I don’t get 32 an hour normally. Closer to 25 before expenses.

I dont make over $30 an hr no more. Since feb i average 20 to 25 an hr now after costs average around $17 an hr. Thats why i had to go back to being a crew.😢

It's been below $30hr since last year in the middle of the year. When the talk of the closing the loopholes bill came out. And now that it was passed earlier this year pay is getting lower. I have seen orders taking me 20km for $11 with an expected completion time 1 hour after I was offered it. That means they expect the job to take 1 hour and have valued our time at $11. So I have stopped delivering all together. And just decline hoping to reduce the desirability for order to boost other earnings on orders. At least until there are some regulations over what we should be earning.

Hi Chris, once again you make a very good point, I've noticed the signs in restaurants stating a 20% surcharge for public holidays. I so hope you get the 500 likes however as I've said before ,while ever we have couriers who are imported and work several jobs, none of this will change. I do this full time, I'm working Easter and would love to get an extra 20% ,although I'm pretty sure restaurants would have already charged the extra, so that would equate to 40% extra, get my point?

agree with you 100% mate fuel costs also go up around public holidays usually so id like to be compensated for that as well as my time. to be honest a lot of the gig drivers I see are not Aussie so they wouldn't be use to the Australian way not that I'm saying anything bad but you know what I mean

It'd be nice but I wonder if it'd ever be applied but then nobody is making you work on a public holiday that's what they would say

Uber is a f**king joke. Did 6 hours for Uber eats last night (Good Friday) with 12 trip quest. Only got 8 deliveries and made $96. So minus fuel and expenses about $12 / hour on a public holiday 😂😂🖕

Hi Chris great points. I had my biggest night in 2 years last night. But I am also in for high rates of pay do you think it may affect the amount of orders though. There is no point getting a higher rate on less orders and being in the same situation

Thats why i always take my time to do uber to get reimbursement. During taking order from uber iam taking order from DD too. Dont care! That is my strategy to get OT from uber😂. Unfortunately for DD they never give us reimbursement even take a longer time to deliver.

My Solution would be simple, add a $3 surcharge (Or something similar) and it goes directly to the driver, the rest of the system works the same, so if there is a busy time bonus of $2, you're getting a bonus of $5, so a small $5 delivery suddenly becomes a $10 delivery. I think a surcharge % would be great as well, but could also end up to costly for the consumer, my manager yesterday served a $200 DoorDasher doing a shop and deliver, imagine paying an extra $30 on top of the other fees that are already there. But, that being said, if the % went 100% to the driver, I would be inclined to support that. a $5 delivery becoming a $35 delivery would be incredible for the gig workers. Penalty rates are amazing, tomorrow I'll be on over $60 an hour for 9 hours, juicy

Extra pay on public holidays might help kill the industry. And besides it’s a promoted, not just on this channel, but many places as a supplementary pay to one’s wage. Let the market decide if the customer wants their delivery they will pass it on as a tip .

I originally started following this channel because I thought it was a motivational, go get em, hustle channel. How wrong I was. This has turned into a negative debbie downer channel. Here's the reality of gig driving. Yes your a sole contractor/partner driver. The problem is most people look at this like Employee's instead of through the eye's of a 'small business' owner that you should be, hence the terminology 'Sole Contractor', notice how they don't use the term employee. So if you look at it from the perspective of an hourly rate, your always going to be disappointed. However if you look at it through the lens of a sole contractor/small business owner and take this perspective. So say hypothetically you work a 10 hour day (most small business owners are working much more then that, and sorry, but not a single small business owner anywhere in Australia get's a pay increase for public holidays, literally not one). So you do your 10 hour day, now let's say you drive a fairly fuel efficient car, so after fuel, general running costs and expected taxes to be paid, your out of pocket is approximately $100. Now I've heard multiple times that peeps are making on average $30 per hour. So ten hours by $30 is an expected earnings of $300. Minus our $100 in approximate costs to make that $300. So I've just made a 200% return on investment, or a 66.66% net profit, any small business owner will take those margins any day of the week (Imagine buying a second hand car for $1000 and then 10 hours later you flipped that car for $3000, was that $1000 car a good purchase, the answer should be yes). That's before we even take into consideration the thousands of $$$'s you can claim to off set your taxes and overall running costs of your vehicle/mode of transportation. You need a complete mindset flip, if you keep viewing this through the lens of an employee, your going to end up nothing but a disgruntled employee. If you start viewing this as a small business owner, then you'll start enjoying it more, regardless of when your driving. But like any small business owner/sole contractor in Australia, if you don't like the amount of money you stand to make on a public holiday, then you simply don't work. That's the beauty of being a small business owner, you can literally take a day off whenever you want to.

Bro if you make 300 in a day. Take out 33 percent for tax, and then another 30 to 40 in fuel. That's more than 100 bucks

@@nathanh2725 And what sort of margins do you think a small business owner is actually making after they're expenses and costs of doing business? I can promise you it's not 66.66%, it's much less. If your paying 33% in taxes, I would say you need to find a better accountant.

@downundergamerintaiwan1993 you do pay 33 percent. Yes you get some back on fuel and everything but you still pay 33 or whatever your bracket ends up being. The difference is sole traders usually have days where they make big dollars and alot do cash and avoid tax completely on some jobs. Gig work is sole traders with employer wages essentially
