QMX in a Better Light - Better Viewing and "Somewhat" Better Explanation

Ғылым және технология

My last video was more of a dash across the finish line . . . I guess my ego was trying to be the first one with the QMX on KZread. Well, it was not my best video, I was tired, it was late at night, and the video quality did not give a very good impression. Hopefully, this video does a bette job.

A very good presentation! Slow enough to allow me to grasp it all but not so slow as to be boring........JUST RIGHT! You convinced me to buy one. 73

Thanks for the tour and for taking us on the journey of building your QMX. Personally, I didn't form a bad impression of the kit with the last video; I figured you were getting those last bugs out of your build.

Thanks for watching and taking time out to comment! This is definitely a favorite. Keep your eye on the groups.io for this radio and QRP-Labs; things change for this radio. It took a while but I finally ran into the AGC issues that some talk about. Still, riding the volume is ok cuz this radio is very nice in most other ways. See you out there. Come back and tell us about your experiences with it. 73 de Bill

Hey, thanks for stopping by! I just finished my first activation with my QMX. I actually don’t think I have ever gone out with only a cw radio to do an activation. I always have ssb just in case, lol. Not today. 13 contacts on 5-7 watts. You gotta get one! See you out there. 73 de BILL

Hey! Thanks for watching, and thanks for taking time to join in on the conversation. I've been a fan of QRP-Labs for a long time. This is one of my favorite radios. I took it out right away, and over the course of four days I activated POTA parks. It receives so well; quiet and clear. I personally did not experience vasts AGC differences in cw signals. I hope you have good experiences with yours. See you out there. 73 de Bill

I have to agree with you! The QMX is a great, qrp radio. Hans does a very nice job. Thanks for taking time out to comment. I did four videos the minute I got mine, but I screwed up the audio. I've got to get out there and do them again. . . The radio was great; radio audio was clear and quiet. For me, reception with the packtenna and a collapsible pole was easy and efficient. Travel with this radio is so easy. I'll go on and on, but thanks for stopping by. See you out there. 73 de Bill

Thanks for the video! Do you know if there is going to be an SWR meter embeded into this radio?

  • @Bill-HRT

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to ask! I heard there was supposed to be SWR measuring capabilities. I am thinking it is on the board, but hasn't been disclosed via software or the manual. Like I just told another viewer, I am awaiting the publishing of the operating manual to find out more. I would guess the hardware is there, but it has to be made available in a firmware update. The firmware is so easy to update. I will let you all know what and when I find out. 73 de K0WHW Bill

@@Bill-HRT Thanks! SWR is always my default meter on any radio and I miss it so much on other small QRP rigs, such as Venus SW-3B. It is necessary for using with MLA or any manual tuner, but also for checking whether your wire isn't broken somewhere. I see that the wires tune differently each time when portable, depending on the soil, height, mountingshape, trees around, etc. It is essential to check the SWR before transmitting, especially with RIGs that don't offer much HISWR protection... I am wondering why it is so rare forthe small RIGs to have SWR meter. And very curious about this one. If the SWR meter in QMX is usable, I'll order one too!

Thanks for stopping by! Since it’s been so long since I looked in the manual and since it’s been so long since I did this video, I’m going to direct you to the groups.io page. QRPLabs@groups.io Go on over there. There a lot of people who are waaaay smarter than me regarding this radio. It is really one of my favorites, but I’m not the most knowledgeable. I’ve never used a zero beat function in this radio. I almost want to say no there isn’t but I don’t want to lead you astray. Come back and tell us all what you find. See you out there. 73 de Bill

Hey, TO! It is. It's multi-band marriage of the QCX and the QDX in the same "mini" package. CW and DIGI for now, but there's a mic on the board . . . Hans at QRP-Labs and his work are the impetus for a couple other radio designs you are already familiar with. I have been a fan since I started, and I am looking forward to good things from this new radio. Now, all I have to do is get the courage up to transmit & send some power through the finals, lol. SEND IT! Thanks for stopping by. 73 de Bill

Hey! Thanks for stopping by. It is one of the manuals . . . I don't know for sure off the top of my head, but I do know this; I fried my first one trying it. Not because it's hard, but because I carelessly touched the wrong point on the board. I am going to suggest you check the manual AND ask the question on the QRP-Labs groups.io page. It's been a little while since I messed with it, and those manuals do change after a while when people figure out new ways and new components. Here's the link I have the groups.io page: groups.io/g/QRPLabs/topics. Hope I got you going in the right direction. 73 de Bill

@@Bill-HRT Yes I understand I have three QCX Mini's and a QMX on order, Been a Ham inthuest for many years and have a goodly amount of radios, all are diffrent. But my favorite are the Mini's. By the time My QMX is put together Hans may have the AGC figured out for this unit. He works miracles you know.
