. For example player 3 scores a goal and the score needs to go up. I would SendCustomNetworkEvent to Owner instead of All, (NetworkEventTarget.Owner), The owner would then make the change in the score on the [UdonSynced] variable for score and then tell other players to update their scores with RequestSerialization() in a NetworkEvent to all. I am sure there are more advanced ways to handle this but I know just enough to be dangerous, so I don't know much more then the basics.

    Have you tried the Pro Controllers since the last firmware update? I have had 2 additional Pro Controller firmware update's (plus the first out of box update) to date since I got my Pro controllers. I use a infrared flood lite in my play space as that radically improves both the headset and controller. I also run an external battery on my headset... with that being noted, I see a huge improvement in RecRoom playing PaintBall; however, I haven't bothered yet to try them with other apps yet. When I don't use either IR-flood-lite or the external-battery there is a small degree of performance change now that I did not notice before. One of the last 2 headset updates also have done something as the head set now runs the external batter down faster than before, I suspect the headset operates more aggressive when connected to external power sources. Would be interesting to know if the firmware updates are making a noticeable improvement for your usage.
