Proper Racing Pedigree: Aprilia RS50 | RTW

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Living in New Zealand means we're dominated by Japanese vehicle manufacturers, this is probably why I've never understood the big deal with Aprilia's RS50 model. Safe to say, all it took was one ride and now I get it! This 6 speed manual had a lot of pep and is well built. Enjoy the video.

    I got one new when I left school and started an apprenticeship at 16 back in 2001 in the lion head colours. It was a UK restricted bike and it was the slowest thing on the road. It was restricted by bypassing the expansion chamber with an internal pipe. The thing wouldn't rev over 5,000 rmp and tapped out at about 24mph. I kept on begging my dad to let me de restrict it but he was having none of it because of the legality of it. That was of course untill he borrowed it one day to go to work on. He got and said he realised how bad it was and how dangerously slow it was.. We derestricted it that weekend and the little thing lit my hair on fire! Finally I felt like king of the road! Ah the nostalgia 😍

    My dad got me one new in 2005 when Aprilia was bankrupt. I've several engines built for it, one full Metrakit pro race which was somewhere near 20hp at 15k rpm. I loved that thing and had it for over 8 years. Few years ago got a RS125 to fully restore, got a 140cc built for that but it wasn't quick enough and I upgraded to an RSV1000R, the dream bike when I was 16years old.

    I had one of these...1999 model. Put a big bore kit on it to 70cc, upgraded the carb from 12mm to 21 with larger jetting, air filter and a gianelli race pipe. She finished up topping just over 85mph with really quick acceleration. Sadly the little am6 power plant did not live very long probably due to the tolerances being wacked way of the grid, but 17 yr olds will be 17yr olds.

    I have tried several 50cc sport's bikes, all with either an AM6 or a Derbi engine, but the Aprilia I tried, even if it was the slowest, it felt like an actual legit race bike It was the 2018 version, that bike is quite fast for being all stock doing the same top speed as in the video

  • @att49356

    @att49356

    The bike you tried, from 2018, has the exact same main chassis as the One in this video. The main differenze between them are the engine, from Am6 to derbi, front forks, rear swing arm and seat chassis. And if this wasn't weird enough, Aprilia used this aluminium chassis also for their RS4 125 4stroke bike AND the RS4 250 Cup! I do have the same bike in the video plus the '06-'11 version. This very chassis Is top notch, even if It has a big angle on the steering compared to other bikes. Fantastic in everything

    What an amazing bike. It would be the perfect bike to learn to race. You need to carry corner speed. Just like the Moto 3 bikes that lap Valencia in 1:37 while the Moto GP bikes lap in 1:29. 4 times the engine size and hp and only 9% faster, quite amazing really.
