A lot of people will never have the opportunity to save 4K without having to spend it first on an emergency. PVS69s are customizable DIYs which have an analog build option. Essentially it’s a 3D printed housing unit. The designer has files/parts kits/tubes/len’s for sale. It allows the user to upgrade their NODs as they can afford it. 3D printing has come a long way, much stronger materials now. $600-$4000 for Binos. Cheap end is digital, thermal drone cameras connected to display screens (very low latency as it’s the main upgrade in comparison to all other digitals that aren’t running on light impulse wiring) High end is Brand new Gen3 WP tubes. Personally, I’m gonna save my money for a kickass Mono with a warranty. I wouldn’t call the PVS69s ‘junk’, more of a DIY/penny pincher alternative to customizable NODs. Depending on how you build them determines their use and practicality.

Currently the problem with digital is that that at true starlight conditions, they suffer a pretty steep drop in performance when compared to analog tubes. In low/near starlight conditions they still can hold their own, but analog wins in resolution and intensification

These digital display models are actually being issued to Chinese infantry troops to try and match the US’s nighttime fighting capabilities. There is noticeable delay and lag at times, as well as general Chinese-quality control issues on these sub $1,000 units from what I’ve read/seen. I personally, would not trust them for even airsoft, as one BB could likely take out my Chinese model. But if you’re not a hard-user, sure - knock yourself out. They make for GREAT children’s gifts to overcome their fear of the dark.

@@moose2934 these are definitely not being issued as the Chinese I can say the Chinese are probably making ones like this. Yes but these are way better built the lens are still glass they’re not plastic so a baby would definitely not hurt them. It would just be the housing that you would need to take care of in as long as you don’t fall which if you fall you’re gonna fuck up normal in Jesus anyway someway somehow, but either way the housing isn’t that expensive. But at least things are just as strong as anything else.

Id be curious to do this test in a dark room with nothing more than maybe the ambient light coming from under the door. digital can pretty much keep up with analog in higher light conditions, but where digital really becomes impractical is truly dark conditions with nothing but starlight, especially outside of the suburban/urban areas with light pollution.

I am a firm believer that "bad" night vision is better than no night vision. I have a set of PVS69s and recently obtained TNV/PVS-14s with an Elbit tube. The difference is awesome. Digital will never be the go-to option, but the PVS69 can't be beat for the price tag and is perfectly serviceable.

So the biggest question I have after building one with the tft 2” display is screen resolution, the tft gives you the ability to identify things to about 50 yds my days of “needing”to PID things beyond a 100 yds are long gone but if it can reach 100 yds then I’m sold, so what would you estimate range wise it’s good for?
