- In part one of this video, I built what I consider to be my best ever battery from 2800 18650 cells recovered from used laptop batteries. In this where my plans change and changed pretty drastically when I first started this build was about a year ago and since then the laws that involve installing this type of battery have changed to make me continue this type of build not legal. So rather than give up I'll step up - it's a little more cash & a little more effort but as much as I really hate some of the rules they will make my installation much safer & will reduce my very inflated insurance costs by enough to pay for all of the changes in a year or three. So well worth the effort. The plan for the shipping container was to film one epic build/move video over the next few months without telling the world first but these plans have changed so you can see me build out the shipping container and add your feedback if you so feel.

@@AleksandrArtroom HBPowerwall говорит что - " Total max charge/draw is 0.33 amps per cell... issues disappear " - " Общая максимальная зарядка / потребление составляет 0,33 А на ячейку ...

There are some aspects of the mount I really do like, but I have serious reservations as well. The first is it seems the cells are being used as part of the mechanical structure (i.e. the weight of the pack is resting on the bottom cells). This could be asking for trouble especially when considering this second issue. A battery wall is a stationary object right? Well the unfortunate reality is this statement is only ~99.999% true. During an earthquake or other natural disturbance, I suspect there is a possibility the packs could simply fall out of the mount. Since we have little to no warning of when these types of events occur, this might pose a serious safety risk. I do like the simplicity of the design and how easy it is to swap packs in and out if needed, but the above concerns would force me to look for ways to modify it so they are addressed. Anyone have any ideas on improvements? If the mount was installed in an electrical enclosure, maybe the door could also act as a locking mechanism to prevent the bottom of the pack from kicking out? PS. Great job on using the shipping container...don’t think you’d have to worry too much about burning something down :) BTW, this is my single biggest fear with building a DIY power wall and still thinking through how to overcome it - unfortunately I don’t think my neighbors or wife would appreciate the shear beauty of a shipping container.

So was there a reason why you cut down a 20ft shipping container and not use a 10ft explosives container? or even a 10ft hi-top or 10ft standard container? as I build with 40ft, 20ft, 10ft and other more exotic configurations. Cutting, welding, painting costs is all.

Man these rules are harsh, thankfully all my battery builds so far have been portable and as a result don't suffer from these new rules. Seems the best way to still make your own battery systems will be to make it in a big chest and put wheels on it, although that doesn't help if you want to make a powerwall integrated into a house's mains wiring (then again doing that without an electrician was already illegal). This situation seems similar to the FPV drone hobby. When the rules become so extreme that everyone is breaking at least one of them, it becomes easy to ignore them all together.

Yes, I would uncover a pipe and move back behind. I had 2 sand bags to stop it from rolling too far. One in the back, one in front, move the bag to keep it from rolling back. Move the bag in back, drop in a pipe and keep going. Hardest part was getting all the pipes out from under. A floor jack did the job.

It was on fire. 6yrs of ebike battery building and my first battery failure.. Id rather get my heart rate up riding.. The fire got it up higher i think.. Be safe building these. Match your cells. Better to use gas of just a 220v inverter

I love what you did and I am building a 24-volt battery bank for a houseboat I am going to be building with solar panels. What I need to know is. Did you use any BMS for your battery bank, or did you just connect it to an MPPT charger? Also if you did use a BMS, how many amBMS would you suggest I get for my bank?

Dad used to say, "Some people work harder getting out of work, than if they just worked". I thought of that when you said to your wife, you did not like to work.

I like your new battery box. One thing I would like to see is one box just for battery's and electronics somewhere else. So if there was any accident you would only loose second hand batteries Not everything. Even separated your batteries in half. Starting to get scared of dendrites. Being the cause of a fire on old batteries.

So much work, with Li-Ion cells. High density, but so much easier to get the needed AH's with LiFePO4, plus much lower risk of individual cell failures.

I have a 20ft container in my backyard which I was intending to get rid of once I built my 90m2 shed - hoping the shed would be suitable for batteries. Would it? Looks like the batteries are going in the container for the mean time tough!

Love the enthusiasm in what you're doing! Do you plan on charging the whole Battery Pack with Solar? I also like the part - Shipping Container as a storage for all those batteries too! For cooling, I would simply use a Solar Pump, and spray the whole Container, during those hot summer months. It really is a cheap effective solution, but you need a sealed tray underneath the Shipping Container, to capture/recirculate the water. I too, have had a "poor Man's Powerwall, mounted in an Electrical Enclosure - on the outside wall of the house. Using a single Solar Panel, and a 100Ah lead-acid battery, it has provided free (automatic) lighting in my home since 2005. The swim pool area also has overnight (free) lighting, and also the pool underwater light is operated on 12 volt from solar. One day, all homes will have a Hybrid (back-up) system. My '71 Beetle has also had the 'treatment' and has 4400 Lithium 18650 batteries on board, is fully-electric. Found your YT Vid by chance today. Doing our bit to save the Planet!
