I know a couple that was in a similar situation. From what I heard their relationship was fiine albeit challenging at times. Unfortunately she died in a car accident a few years later. The difference is they met here in the US and attended the same church. Personally I was not happy about the way they proceeded with their marriage but they were mature adults in their 40s and there were mutual friends and acquaintances who could vouch for his character. This caller is in a long distance relationship with someone she can barely communicate. The foundation of their relationship is shaky. He is also presently unemployed. Too many red flags. Maybe I have seen too many episodes of Dateline, but I fear that this may not end well for her.

For the caller with the $430k in student loans: you most definitely can become a nurse with very little to no need for student loans. There are programs you may qualify to help you cover the cost of tuition and many courses from your biology degree will absolutely count toward your nursing degree. Then, I recommend you move to a relatively low cost of living area in Northern California, work for Kaiser, earn over $200k per year, and pay off your student loans in 2-3 years.

2 Year Associates Degree at a local community college can absolutely get you in the door as an RN as it's all you need for the RN cert. After that, you can work your way up to higher roles and supervisory roles that put you in 6 figures. All for the cost of under $12-15K and that's paying out of pocket either by loan or cash, with no grants, subsidies or scholarships. In some states, Associates degrees at a local state school is nearly free outside the few costs of fees and books.

When we were young and dumb(er) we bought a modest whole life policy. Looking back at what the payments were I'd have been way ahead getting a term life policy and investing the difference. We've never cashed out the policy, but it's worth nothing compared to what that money put into a S&P 500 index or similar fund would have done. Ah well, a good life lesson.

My grandfather was an insurance salesman. Took out a whole life policy on each child. His son died at 26 of liver cancer with a young wife and son. He was completely devastated to learn that the bill of goods he had sold everyone and bought into so much himself- that it was trash and there was nothing. Term life insurance is what he should have had and term actually serves the purpose of protecting a family from the lightening strike of an untimely death.

Thank you for your service. I grew up in a rural area. My family physician took care of several generations of my family, before he retired. That surgeon's wife sounds like his first wife, who dumped him and moved on. I guess there was no place to show off her designer clothes or to socialize with people she thought were her caliber. I could elaborate, but I won't. Fortunately, after many years he remarried. Second wife was and still is a lovely, friendly, country girl. He has given so much to the community over the decades. I am so glad that they were surprised with raising a new family. The kids are also now grown. He is still active and provides care at free clinics.

Also, people around there will be super happy to have y'all there and welcome you with open arms. They need you there. You might find a super tight community there. These are all in the past, but food for thought if someone else is considering this. Obviously, I grew up the opposite way on the sticks raising and growing all of our own food. We were green before green was a term, as in we composted, and grew organic food, and all that stuff. I go back and forth between wanting to live very rural and living in the city. 6:29 Yea, as a fellow immigrant with family that also immigrated here. You’d be surprised how many people get conned out of their minds. And not just citizens. I’ve seen people outside the country con tf out of immigrants HERE. Classic tale: Man walks into jewelry store. Wants to purchase some expensive jewelry send to his “gf/bf”. Logs into “whats app” and send pics, gets call midway through purchase and you see the person on the other line “I love it! *sitting in bed or some sus looking room*. I’ve seen so many hard working people come in after long shifts in construction or the office ect. Dudes/gals lacing confidence and you can tell they are in love. They will ask for recommendations, ect Almost guaranteed the partner living outside the country has another life and or is seeing another person. Meanwhile the person here, whether citizen or immigrant, is working hard sending money and gifts. All to find out in 3-5 years that their “beloved” was using them. Seen it happen tk family friends, customers, ect ect. You warn em, but they refuse to believe.

That young lady, with her boyfriend from the Dominican republic, she needs to know that she has other, less risky, options. She also needs to know that her ability to attract worthwhile men will diminish as she ages. She doesn’t want to waste 10 or 15 years in a bad marriage, because when the marriage ends, her options will have narrowed significantly. Take the time to get it right the first time. Speaking from experience.

Life Insurance tends to work great when the person dies. That doesn’t mean that one of them doesn’t work out in most peoples favor.

Dave should've asked the first caller if she had a healthy dating life before she met this Dominican dude. The likelihood she's being catfished is way higher if she was in a lonely spot to begin with.

I don't disagree - but Dave is also arrogant. His way is the only way and everyone else is wrong. Overall, I love listening to his shorts and I think he generally give great advice. But he isn't always right.

1st caller, as the mother of a 22 yr old young man, living in the Caribbean, I know my son is not ready to be married yet. Still a boy at heart, still studying and still relatively reliant on us. No way can he take care of a wife or kids as yet because we would be the ones financing his marriage. Its too early for u all to be thinking marriage. Take ur time, dont rush it cause u may regret it.

You can hear the guilt in the second callers voice. He has been righting bad insurance policies for year's. Now he feels guilty about it. That's why he called in to argue.
