Puppy's First Time Home Alone | Golden Retriever Puppy *sad*

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Leaving our new 8 week old golden retriever puppy home alone for the first time was not easy. He cried for eight minutes before falling asleep, only to wake up and cry more. He was given treats and toys, but it was still heartbreaking.

You can train them by leaving them for 5 mins and then coming back. It's our job to make them feel secure.....we can't be with them 24/7 for long stretches and expect them to be OK when we leave them for the first-time.

Awwweeee. Such a cute lil guy. I’ve always hear that it’s traumatizing to a dog trying to get use to crate training as a puppy because they’re already scared after being away from their mom and Siblings so the first week or 2 is hard not having them and getting use to being in there own. On the bright side once they get through it their golden and fine.

    1. never pick your puppy up and put them in a crate, lead them in the crate and stay with dem until they lay down. 2. once they are calm and laying down never talk to them or say goodbye, it should be a normal thing to leave and come without saying anything or touching them. 3. for the first time leave them alone for 2-5 mins. the next time for 10mins, maybe go take a shower or go for a walk for 15mins, ect. 4. dont call them or say their name when you arrive at home, just wait until the puppy is laying down CALM then open the crate when he is calm and then reward him and say hi. 5. leave toys in the crate, CAREFUL with small toys or toys that can brake, they could eat them and choke or hurt themselves. 6. repeat the process, also on weekend they have to learn every day to get used to staying home alone. 7. teach them to be happy and calm in the crate with „crate - training“ - give them their toys, their food and treats in the crate. The crate should be a happy place for your dog not a punishment. 8. NEVER be sad about leaving your dog or your dog crying, they can feel your energy and use this energy to manipulate you. For a dog its natural to live in a pack thats why he/she is cyring, you have to teach your dog that it is normal to be home alone too. They will understand with time and YOUR right energy that everything is OK and you will come back in a bit. Keep it up and stay healthy:) 👍

Communication is important, even if you think he can't understand you. The tone of your voice can make a difference. A warm tone signals that everything is ok, that he didn't get punished. that is important for a pack animal because the position in the pack is everything to them. ☺

That's as easy as it gets. 1st night in the crate mine barked for about 6 out of 8 hours. No whining, just 6 hours of non stop barking. Loud death barking. Lost her mind. We stopped leaving her in the crate during the day at about 6 months. Still sleeps in it at night. She prefers it.

unless you trust them enough not to eat, chew something they shouldn't, in the cage they go. Of course if you trust them enough and your doubly sure they can't harm themselves with anything around the house then they're likely to be given free rein of the house or a room when you leave. We trained our last dog to the point that when he saw we were leaving he got in the crate himself even when we trusted him enough to have free rein in the whole room he'd still prefer to sit in there, mind you we did give him a small treat as we left. Sometimes if we took too long after he realised we were leaving him he'd actually bark at us while he was in the crate, like hurry up and give me a treat, look I'm in my crate! XD

unless you think he won't chew or eat anything he shouldn't then the cage makes sense and is an actual normal thing to do for dog owners. It helps him realise that he should go in there when she leaves him alone and it makes sure he can't do any harm to himself in her house without supervision. Of course once you trust the dog enough not to eat or chew or do anything he shouldn't then he won't need to be put in there when she leaves. Having a crate for a dog is good as it gives them there own quite place as well, whenever our dog wanted to have some space and relax without interruptions he'd go into his crate himself and nap there.
