When I was 4, I lived in war torn Germany. One day we received a care package sent from Quakers in the US. It contained a doll, which spoke!! , flowered fabric for drapes my mom sewed the most beautiful dresses for my sister and I for and a can of ovaltine. My sister and I ate the entire can, spoon by spoon. It was so delicious. My mom was so happy. She received a pair of red high heeled sandals with a toe cut out. I ended up marrying the son of a quaker in Philadelphia many years later.

I am English, 75 years old & thinking of becoming a member of the Quakers in the future. This is a beautiful & inspiring documentary. It told me many things I did not know, especially about the Friends Ambulance Service. But this film forgets to mention those Quakers who were slave owners in the Southern States. And another film is needed to tell he story of Herbert Hoover - who was raised as a Quaker, When he was President of the US (1929-1933) he believed that the Federal Governmnet should not intervene, to counter-act the disastrous effects of the Great Crash of 1929. Thank you for this inspiring film!

I’m 47 years old and attended Friends School in Bakersfield grades K-4. I have recently been discovering that much of the person I am today, who honors peace, integrity, justice, is because of the wonderful teaching I received at that school. In the last 10 years I have been seeking God, and have been wondering why it’s so easy for me to meditate in silence and instantly connect with “the light.” It seems I have come full circle. My ancestors on my dad's side are all Quakers. I always wanted to explore more about what that meant. His generation is the last one that was raised in the Quaker church. I don't know why but neither he nor his siblings raised us cousins in the church. But obviously the influence was there because I recognized so much of my own philosophies in life which I'm sure were based on my upbringing by both parents but I can see now where many of my ethics and outlooks have come from. I plan to do more research.

There were lots of Quakers in New York State, too. I grew up on a farm on Quaker lane and my father is buried in a quaker cemetery. The last house we lived in was very old and my mother looked up on historical records and it was believed to have been used as part of the underground railroad for escaping slaves before the Civil War. The house had unique extensions build on it and was build up from literally a one room house! This was in Dutchess County.

The one thing that impressed me when my husband and I visited the Quakers meetings * this was not the one run like a regular church, but in silence and speaking only when you feel the Holy Spirit moving within to speak) and they were so social and community and even world minded. They wanted to do things and reach out to this world with justice for all people. I have a book from a gentleman who now has passed, as well as his wife, they were Quakers and such sweet people, and he and his wife lived in my area, and he wrote a book on how he would not go to war during WW 2 ( He was a conscientious objector) and the book I have, explained how much he went through and his prison life during the war. His name was Howard Moore. I was graciously given many books to help me with knowing if I should continue on as being a Quaker but yet learned much more in this vlog.. Thank you! There is not any doubt that they have contributed so much to the world.

Me too! I am not Christian because there are a few issues about Christianity that really turn me off. I like Jesus though. With the Quakers, there does seem to be a big improvement. It is so refreshing to see Christians who actually follow through the values of peace, love and charity for a change. They walk thier walk. That is a level of honesty that is very impressive. I think the biggest way for Christians to improve is to stop killing others that don't have the exact same beliefs. Quakers go beyond that and advocate peace in general. That is great too. The only time the documentary mentions Quakers killing others is the Union soldiers of the Civil War. This is a case where killing is actually justified. If anything, the Quakers probably saved countless black lives with thier support. Black lives matter, and that made the endeavor worth it.

May God forgive us for not rising above hatred and the lack of respect. I respect all colors and Jesus loves us all, because He does love all of us. Don't believe that Jesus doesn't love all equally. We're each born with gifts which He's endowed to us and we must embrace those gifts and live them out for the purpose of loving and helping mankind, one-another. I'm from Philadelphia, and my family has a rich history. My grandfather was a Quaker, and my grandmother was a runaway slave. Despite the taboo against mixed marriages during the 1800s in Philadelphia, they followed their hearts and married. This was remarkable, considering that even though Pennsylvania Quakers were heavily involved in the Underground Railroad and other anti slavery movements, many still disapproved of interracial marriages for various reasons. Some Quakers, however, practiced what they preached and defied convention for love and to make a statement. The 1800s were a tumultuous time, and I'm grateful that the Quakers played a crucial role in the Underground Railroad's success. Without their courage and conviction, the outcome might have been very different. Rip Thomas Garrett 1871

