    Saw this video last week and what i learned from here saved me yesterday. Replacing the axle on my Audi i removed a ziptie holding on the inner joint too early and the balls started falling out when positioning the axle. Cleaned and greased the balls and put them back in saving me a headache.

    Throw away society all in the name of greed (but disguised as efficiency and warranty security). Manufacturers = Financially Wins as it gets to sell you more than you need (whole assemblies) increasing profits Mechanics = Financially Wins by having a higher Profit margin on top of more expensive whole assemblies. Wins again as the fix is faster (ensures profit consistency per job). Customer = Financially Loses due to paying a lot more for buying whole assemblies. Environment = Loses due to more pollution manufacturing and more pollution as land fill

    As a mechanic while I agree rebuilding is a good thing to know how to do, in certain situations like cvs it’s usually actually cheaper for the customer to replace the unit rather than getting it rebuilt so to the extra cost of labour spent rebuilding. If doing it yourself then definitely rebuilding is much cheaper

  • @lowrangeoffroad1

    @lowrangeoffroad1

    That is a good question. These parts are super hard. We took this joint apart several times with these tools and there was not sign of any damage at all. We have tried brass and found that brass flakes and chips off leaving little pieces of brass inside the joint and they are almost impossible to clean out. So we recommend using steel tools. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

I bought a new CV join all shape and size are identical same amount of inner teeth but the teeth/grove slightly different shape the new one it had a v shape grove instead of a U shape grove and it seen 2mm smaller to fit to the main shaft. will it be ok to remove the old internal into the new one with the new bearing. The old CV join make click when turning corner as the rubber cover was damage with unknown time. any help thanks in advance.

    Sir, my car CV axle has a play and make sounds on both sides of the front car. I hold the CV axle firmly, pushing in and out. During this time, the axle makes a play movement about 1 cm with a bit of click sounds. There are no leaks or signs of worn in the bushings or rubber parts. Is this normal? And any danger in driving with this axle play? Would be please to hear a good solution Thanks

    Where do i get balls and housings? Here in germany it isn't common to repair like that although it is a great thing. I think that probably the work time is to expensive. If you search here at the auto part dealer you can only buy the whole axle. In some cases you can get the joints solo. But i don't know where to find balls, cages or other parts solo.

    How do you know which side is broken, the one to the wheel or the one to the transmission? I replaced CV Axles on 2001 Saturn SL2 like 1 - 1.5 years ago, and now it started to give a slight clicking noise on sharp turns to the right (when you basically go on the circle in clockwise direction). When the car goes straight, no noise, so I think it is the left (DS) CV Axle. Maybe I moved it too much on installation, maybe just such aftermarket part (though it is Cordona, seems like no complaints about them). So, if I remove that CV Axle, can I find out somehow which side of it has a problem? Or it is better to take apart both ends? Thank you for the informative film.
