Exactly. Most people would know a "magician" is merely a trickster performing so called "magic" TRICKS intended to fool them since they'll be puzzled how they did it. But then came these people trying to claim they have actual supernatural powers, no trickery. Their "magic" only works under their own conditions, and even then it's weak as can be. And psychics are the worst of them all. They prey on the vulnerable who seek closure and want to believe in it. You can't even pretend it's some magic power. It's so obviously a game of 20 questions to dig for information, then confidently acting like they knew it already once its confirmed, all educated guesses and lies, with back peddling where needed, all to make it seem like they've offered them something.

If I had been that guy and seen Fry and Laurie in the front row I would've guessed it was one of them and ad-hoc altered my prediction "This person loves to entertain. They might have gone into stage or television. Maybe comedy. Perhaps working with a partner in a comedy duo. Maybe also appearing in a period sitcom named after a snake and/or maybe a televisual adaptation of a series of interwar comedy novels."

Most magicians do not claim to be doing real magic. Psychics pretend to be doing real magic. Fun fact Randy mentored Penn and Teller.

Not every person who values truth has to become some “moral crusader of everything”. Randi’s specialty was always magic / paranormal claims & knew intimately how all those tricks worked. Ironically, most of the crusaders I’ve met were the last people I wanted to stand up to big pharma or whoever.

This is exactly the psychology and manipulation that have so many gullible simpletons to this day believing the fairytale of religion.
