Quite a few years ago I was stopped at the Donner Summit brake check area on Westbound I-80 (mandatory safety stop for big rigs) when a CHP vehicle pulled up next to me to scope out my load (I was pulling a skateboard). When he found nothing wrong (not a real inspection, just a 'look see') he stated he "saw me move over to allow a vehicle onto the highway" at a previous entrance to I-80, and that if he saw me do that again he would ticket me for an illegal lane change as "it is the responsibility of the incoming driver to merge safely". FYI: He did the 'look see' as CHP's are absolute Nazis about load tie-downs on skateboards! With SOME of the loads I have seen tied down in Cali, this is not always a bad thing, but they sometimes/often go too far - like ticketing you for an 'improper amount of straps per ton' because they can't read the weight limit on an old strap - therefore they disqualify the strap as unsafe, and then ticket you for not having the proper amount of tie-downs! Cali makes a 'ton of money' each year from their "Commercial Enforcement Division", both the Patrol Officers and the Weigh Stations. I don't know if it is still true (I retired from driving in 2006) but every year back before then, the CED turned over excess profits to the State's Treasurer - over and above what it cost them to run the entire division! They KNOW when they ticket a big rig the Driver's are usually (over 90% of the time according to studies done) going to just pay the ticket, because it is too time consuming, and difficult to return to Cali to fight the ticket.

@@Destinationreached Been there ... done that! The second last company I worked for - Redfield Trucking, out of Forest Hill, CA - pulled structural steel joists out of Fernley, NV to the 11 western states. Many of which were very looooong! Our trailers were stretches that pulled out to 83 feet. Add on the legal overhangs (front and rear) and it was not uncommon to be well over 100 feet for just the load. We had permanent (by the year) over length vehicle permits, in NV & CA on all our trucks, but that didn't stop the harassments from CHP! With all of the new regs, and such other BS, in the last few years I am so glad I got out of the seat when I did. I still keep my ticket, but it gets harder every year you are past 70 years old to get a clean physical.

That patter is a script that is part of their little act. Phony traffic event makes contact, dog trained to alert on command creates their phony PC, and that vehicle was profiled the second they spotted him. They are trawling our highways for revenue, and don't give a flip if it is legal or not. Their false positive rate is how high? They don't care about the percentage, because it is about the revenue and not about the huge amount of mistakes this dog makes, but he is not making a mistake. He is giving them the response they want to be rewarded with a treat, and courts sit with a straight face and pretend these probable cause machines couldn't possibly be used or manipulated illegally for monetary gain. After so many false alerts it is time to put the incompetent beast down, or maybe the criminal asshole who taught that poor dog this trick in the first place. This dog and pony show has got to go. No more stupid pet tricks.

This wouldn’t have happened if he stopped the back and forth with the cops. You give your information and shut the hell up. Someone doing this much driving should have all of their information in an envelope in easy reach behind his sun visor. Everything you say can be used against you. You’re combative, you’re defensive; you’re evasive. None of that happens if you don’t talk. Sit there in an uncomfortable silence and see how quickly the cop leaves. When you engage - you get this. That dialogue is YOU extending a traffic stop on yourself.

In the end, I have zero tickets (and zero accidents) in 2 million miles of big rig driving. And state troopers have more than once told me they PROFILE every vehicle. I don’t like it either and I always hate answering there mundane questions like where are you headed or how long have you been driving a truck. Hey Paul just ran into your channel. Just a quick background on myself. I am retired military K9 police. I worked as a Kennel Master (in charge on my own police K9 section), K9 Trainer and handler for 20 years. Currently working as a K9 contractor. Just so you know a typical K9 search of a single vehicle should take no more than 1 minute at most. Any police K9 officer than is searching your vehicle for a long extended period of time of queueing the dog into a false response if the dog hasn’t already alerted. Basically if the dog has not found anything on the initial search and the handler/officer continues to search then he is trying to get the dog to sit or respond on a false alert to establish probable cause. Also, for those officers who say their dog is trained to detect drugs and explosives, that is false. K9’s are only trained to detect one or the other, but never both due to safety concerns. For example, if a dog alerts on something how would the officer know if it’s drugs or explosives. So now if the officer tries to rummage through where the dog responded thinking it was drugs when in reality it was an explosive device then BOOM, everyone is dead. Anyway, truly enjoy the content and best of luck! If you ever have any K9 related questions, feel free to ask.

Thats exactly what the Texas state trooper did in the case of Sandra Bland. It was so obvious from viewing the dashcam that the reason he didn't just let her go after the ticket was written was because he needed a decent reason to arrest her, which, by keeping her detained, lead to her getting enormously frustrated. And when she lit her cigarette in her vehicle ...well...that's all it took when he told her to put it out in his presence....she blew the FU. He baited her into a rage...it's a common practice used by police departments throughout the country. RIP Sandra Bland.

State: "I do not wish to answer any questions without an attorney present." If you say this, the police should stop ANY questioning until you have an attorney present. They cannot begin to question you again unless YOU initiate the process by agreeing to talk to them without an attorney present. This does not mean that they can sit you in a cell and ask you every hour if you are ready to talk yet, or otherwise pressure you into changing your mind. You have to make a clear and unequivocal statement asserting your rights. Asking "can I get a lawyer?" or "should I have a lawyer?" could be construed as asking a question about whether or not a lawyer is available or about the efficacy of being represented rather than actually invoking your 5th Amendment rights. Saying "I think I would like a lawyer" or "I don't think I want to talk to you anymore" are also a bit wishy-washy. Best to be clear and concise.

Also, the car is called a 'cruiser', and bananas aren't allowed in the vehicle because they are bad luck on board a ship. I was driving a U-haul on a freeway, and I noticed the lines in the road get real narrow, like you could tell it wasn't where they were supposed to be. Anything bigger than a pickup would be hanging over the line. I thought to myself, that seems kind of dangerous and I was glad I wasn't next to anyone. Not a minute later, blue lights in the mirror so I pull over. Guess what he said? He said I failed to maintain my lane, and kinda stood there waiting for me to respond with a smug look on his face. So I kinda grinned right back and asked if he meant right back there where the lanes are too narrow? I told him painting the lines like that seems dangerous and they should fix it. There were two cops, and they just looked at each other hemming and hawing and pretty quickly told me to have a nice day.
