Pt.1 ATV CV Boot Replacement At D-Ray's Shop
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
All modern ATVs use CV shafts in one form or another, this Yamaha 660 Grizzly has a total of ten! They are easily torn, and if left un checked will ruin the CV joint. They are not hard to replace, as you will see.
Thanks for watchin' Don't miss Parts 2 and 3

This three part series is among the best I have ever watched on ytuber. Excellent video and audio, great angles. Explained everything as you went. Thanks so much for your time on this. I was able to take on my ATV with no issues after this. Mp
I watched all three. Was clueless before, but in the morning I do believe I'll have my new boot on. Thanks
Another very informative video that couldn't be explained any better. THANK YOU
D Ray, you're a bloody champion. thanks mate. I'm an organic beef farmer near a place called Forrest in Victoria Australia. Thanks so much for your generosity of spirit. If I could send you some beefy goodness I would.
D-Ray I've just started a ATV and Motorcycle Repair Shop and I wear you're video's out.Keep them coming,UR the "Man"...
You have saved me the cost of destroying a perfectly good CV joint . I knew there had to be a way of taking that apart without C4. Thanks!
Thanks D-Ray Had my half shaft changed and inner ball joint repacked in 15 minutes thanks to you.
Just an excellent step by step video. Made the job sooooo easy. Thanks DRay 👍🏻
Thanks, I just changed out the cvc boot on my Yamaha Viking 700 after watching your video. Appreciate your help! Happy Thanksgiving!
good mate, really helpfully,i replaced mine by watching this video myself, cost me $12, saved heaps.keep up good work
Excellent videos sir. I just replaced the boot on a can am commander myself and it was easy after watching this. Keep up the great work. Thanks for posting.
Well done video, very informative. Thanks for taking your time to share.
Excellent. Very helpful video. Perfectly explained and illustrated. Will look for party 2 now!
Thank you for your time and your expertise d ray
The outer joint will come apart as well and this could be easier than removing the inner boot and clamps. Saves a little mess. Great job on the videos!
Great video thank u. One note to save time u can remove the side toward the tire by itself u do not have to take the inner and outer boot off. The kit only comes with grease for one boot. If u take a piece of wood and hit it with a hammer it will come off. Same type of snap ring that goes into the rear end. Awesome video thank u so much. It allowed me to do it myself instead of paying a dealer to do it!
Very good video, showing step by step. Wish I could find more like this for my Grizzly 700 as I have to do the rear axles. Thanks for the great instructions.
Great video. I searched a few other videos and this was the only accurate one.
Love your work D-ray
Nice video, just found one of my boots cracked today throwing grease all over. Will order new ones and with the help of this video and pt 2, I can get it done!! Thanks
Great job explaining how to do this repair. Thanks for making this video. :)
very useful. I did the same on my suzuki king quad, same driveshaft
Very informative and attention to detailed video! Thanks
Thank you so much D ray! Saved me a load of trouble and money
Great job. Thanks for showing those hidden clips
Thanks DRay, I have a 1999 Yamaha big bear 350 atv. I got from father in law from Malvern, AR. it runs but will be needing to change all fluids and check those boots like this video. I will be watching for any other videos on any Yamaha's. I also have a mint condition 1984 Honda big Red, i'm a Honda person myself. so the Yamaha will be something new. Keep the videos going, I really appreciate those and really informative for us guys that are " hands on and got to see it first "
Great job on an easy to see video. Helped me do it myself on mine.
you are a great teacher
Thanks for the excellent walkthrough. It really got me out of a jam.
Very well explained video cheers I’ll get my boot changed on my grizzly with no fuss now
Thanks! Great video.
Appreciate the video. Worked well on my grizzly.
Excellent. Thank you....well done.
Good stuff. Thanks!
I sure do appreciate you doing this video along with the explanations. I was assembling one earlier today and I am not sure which direction I put the bearing back in. I will have to get dirty again and disassemble another time to check.

