This song may not be the first one that comes to mind when Queen is mentioned but I'd say it's one of the best examples of Brian May's extraordinary gifts as a musician and songwriter. Even more poignant when you know that he was having a conflict with his father at the time. Amazing that fifty years later he and Roger Taylor are still playing and not just to their original fans but the grandchildren of the those fans as well.

@@neul4139 In interviews Dr. May said that his father thought he was wasting his intelligence and education pursuing a career in music. Not a proper job. Dad also thought it immoral that Brian and Chrissy were living together out of wedlock. Old dogs, new tricks. Late 60s, then the 70s the world his parents grew up in was being turned on it's ear. They didn't speak for about a year. But thankfully they made up in New York in '78. Dad said he finally 'got it'.

Saw Queen in February 1975 in a theater that only seated 2000. My friend and I had 3rd row center seats. To experience Queen at this time in their career ..... I will never forget it.

Beatles are the most groundbraking and influential band ever. period. But Queen took their path and made everything next level, recordings, mixings, composing, arranging, playing, etc. IMHO No other popular artist reached their level of musicality and variety (thats why there are no tipical Queen campfire beginner guitar songs).

OMG, it was 50 years ago!

Queen at their very best. Freddie's voice is superb, John,Brian and Roger show what a tight threesome they were. I love the first four album's, but Queen ll is still my fave. Yes, Queen had the majority of their pop hit's in the 1980's, but in my opinion, this is their most important and interesting stage of their career.

I saw them in Cardiff in 1975 on the Night At The Opera Tour. Queued overnight and got middle of front row tickets. It's a gig I'll never forget. This was my favourite Queen era. Also saw them a year later in Cardiff Castle. It rained all day except when they came on to the roaring riff of Tie Your Mother Down....Wasn't fussed on the more commercial stuff they released in the eighties though.

I know, although I've listened to the second and first albums so many times, for some reason I didn't even pay attention to some of the songs. I mean, I like the albums (it's strange that not many fans have listened to them), but these live performances open up such songs to me from a different perspective, which is why I love Queen. I don't even know how many of my favorite songs have become new among the hundreds of times I've listened to the discography of the "old" Queen albums (from 1973 to 1978, although I've heard their hits from other albums, I haven't gotten around to it yet, to listen to those albums from the 80s to 90s in full)

Freddie always said if they exactly replicated the album live, what's the point of people going to show? There are many live versions that I'd say were superior to the studio version. Find the live version of White Queen at the Hammersmith for one of the best piano/guitar duets ever recorded. Their 80s stuff is all a lot rockier live as well!
