The last time I attempted a home perm was in the 70s. I made my friend look like she stuck her finger in a light socket--good thing she has a great sense of humor. ;) You're a wonderful teacher; very informative and careful to include important tips that an uneducated person wouldn't think of. I feel much more confident about trying it again. But, my hair tends to break off at the root during perms, and I was recently very ill. I've never had a lot of volume and its always been straight and thin. I had a few noticeable bald spots due to malnutrition. After a year, it still isn't very full. Money is tight because of the accident, but I'm trying to get back to being myself...hair and nails seem like a good place to start building some energy and confidence. :) If you feel comfortable giving advice--even if it's just to tell me it's not a good idea to perm it right now--I would really appreciate your input. Is there a specific solution you would use or a way to prevent the breakage; or are there other things I should be aware of given the condition of my hair right now? Please feel free to decline to answer, you have my thanks for great advice, regardless!

Hi ! It will be alot harder to wrap because of all of the layers in your hair so I recommend a professional doing your hair , but at the same time layers look nice with a perm because layers dont weigh the hair down and your hair is long so I think your hair will look pretty with a perm. as far as the same results go, if you use purple rods Like in part 4 the curls will be the same size yes, hope this helps :)

I have a question. When I was a teenager I got this terrific perm! The gal did an amazing job! She took a small section of hair, 1/4 X 1/4 chunk of hair and wound it up and down on the rods. (like you buy a scane of yarn-how yarn is wound.) Rods were vertical, layer upon layer of rods. I try to explain this to the beautician and she does not listen and winds the hair the length of the rod. I have long hair, to my shoulder blades. My question is there a particular name for this type of rolling?

you should follow the manufacturers instructions. but generally perms develop in the first 5-10 min. you should check every 5. when checking a curl you wanna look for an s formation of the hair, 5-7 strand splits, and the arc from the rod.

I got my perm exactly a week ago, the first day it was very curly then it slowly became wavy. Some parts are curly mostly the top back. Now the rest is wavy straight, and the back is just straight. I think this is mostly my fault because I put conditioner the exact same day. My hair stops where my neck stops so it's short and I stripped it out about 4 months ago to get the color blonde. I've done so many crazy things to my hair so I'm not worried about getting damaged. I'm planning to do my own perm, I'm asking how long do I have to wait so I can perm it again without it falling off or my hair falling off?

hi! unfortunately not you need a little longer than that to curl around the perm rods if you want wavy hair you will need large perm rods so you will have to grow out your hair to at least wrap around the rod 3 and a half times at the very least. thanks have a lovely day ;)
