Tiadaghton Trail and Mid State Trail Loop
The Tiadaghton and MST loop is a 23 mile loop that encircles the villages of Ramsey and Waterville in Tiadaghton State Forest along Route 44. The Tiadaghton is blazed with yellow blazes and the Mid State is marked with orange blazes. This loop is just south of the Black Forest Trail and serves as a great conditioning test for hikers who might not be ready to bite off a 42 mile loop yet. This loop features several nice vistas and water was plentiful during my hike. Campsites were fairly limited though in several spots stealth camping would have been very easy with a hammock setup. There were plenty of stealth camping options on top of Huntley Mountain. This trail had several grueling ascents with the most arduous being the climb to the top of Huntley Mountain
One nice highlight of the trip is hiking through Little Pine State Park. This park offers bathrooms, reserved camping, and trash disposal. Just outside the park is the Happy Acres restaurant which was open for business during my hike. Where the Tiadaghton and MST connect just outside Ramsey, there are bathrooms and a established campsite with shelters along the Rails to Trail just before the bridge.

It's definitely a tougher loop than I gave it credit for. Would be a very enjoyable two night trip.
Caleb Hiked this loop earlier this week. Thanks for suggesting it. The wet leaves and very rocky ups and downs made it quite the challenge for this hiker toting a 25 lb pack. I believe that it's shorter version of the Black Forest that may actually be more difficult on per mile, based on the trail footing. Thanks again JT

And yet another one to add to the ever-growing list of “to-do’s”. Looks like you’ve covered a lot of the loop hikes in North-central PA and Dolly Sods. Maybe try the ANF, Raccoon Creek, Oil Creek, Quebec Run, Archers Fork(Ohio); I have a lot of stuff posted on my site for more ideas. Btw, nice temp pole fix👍

The black pipe is very likely for maple sap collection to make maple syrup.
Love this loop. I prefer to park at the Waterville parking area and start there. Good video.

@@vistaventures1343 Definitely If you're ever looking for tips or other different trips in the area feel free to message me. I'm local (live about 15-20 min away) and hike and kyack up Pine Creek often. I do a lot on the midstate trail south of there too. There's tons of lesser known trails in the area that are great.

That’s actually Little Pine creek that you followed to Little Pine State Park.
Im slowly chipping away at sections of the MST and looks like this is gonna be a spring trip for me. I’ll probably make it a two night trek just for fun. Thanks again, Caleb!

Yeah this loop would be a good one to start on a Friday afternoon and then finish up Sunday morning. All those ascents back to back added up haha.
Beautiful country. The Black Forest Trail is one of my favorites. Thanks for showing this loop. Not as well known but had some good sights. Great video!

Great video! Glad you could finally get out this fall. Have you considered the Quehanna Piper Loop?

Thanks! I have considered it but there's a section of the Quehanna from about the 19-21 mile mark that I don't really enjoy. I've also been considering making up another loop along the Quehanna using the side trails.
Quehanna mate will kick your ass. They say BFT toughest in PA. Q might be just as tough.
