Ingredients:
For the Caramel Syrup:
6 Tablespoons Sugar
2 Tablespoons Water
For the Custard:
4 slices of White Bread, crust removed
500 ml Milk
1 Tablespoon Custard Powder
6 Tablespoons Sugar
2 Whole Eggs
1 pinch of Salt
1 teaspoon Vanilla Essence
1 teaspoon Butter (Salted)

Very interesting recipe a hybrid cross between Flan and Bread Pudding!👍 I will mention a better way to combine the Egg mixture with the hot Milk. In the manner you show, it is possible to cook some of the egg and have hard egg lumps in it. A better way that professional chefs would do this: Take about 1/2 to 3/4 Cup of the hot milk. Slowly pour that into the eggs while whisking. Then once that is combined, pour the hot mixture into the eggs again while mixing. This is called Tempering. It brings the temperature up gradually and you won’t risk cooking your eggs. Remember the Chinese have Egg Drop Soup, where they pour eggs into hot soup. You don’t want that!

Christmas Carol's, Playing The First Noel. A glossy Caramel is sizzling, Milk, eggs and custard get a whipping. The cooked mixture is strained, Before being transferred to a mould. Definitely. I would cook it in a water bath (Bain Marie)! Probably will require 30 mins at 350F. Then leave it in the oven to continue cooking and cool for 3-4 hours

after chilling won't the caramel become hard again?

Actually no. This is the same technique as used in Mexican Flan. The Sugar, seems to absorb some of the moisture of the custard mix. See my comment regarding the addition of the eggs however!
why does the sugar harden and get stuck for me?
