I am in Qatar, and alcohol is not prohibited in the country, but only in the stadiums, so that the fans do not lose their minds at times, knowing that the French League also prohibits alcohol inside the stadium, and not only in Qatar.

As a brazilian, beer drinker, I worked on the FIFA soccer games in 2014. FIFA got their way on passing several laws to allow alcohool in the brazilian stadiums. In Brazil we have several brawls in the stadiums after the games, so brazilian law makers used to think less alcohool less violence.

That’s fine. The issue is that they waited until 4 days before the event to basically pull the rug out from under them. Don’t say it’s ok and let everyone spend millions of dollars to plan accordingly only to make a last minute announcement saying nahhh, we’ve changed our minds. They had no intention on letting them sell alcohol and they should have led with that instead of lying to get what they wanted. And to be clear, you don’t have to deal with rainbow flags. Go the other way or do something else instead of “dealing with them”. 😂 They’re just as easy to ignore as the call to prayer was when I was in Kosovo. I couldn’t understand why it played because NO ONE paid attention to it.

I think you're over estimating how much the average western tourist brings to an economy, from my time in the Middle East and visiting Qatar, I can see that they're focused on taking more of a diplomacy role in the region, they have military bases there from multiple major nations, they've become one a world leader on interstate dispute resolution, and they have a strong focus on education and a juggernaut aviation sector. They want to build a place that is all about people coming to raise healthy families with good education and companies, rather than attracting short term tourism like Dubai.

Im sorry but this whole conversation is about how there aren't booze in Qatar, i'm from here and i've been drinking since i was in high school as a Qatari girl. Foreigners can buy booze from a shop called QDC, however you need a licences to be able to enter this shop which they don't give to Qataris, but its super easy to just ask a friend to get you ten crates of beers if thats what you want. Secondly majority of people drink here we have basically the same rules as Dubai, but they only sell them in hotels which the majority of restaurants, bars and clubs are. So i know this is all for content but at least get the facts right. They did'nt want alcohol in the stadiums cause they're probably worried about controlling fans if they get super drunk which is normal for football stadiums

They are but Qatar is not a desirable place to live based off of religion and climate. It's why more Western tech still gets most of the workforce and why companies set up base. There's no worry about safety or concern or of any future collapse. Lots of these Arab countries are dominated by the few with lots of restrictions and some of their values immediately clash with Western values, mindsets, etc. DOHA is also expensive compared to most Western places and like Schulz said, more entertainment is still majority in the West. It's hot, far away, lack of affordability, religious restrictions, etc make it not as desirable. If they ease up on a lot of these things people will move but there's a reason its population is still so small and why most expats there are only rich and not typical middle class tech workers etc.