Through research of my family tree. I discovered that on my mom's side we have Quaker relatives. As I sit and listen to this I am getting so many questions answered about my faith. I became a believer in Jesus Christ when I was 18. Raised Catholic I have always had a calling from my heart to be right with God. So through my now husband excepted Christ as my savior. But I do have to say that Justice is huge to me. But I struggle with fighting for it. As a child my father was the biggest racist and I struggled with him and his attitudes and behavior. I have always seen people as the human race. Not a color or any less than me. Thank you for this. It really has helped me to know that I was prayed for and became a believer because of it.

The problem I found with Seventh Day Adventist Church is that they do not except the Book of Mormon which is another testimony of Jesus Christ. The Bible even says that later in time there would be another book written and another testimony of Jesus Christ. The Bible was written for the Jews and Gentiles of Europe while the Book of Mormon was written for the defendants of The Americas ( North America, Central America, and South America = The Americas). So if you combine both books you have the fullness of the Glory of God of all peoples which Jesus taught. You need both books and the Book of Mormon even has many identical scriptures and verse - so ask yourself why?? You would not buy a new car without an owners manual. In same way Jesus taught and had scriptures written for both sides of the world. On each side of the great sea he taught them the scriptures.

What an interesting video! Prior to watching this, I had very little knowledge of the Quakers, their history or beliefs. I wanted to learn about the Quakers because I have discovered, by a happy accident, that I am directly related to George Fox, the founder of the Religious Society of Friends. I would imagine many Quakers reading this will recognise my surname as the maiden name of George Fox's mother, Mary. In fact she was my 9th Great Grandaunt, that is, the daughter of my 10th Great Grandfather, John Lagoe, born in 1560 in Kingsbury, Warwickshire, England. In fact, I live only 25 miles from where George Fox was born, Drayton-in-the-Clay (or Fenny Drayton as it is now). I only discovered the link yesterday while researching my family tree, and I cannot express in words how it has affected me. I feel so privileged to know I am related to the mother of such a great, pious man.

Wow. I have been a fan of the Quakers for a long time, since I got motivated to go from Long Island, NY to Philadelphia to buy a Quaker book. I was transformed on my path powerfully by Buddhism and the 12 step groups, with help from Unitarian Universalism and Christian Science. I have learned even more about the Quakers and recognize them so dearly. This video warms my heart so intensely that it makes me realize I want to identify as one, here, abroad and long from the US. My grandmother had relatives who in past generations were Quaker and did help support freedom of slaves to be free through indiana, underground railroad. Some farmers I guess would have people stay at there homes until they could find a safe place to be free, thanks to God that couple who went to visit president Lincoln and did right things to abolish slavery. I guess Quaker did have good influence on the country .I hope we can continue to have this spirit of love and caring so much for each other as God is love and peace.

Being separated from my father , my mother remarried and we relocated tithe S.F. bay area. Looking back and learning what I know today I am identify myself as a quaker not in the traditional orthodox way, but in principle. War is not good for mankind and there is much Truth the comes from within. That little bit of yeast of doubt is something that all believers should do Thier best to cast away,. Trusting in gods word and doing it are two seporate things. Yahweh I pray that you will strengthen all who love your word to do your will, and to walk uprightly before you, in the name of Yeshuah Ha Mashiach I pray, amen.

They provided a lot of support to the war effort like medical support, or food for the starving etc.

Anthony, it isn't God who does quite literally everything. We must be born again through sincere repentance from our sin (forsaking them, and changing our mind to what scripture says), and faith that Jesus Christ came and paid the penalty for sin for both you, and I on that cross, and was raised again 3 days later. It's a team effort, not one side or the other doing all the work.
