►In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to Della Brown by Queensrÿche off of their Empire album. (released 1990). In June 1991, Chris DeGarmo told Music Express this was "A song about a woman who bought the advertisement that looks are what's most important and never really worked to develop the inner character."

►A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician, on the road at age 17-19, then went part-time ever since, holding 'day-careers' like chef (red seal papers), spiritual health care while raising a family. As a producer I've made hundreds of my own songs for media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, playing International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I like to explore grunge, pop rock and alternative, alt-folk / acoustic fingerstyle guitar, ambient electronic and classical as well. Recently i 'discovered' shoegaze and lo-fi. I have a home studio that is ramping up for lots more music so stay tuned.

I think this is the first time I have ever heard Geoff Tate's vocals be described as 'Nondiscript'

This song was 1990, and one of the only songs I've heard from Queensryche that sounded kind of bluesy. Well done, but not one of my favorites. I think its just that the melody doesn't quite grab me, but the musicianship , vocals, and lyrics are, as always, too notch! You can always count on QR to give you sonic variety and little unexpected rhythm and note changes. My favorite albums from original lineup QR are the EP and first 5 LP's. Promised Land has good songs, as usual, but its lyrical contents are, overall, a little bit depressing. STILL, they are the most amazing band I've ever had the pleasure of hearing and seeing live! No, definitely not hair metal! My understanding of hair metal is that those bands don't have much going for them except for their hair. Not the case with Queensryche! The vocalist, GEOFF TATE is very recognizable once you hear a few of their more typical hard hitting songs. But Geoff is a unicorn because he can sing ANYTHING, and does it well! He belts like no body's business, had a 4octave range in his prime, can sing hard, soft, nuanced, intense, you name it. I hope you listen to more by them! Such as: ALL of "Operation Mindcrime", a highly acclaimed concept album telling one long story told in flashback. VERY well done! Have headphones on and lyric sleeve in front of you! I enjoyed your comments and observations! I hope you'll do more QR songs! Check out: "Take Hold of the Flame" LIVE in Tokyo 1984. Geoff hits 3 E5's, and he doesn't scream them, he sings them. "Anybody Listening" "Walk in the Shadows" "Another Rainy Night" "The Thin Line" "Jet City Woman" "The Whisper" And of course ALL if Mindcrime, in sequence. Just to get you started. You won't be sorry!

Promised Land is a pretty decent album. They never recaptured the magic of Mindcrime and Empire, IMO…and once Chris DeGarmo left the band, it was never as good.
