Bob Costas Debates Qatar World Cup Controversy With Piers Morgan

Ойын-сауық

Award-winning American sports commentator Bob Costas joins Piers Morgan Uncensored to discuss the Qatar World Cup and the controversy surrounding the tournament. They debate whether political and social activism should be involved in sports and if these debates are distracting from the enjoyment of the sport.
Piers asks Bob why countries such as Germany, UK and America feel they have a good level of morality to assess and critique the morality of Qatar and its controversial issues surrounding the World Cup when these countries have their own ethical issues.

The guest is delusional. He dismisses the invasion of Iraq as a "mistake" that isn't "fundamentally what the US is about." The owners of Qatar bought PSG and then the right to host a World Cup. After a lot of money, thousands of lives lost and several refereeing errors, the final of the tournament is decided between two selections whose main players "coincidentally" belong to... PSG. Five (5) stolen penalties for Argentina, almost all when the game was still tied (Saudi Arabia, Poland, Netherlands, Croatia and France). Lionel Messi, the FIFA protégé, scored 4 goals from penalties, all of them badly kicked, and 3 goals unmarked. When Neymar or Vini Jr. they start to dribble, then they are fouled. When the test-tube baby Messi starts scratching on the ball with his short legs, no one dares to touch the figurine. He put his hand on the ball, Maradona style, but did not receive a yellow card. He detracted from Weghorst and van Gaal, showing how false his reputation as "humble" is (they confuse a lack of personality with humility). Another coincidence: Modric was a tiger against Brazil and a little bunny against Argentina. He entered the field just to ask for an autograph. Humiliating. But then he returned to play well against Morocco. That cup felt like match wrestling. FIFA is as fake as WWE.

In Qatar, government projects are awarded to big contractors - mostly managed by foreigners. They hire workers from overseas through agencies in south East Asian countries. The agency takes fees from the companies/contractors. As a result Contractors expect the workers to not work elsewhere once the workers arrive in Qatar. The government cannot control every single recruitment happening in the private sector - which is run by foreigners themselves. For decades, workers have been coming to Qatar from south east Asia willingly (nobody forces them on planes). The workers know that conditions in their countries (and in Europe) are worse than in Qatar.

Mr. Costas, isn’t Guantanamo Bay a “definitive” violation of human rights? Isn’t the imprisonment of an individual without a trial the ultimate human rights violation? Is the USA’s unrelenting support to Israel, a country that is continuously breaking every human rights record in the book, even when the Palestinians go to international courts of law a representation of your country’s “DNA”? And the fact that you called the invasion of Iraq, a country where millions of its citizens have died and it’s repercussions are felt in the region to this day over 20 years later, as just a “mistake” is appalling. The list goes on and on. Honestly, sometimes I feel like they are intentionally blinding themselves to their own reality… But they feel like they have the right to lecture us. I would have respected him more if he just said what he really wanted to say, and it’s that the West doesn’t want an Arab, Muslim country to host the biggest sporting event in the world. Because they can’t stand the fact that a country like Qatar can actually do it and do it well.

Isn't USA more messed up in degrees? More illiteracy, lack of rights (laws exist but are not really in action), police violence, and violence in general. Qatar is by a large margin more peaceful than the USA. They got low crime rates, violent incidents, lower depression, and so forth. When I compare the two, Qatar is nearer to perfection. If reducing some rights by law leads to the majority being happier and safer, is that not worth it? Compared to the sheer damage full freedom causes in the USA? Riots being so prevalent and all? Or is the news in media all biased and false?

Embarrassing interview by Bob. Some valid points regarding Qatars HR shortcomings but the aura of superiority is suffocating. Let’s not forget the millions more HR violations by the USA in their wars, invasions and illegal occupations. In terms of domestically their crime rate is through the roof, police and prison systems are in desperate need for reform, drugs and military grade weapons rule the streets, school shooting are a normal occurrence, there is a mental Heath and suicide crisis and family values are non existent in many parts of the country. Putting parents in care homes is normal and are treated as burdens by many but God forbid a child can’t identify as a dog or go through an irreversible sex change. The USA of all countries have done nothing but spread corruption through the world in all levels of society. Pointing out these shortcomings is important but the incredible hypocrisy is mind boggling.

Bob talks about the ‘degree’ in which countries perform atrocities. So in his eyes, China, Russia and Qatar have performed atrocities to a higher degree? Sounds fair coming from an American. I would argue America historically is one of the worst nations in the world, along with Britain (I’m British). The amount of innocent lives taken from these two countries outweigh any other nation in the world. They sit on their high horses talking about morality when they’ve committed more violations than anyone else. No country is perfect. Qatar themselves have admitted they need to improve with conditions of migrant workers. They haven’t beaten around the bush and have displayed more inclusivity than many nations. I’d much rather live in a country like Qatar than the USA, where I could leave my car running on the road without a worry in the world, or I could leave my wife and daughter to travel alone without worrying about them being attacked. It’s ironic how the west attack Arabian countries on women’s rights, where in these countries, the women are safer and are less objectified. The fight against Qatar is against one thing only - the fact that it’s an Islamic country. It’s Islamic values that gives Qatar its positive values. Open your own mind and look into the teachings of Islam and how it gives rights and freedom to ALL. Also, China and Russia are by no means ideal but why does the west attack them? Because they’re a political and economic threat. There’s a pattern here. Western countries attack any country that’s a threat (in any way) to them. Typical bully, coward behaviour. Don’t believe what these crooks tell you. Use your own intellect and see for yourself.

Simple because you would have to use the same standards for all countrand if you do si then no country would be eligible to host any events starting with Europe and the whole hemmesfer unless you use the double standard that Europe and America usually use.

The question should be asked is, who gets to decide which rights are "human rights"? As it stands right now. The West is the one deciding human rights. In other words, the current human rights stipulations reflect Western values. Really, it is a form of Western ideological imperialism to force those "human rights" onto other nations. The guest ignores the fact that the US and Briton invaded multiple countries and killed over 3 million people and destroyed entrei countries. That is not a human rights issue in his eyes. However, Russia invading Ukraine is. Nice nice

In tbe middleast we have shame we don't have pride we don't go out exposing our sexuality to others. And this how we respect one another.
