Pyramid Lake NV Monster Lahontan Cutthroat Trout

Спорт

In todays video, Pyramid Lake NV Monster Lahontan Cutthroat Trout, I'm out at Pyramid Lake, or "The Mid" as some call it, searching for those legendary Lahontan Cutthroat trout. Mike from Trout Made Angler Co. is acting as our guide and takes us to some infamous spots to give us the best shot at landing one of these amazing fish. This truly was a "bucket list" trip for me and one of the most amazing fishing adventures I have ever been a part of. The Lahontan Cutthroat is the largest and most powerful variety of cutthroat and they definitely did not disappoint. This is easily the most epic video I've posted to date. Lets see how I did.

I know every time we go out, it not this way, but the reaction and emotion you showed after catching that monster is why we/I fish. Hard to explain to people who don't , but that segment of video certainly captures it ! I can only hope you have many more experiences like that in your life time, as well as all your subscribers.

Hi, Congratulations on the big fish. I'm a southern California native, but moved away 45 years ago. I was a trout fisherman back then as well. I now live off Pyramid Highway in the Reno-Sparks area and have fished Pyramid regularly for the nearly 35 years I've been here. You did well for a weekend trip! I know how big the trout were from a Southern California trout fishermen's perspective. It's just a different world at Pyramid, where the average fish is 19-20 inches, and there are many four and five pounders these days. Just thought I would let you know how big the fish are when they plant them, as I've been present on at least three different occasions when they were planted and have caught lunkers full of the planted baby Cutts. The ones I saw planted and found in the gut of a big one were probably four or five inches long. So your big fish had spent a long time in the lake, as is true with most of them. As you probably know, the fish have gotten bigger at Pyramid in the last decade, since Bob Behnke, the great fisheries biologist discovered the original Pyramid Lake strain in remote creeks near Pilot Peak, idaho. They're now called the Pilot Peak strain, but the DNA studies show they were pure descendants of the original Pyramid Lake Cutts which went extinct the in late '30s and early '40s. They re-introduced them in 2006, I believe. About 2009-2010 all of a sudden all kinds of bigger fish began showing up---many over 10 pounds. A ten pounder was a huge event back then---yes dozens were caught in the space of a season. But I now know folks who have themselves caught a dozen over 10 pounds in one day. I have had days when I've caught a couple over ten pounds. But I fished at Pyramid for more than 20 years without catching one over 10 pounds when the Summit Lake Strain was all that was available. You can read about Bob Behnke's experience with Lahontan Cutthroat in his chapter on that subject in his book entitled "About Trout." Thanks for the video, and God Bless! Jim Wallace

Nice fish! Have you considered maybe having the knucklehead with the net NOT go charging in like a ham-fisted cossack and shoving the net underwater when it's still three or four feet away thereby ensuring the fish goes on an additional panicked run. You may want to also consider NOT keeping the net in the water before it's even close or ready to net. i'm pretty sure the fish does NOT think "hey, there's a nice safe big black net to take shelter in.

Thats a very serious allegation. I have talked with the accused and he denies participating in any of that behavior. I did some of my own research and found some videos and information of the behavior your describing but nothing that implicated the accused. Further, from what I can find, enforcement action was taken by fish and game against those involved. I would sincerely appreciate further information or evidence and you can DM me anytime on my Instagram @seaspankeroutdoors. Im sure you understand that its hard for me to take your allegation seriously when its made behind the cover of an alias and your self described evidence is “hella people seen him”. It would help me out greatly if you could send me some evidence or put me in touch with someone that does.