Great viddo. Very helpful. A+++
Thanks for the video it helped!
tank ou verry much man!!!!
good info, a pair of pliers does the exact same thing as that tool does to remove the clamps just fine though
your a hard core cool man! i want to be just like you d ray
Oh my gosh! Thank you thank you thank you! You explained that very well. I was about to take a hammer and take the outer joint off by force. LOL
wanna say great video, im replacing the CV Boot on my Side X Side, and got to the point where the knuckle is off now should the CV axle just pull out as well?
I got the bearing off! (Heat and hammer - carefully) Just need to make sure I get the bearing balls back into bearing joint and then on axle the correct way. With some more careful review of your video, I should be successful. Thx again.
Fellow TNPer I see! El Dudio!
Hoping it will be as easy as you make it, when i do on my 96 Polaris explorer
Thanks for a great presentation.I am a bit tired of the potty mouthed Cowboys ,cheers mate
Hi there Mr D. Very informative info for sure. Have you ever replaced the rear drive draft on a 2007 sazuki 700? NOT THE DRIVE AXLES BUT THE SHORT DRIVE SHAFT AHEAD OF THE REAR DIFF. Sorry for the caps.LOL
D-Ray, I finally tore into replacing my CV Boots on the front right of my Honda 350 Rancher. Great step-by-step video! I've watched it several times. Thanks! One small issue I ran in to: I cannot get the ball joint (bearing) off of the shaft after removing the cir-clip. Yours came off effortlessly! Mine seems to be seized.(?)...While working on it, the ball bearings started coming out. Right now, I just took them all out while I try to figure out how to get the ball joint off. Any suggestions?
Hello D-ray ! I have a question i cant find the answer to, when you replace a rear differential seal on a yamaha grizzly 450, do you push it in dry and clean or do you use oil or grease to help it slide in? Thank`s for a great video =)
Question: Could I get away with pulling the shaft by removing the circlit clip inside the boot at the inner bearing as opposed to knocking the whole assembly out? I ask because I cant seem to find the retaining c-clip at a resonable price around me and I'm worried about destroying them when jerking them out. Thanks!
do u have a video of a front diff seal replacement on a 350 Honda rancher 4x4 es
great video!! Where do you order your kits from?
More info on the boot clamp pliers would be great. Link to buy online or what store and brand name maybe. Thanks.
have you come across a cv driveshaft that matches either end of HONDA FL350R buggy,as the uj shaft is awful and not obtainable.
what did u use to clean the joints and all of the grease out with
have you ever fixed the 4x4 on a 96 bearcat 454? the secondary front drive shaft broke and im not sure on how to replace it
ANYONE KNOW PLEASE REPLY .. I have a 2015 arctic cat mudpro 1000, white cap axel ( newer style CV) . My question is when removing the axel like in this video. Am I to make note or mark the CV/axel exactly how I take it out ? And put it back in exactly the way it comes out ? Or does that matter ? THANKS
Im having a hard time getting the cage out. I cant see or find any ring to remove it.
Is it the same on a 2005 honda rancher 350.ES?
Hey can you fix a dryer too? Mine has to run for 4 to 6 hour before things will be dry :(
Where do you get the parts from I have not found the outer boot with the clamps and grease for the inside boot
Would this make one wheel not turn when turning your steering wheel
good video! in ATV world i can see pulling on the axle like that is ok, i accully have no idea! but in the automotive world thats a big NO NO xD
good job i am guessing the 350 grizzly is the same? can i buy the piece the shaft completly assembled? i when i turn hard right there is some clicking. i took the wheel off and the boot was torn and the bearing looks to be hanging out. dont know if that is normal. the shaft has some worn on it where it looks like it has been rubbing something. do you recomend any place to order a complete shaft at online? i was looking at partszilla which is close to me in albany georgia.
Also, you removed the boot that was fine first. Couldn't you just remove the broken boot side, and if so, is the process any different?
What's the name of the end that doesn't come apart. the order page to order parts is confusing. thanks in advance
While you have it apart wouldent it make sense to just replace both boots
Any chance you could share your parts supplier with us? I'm having a hard time finding a kit for my Outlander 400
some one help. i cant get the diff side of the axle to come out the snap ring fell off
👍🏽 😘
We're is pt 3??
What kit did u use?
Looks like a similar idea to ones found on a car :-) . I dont know, im sure manufacturers change things on purpose, yet another tool to have to buy :-( If it was mine i would use reusable jubilee clamp, a screwdriver or nut driver fits them :), im a bodging git ha ha :-)) Shame the owner didnt say to replace the inner boot at the same time, im sure you wouldnt have charged the earth for a new boot, its allways a good idea while your there. Hope your business is doing ok mate :-)
Lint screen, dude...lol!
U wouldn't happen to no how to bypass limp mode on 680 would u.
"and then we can remove the knucklehead!". But wait a minute, don't we need him?
Oetiker clamp.
so my bearing assembly didn't just slide off the shaft like that, had to press it off, in doing so, it got cockeyed and the balls came out, what's the best way to get them back in? they do go inside the it, right?

+Charles S (Papachaz) ok answering my own question in case anyone else wants to know, the balls just snap back into the race. I had to drive mine back on again as well, put the snap ring back on, then just pull the race up and snap the little balls back into the holes, fill the cup with grease and put it together as shown in the video.

I'm actually going to have to put another boot on the same side. Very poor design on the guards, it cuts out and allows anything to get in there directly in line with the boot. While I've got this apart this time, I'm going to take some expanded metal or sheet metal, the torches and take time to make a guard that will actually GUARD the boots. this is a pathetically poor guard system on the front of these ATVs
Anyone know what happens if you install the ball joint backwards? I'm getting a "clacking" noise now when turning corners after replacing the boots and reassembling - wondering if I might have made that mistake . . . ?

Nope, wasn't that. Took both axles apart again just to verify - everything was installed correctly, but still getting the clacking/clunking noise when cornering. No idea what it is.
What's up neighbor
it's clean!...lol
Wow that's a hole
Why does the CV boot come which four clams
