Quebec Run Wild Area

The Quebec Run Wild Area is located along the eastern slope of Chestnut Ridge, in Fayette County. The general public can use this area for hiking, hunting, fishing, and the pursuit of peace and solitude. The wild area offers over 21 miles of well-maintained trails which offer hikers numerous loop hike options for day hiking or backpacking. The terrain is very mild with minimal elevation gain and loss which makes this a nice area for newer hikers. There is plentiful camping and water sources in the Quebec Run Wild Area. The gorgeous streams, thick rhododendron, and open timber make this area a prime hiking destination.

Nice trip for an overnight and a good animal encounter. I never heard of this area before I'll have to check it out on a future trip.

My first backpacking experiences were in the Quebec Run Wild area. A lot of great memories from there and I’ve probably stayed at every campsite you came across! A great area for starting out backpacking! Thanks for taking me back!

Just yesterday I was thinking that we haven't seen a Vista Ventures video in a while. Looks like a great trip, and a bear sighting is always a plus!

Great to see that you made it down to SWPA! I've done many overnights and day hikes in Quebec Run. As you know, there's not a lot of mileage, but it more than makes up in natural beauty, especially the streams. Best part is, there usually aren't a lot of people there through the week - weekends get a little crowded along Mill Run. To my mind, the best campsites are along the Rankin Trail. If you've never done the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, this might serve as an appetizer. The LHHT is a bit rockier with more ups and downs, but much the same vibe.

Yeah this was my first hike in that area. I definitely don't regret going. A superb spot for someone starting out. Dave and I hiked the LHHT several years ago pre-KZread. Happy hiking!

Nice hike! I’ve never heard of this area. The intersections looked pretty well marked. I’ll have to checking out.

Thanks Dan! I stumbled onto it in Jeff Mitchell's book Backpacking Pennsylvania. An awesome day hiking spot or location for someone's first overnight.

Thanks for the informative video. My friend Chris and I have talked about checking out this area for several years but were never sure about the options for camping, especially with hammocks. I think you covered that aspect quite well. I took all your GPS data and marked all the parking and campsites in my Gaia app on my phone. I'm thinking this one may happen the end of June. Thanks again !!

I’m wanting to take a trip there in a couple weeks. Mid August 2022. Is there cell phone service?

I can't recall if I had cell reception or not but it's fairly remote so I'd say it will be spotty at best. Enjoy your hike!
