Ugh, I’m guilty of putting my saddle too far forward (sadly, my old trainer TOLD me to put it there!) but once I left that barn and learned about proper saddle placement my horse started talking much longer strides! I felt soooo bad for putting my saddle in the wrong place but I’ve definitely learned my lesson!

@@freespiritequestrian it’s funny you say that too far forward is one of the most common mistakes. The ones I see is correct placing but backwards and of course to far back but correct orientation but too far back

My trick is the girth should fit perfectly under the belly, if the girth is too far from the legs or too close to the legs then you know your saddle isn’t in the right place

Really important short. The English saddle should have the tree point behind the withers about 2-3 fingers. Very good point!

More to come!
Great explanation 👍🏼
I ride a horse that is 17.2 hands, and it is ridiculously hard to get the saddle in the right spot on his back! For a big horse, he has little to no withers so his saddle is hard to fit and hard to tell if it’s in a good spot or not. Typically I have to put my saddle a little far up so it slides back into proper position. But not super far up. Still a great tutorial for beginners who might not know how to tack up quite yet!

You have to go behind the withers and scapula. It’s about being behind the Caudal aspect!
From my observation @ 90% of riders have the saddle on the shoulder blades / scapula.

Your saddling from the wrong side. Sposed to saddle on the left.

That’s completely incorrect. You should be saddling horses from both sides. If you do everything from one side how will your horse stay balanced or comfortable it’s entire life?
