First real test of my Dipol D128 with 44mm XR5, Gen 2+ Tube
Out at my usual "haunt" and It's not really dark, but there's no starlight and no moonlight and thick cloud cover and the detail and definition of the Optical glass in the D128 is vastly improved over that of the Bering Optics GT-14 which imo lost out at distances over about 50m whereas this is sharp and focussed at distances up to and beyond 700m even with just the 1x objective lens.

I had an Photonis XR5 in a PVS-7 unit. I really respect Photonis tubes, and I can tell you, this XR5 isnt far off their new 4g+ plus line. What are your specs on this one? Looks super clean, mil spec all the way.

It's a 1651 FOM, 65 Resolution and 25.4 SNR. It's certainly great if there's some ambient light, but really suffers in the woods when there is zero light except for "city glow". I bought it from eBay as "new, old stock" and the seller is actually selling another one atm, I paid £900 as I bid against a lot of other people, www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285172799372 I had no idea at the time that the XR5 he was selling was a 44mm ex-KITE tube, so only fits in a select few housings.

Also, sadly the slight "blem" you see in the tube is not a traditional blem, I caused that somehow, In between trying to get it to fit into my old Dipol D121 housing and the 2 other housings I've owned since getting the tube, I created that mark as the tube was originally "blem free". So sadly that black mark is there for life as it's on the input window's surface and not inside the tube itself.

Thats a really really good buy, bargain in fact. My tube was a 66 res, 27 SNR, and was no better than yours. I paid 4.5k for mine. Luckliy ive come into the possession of a gen 3 2378 fom duel tube RNVG in WP. Otherwise id have snapped that other XR5 tube up. Really cool seeing the XR5 in action again. Totally agree with the low light comments. Although i now have the super low light performance, which is stunning, I do miss the low ebi, amazing autogating and low halo of the photonis. If i wasnt in the dark boonies, I would go XR5/4g photonis over gen 3 anyday! Even the Americans are seeing the wonders of photonis, and are now selling like hot cakes over there. You got a cracking tube there, congrats.

@@mr.not.so.perfect.666 Its nothing to worry about. I have 2 blems in zone 3 on the elbits. Nowt to worry about at all. It doesnt detract from the amazing view. Dont beat yourself up about it.
