@SGT. Moose Is the roller that's connected to the white gear supposed to roll/spin or not? I cleaned my Disc Drive rollers yesterday and noticed that the roller next to the white gear is not rolling/spinning. So i'm wondering since it's my first time cleaning my Disc Drive.

this video literally just saved my life, i couldnt put any discs in and couldnt figure out why. turns out somehow the disc guard to prevent discs from coming out was up and this was the only video i found that mentioned that and how to get it to come down. thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤❤❤❤

Hey I live in Australia, at my local game shop they said it would cost me $150 to get my disc drive fixed and that it would take 3-4 weeks and possibly loose save data, I found this video and My dad and I managed to fix it and nothing went wrong, thank you so so much for this video, it saved me 4 weeks and $150, thansk so much, words cant describe how happy i am.

Thanks for the video. It saved my PS4 even though I bought a new slim model. There was a penny stuffed in the drive that eventually threw the rollers out of alignment. I think the white piece along the side of the drive needs to be explained more but it took a couple trys to finally figure out how it needed to be set. Two thumbs up dude!

You’re a lifesaver, I watched another video to take mine apart and it didn’t mention the gear to lower the drive for the block and roller. So I couldn’t load disks afterwards, I was going crazy and didn’t know what I missed. My original PS4 works and reads disks like it’s brand new again. I just cleaned the drive up a little bit and used alcohol on the laser, the rollers and the black cloth that accepts the disc.

Thank you, my drive is now fully operational again. I popped those grey rollers out and used a paper handkerchief and rubbing alcohol to clean them. The handkerchief was brownish-grey afterwards. I got the system about 1.5 years ago from a heavy smoker, non-working because of overheating. Stripped it down to the core (yes, literaly) and had remove about 5 milimeters of dust and nicotin crap from the aluminium air vents (if you ever cleaned a dryer, the stuff you take out of the fluff filter has about the same thickness) and I also exchanged the thermal grease. The drive kinda worked, but had always problems getting the disks in and out, but I never really dared opening it up, after basically ruining a PS3 drive once. Now that it's cleaned it works like a charm and is one of the quietest PS4s out there.

The tool you want is a #8 Torx security screwdriver. You need to get the one with the hole in it, not the normal one (albeit if you do have it, you can make them work, it is just difficult. The little pin in the centre isn't that strong.)

I have a 1st gen ps4 that I bought secondhand off of a coworker years ago, and it’s chugged along but it’s always had a very touchy disc drive - last night it kept spitting out my disc and then it just stopped taking it altogether. This tutorial just saved my system during a time when I can’t afford a new one. You’re a godsend, thank you so much 💜

Life of Chad it’s not going to, Sony os going to keep discs since they own blue ray and they are going to hurt their company (losing money) if they stop making disc for ps4

Thanks very much for the video. I thought my roller was off when i heard a rattling but did not know how to open it up. Once watching this i got in there i soon realised one of my little monster had stuck a coin in there and it had loged in the back of the mechanism for the safety lip. OMG, I FIXED IT!!!!!!!! Just in time for Red Dead Redemption 2 I haven't gotten a chance to use my ps4 in 2 years!! [life changes/I'm good now] I do have another PS4 that's black and brand new unused unopened and was bought before this white Destiny 1 Edition that's my main console . I'm a collector of things when I get the opportunity 😁 Damn those rollers! and yeah I need some of that Air-In-A-Can stuff... I'm very glad I had the tools. Well mine just needed a little tlc. They needed cleaning with 99.9% alcohol but this did help me understand how to put the rollers back together. I had the 1200 model so I had to look up another video on how to take it apart, which involved taking apart the power supply. But thank you so much! Cool stickers, I've got fallout 4 stickers on mine.

Very helpful vid. I also have an original PS4 and I'm fairly certain that the warranty is no longer a valid consideration as it only lasts a year from date of purchase and you MUST have a receipt. Otherwise Sony will charge you $150. At that point, better to either buy a new one, or get brave with a T8 security bit.

FIX NON READING DISCS THE EASY WAY. The fan is circulating dust from the inside of your PS4 and telling the system that the disc is dirty. I almost took my ish apart but my PS4 has been just fine ever since I cleaned it 3 days ago. Get a very small flat head driver and just clean the vents on the sides of the PS4 top and bottom, making sure to blow through vents from front to back and dig that crap out. My 2 discs load every time now no problem and its so much quieter now too.

Myself and my 2 boys get home from Fan Expo in Toronto with 7 PS4 games in hand to add to the never ending collection of awesomeness. Get home and the PS4 has the Check System fault or bug, so fix that after hrs. Then the PS4 will not accept any disc, though I can hear it trying. Tried the basic fixes mentioned to no avail and then came to find your channel. Excellent job running through it all and though I have upgraded the HD twice now due to the amount of games, I was hesitant to go this far. I did though to avoid having to buy a new one ( Sony said send it them right away for a awful price and time) . My problem was not the white middle part connecting the 2 rollers, but the one roller was somehow stuck without popping up, perhaps due to dust? Anyway blew it out and made sure it was functioning okay. It works and thanks for taking the time to help fellow gamers.

Many thanks for this video- I was able to fix my console, but the problem was not what I expected. I got all the way to opening up the disc drive and taking it apart and lo and behold, there was a dime inside my three year old son had jammed in there! 🤦🏻‍♂️ Thanks again- now I can keep some money in the bank for the PS5.

Hey u seem smart, my ps4 takes like 5 or so mins to start and when it does it opens like usual, but when i put a disk in it sounds like it reads it, but it doesnt read it, and game never starts.
