Meanwhile the Serpent did the latter and accomplished it just by fighting Thor, while Kratos had to go through so much shit in God of War 2 to pull it off. So yes, even for him it's bullshit. All that hard work to go back 1-2 days and then to the Titan War by dicking around with an actual time machine, while the Serpent fights Thor and it just happens.

@@littleaqua32 Mimir said it was because of its battle with Thor. The serpent didn't do it on purpose. It was just the outcome of their epic clash.

People don't get why Kratos was in disbelief; it wasn't that he didn't believe time travel was possible, but the method. It took Kratos a lot of effort to time travel (most of GoW2) so for him, it is possible, just incredibly hard. Yet Jormungandr time travelled by just fighting super hard around the world tree. For a god-slayer that did a lot of impressive physical feat, even he had never fought so hard, he accidentally travel back in time. That is what Kratos found to be unbelievable. Not the time travel, but the method.

His time travelling was deliberate though and required specific conditions to happen. Jormungadr time traveled by basically being punched by Thor so hard he went back in time. Even kratos never pulled that off.

Well he didn't technically save his own life. Just pulled the blade of Olympus out of his own body

From 2022 after playing God of War 5: Atreus did "create" Yormungandr by putting a giant's soul into the body of a snake who lost its own. Then this snake with giant's soul grew fast into a giant snake. He then joined the battle of Ragnarak and fought Thor. Like Mimir said, the big clash during the battle sent him back in time to soooooo long ago. He lived in the past thereafter and became the World Serpent that people know of.

Remember boys, Jormungundr is Kratos' grandson.

Could be both, though we don’t know when, and IF this world serpent dies. Ragnarök is not that far now, not enough to have Atreus raise a snake that could face Odin in combat. Well that could have 2 explanations: 1) World serpent is born and raised by Loki as Ragnarök goes on, then the adult World Serpent fights odin, and sends his young self back in time, not himself personally 2) It... it theoretically could be the same one, traveling through time constantly, now you’d say it doesn’t make sense since then where would he come from. Just look up the infinite hotel paradox. It means that the snake doesn’t really have to have a beginning since he always comes back in time... and he always did.

i think it's multiple time lines cause in the serpents original timeline he was born and matured to an adult before ragnarok, since baldr's death triggers ragnarok I would assume that in this timeline it happens much sooner, I personally would like to see how they implement Loki' s 2 other kids.

So that confirms that Atreus is indeed Loki... Because on the actual Norse Mythology, Jörmungandr is the second son of Loki, with the giantess Angrboda... Also, when Atreus discovers he is a god, he asks Kratos if he can become an animal... Which is one of Loki's abilities, shape shifting

Damn I can't wait for the sequel. There are so many possibilities the story can evolve.

If you take a better look behind the curtain where Kratos saw Atreus with his head on his lap, you can see Atreus leaving in the company of three wolves. They're not trying to go for fidelity to the original norse myth, but create their own take on it. Also, it's kind of hard to do that in a game in which the main character (an original character) goes and is directly responsible for the death of every single character in the pantheon lol. At any rate, I think they're building something really special here, from a narrative perspective, so I couldn't care less about baldur not being the embodiment of grace and kindness, or Frigga and Freya being the same person. In this context they are giving enough hints for us to piece together what goes on in the future, but for someone who thougt was just clickbaited into this video, I can definitely say that it's a solid possibility that Jormungandr recognizes Atreus because it is actually his son. Add in the little conversation Atreus has with Kratos about wanting to turn into animals, and we can take a lot of these "teases" as leading up to him being Loki, the so-called God of Mischief and force behind Ragnarok (in this game's verse anyway)

Loki is in some sources the son of Fárbauti and Laufey in mythology. Here is completely different. I think you're completely right. They're trying to tell their own story using the mythology. I mean there's a Greek God in there, how is that part of the mythology haha and people believe that nope. It's taken exactly how it was - that Loki has to be the serpents father even though that makes 0 sense.

Much like Marvel did with norse mythology, tthey are creating their own source. A completely fictional one at that, of course. Cory Barlog himself said that he finds the concept of all mythologies existing in the same world except divided by geography a fascinating one, and it's what they're going for here. In fact, the original plan, in David Jaffe's head (original director for the 1st GOW) was to have the third game already introduce Egyptian and Norse gods and have a whole clusterfuck of myths going on with Kratos going through everything. This game follows on that cue presenting a much wider scope of continuity. Regarding Loki's parents, race and origins, considering that sources vary a lot, at this point there's no real reason to argue about which version of Loki Atreus is and what will happen in the future. We can only wait. The same goes for Lokis' "sons" Fenrir, Sleipnir, Jormungandr and whatever... With the way this game cleverly shifts things here and there, they might end up not even being his offspring, but creatures that will fight with him or that he'll take in or something... This video showcases, more like teases, the serpent and the boy will meet in the future, but it's not really proof that it'll be exactly like father and son. Ragnarok, however, is a given. This entire game is just build-up and foreshadowing of the sequel and the director admitted to that as well. Anyways, I'm just pumped to see how this story unfolds, because, as a long-time God of War fan and admirer of Mythology and pop-culture surrounding it, I couldn't be happier with how this series turned out, from a narrative perspective.

I did massive amounts of research on this, and in the game yes it is heavily implied the serpent is Atreus's son from the future, he's the middle child of Loki(atreus) and giantess Angrboða, Loki is a shapeshifter (Atreus clearly doesn't know this ability yet) so anyone of his forms could resemble his offspring.

Inner Kratos: I had to kill the sisters of fate and then find a portal and that motherfucking snake time travels just by fighting too hard? Outer kratos: that is madness!

That's interesting, I had this conversation when I was about to face a Valkyrie. Because of the loudness of the Realm Jump, you can't quite hear how powerful "That is MADNESS" sounds.

'That is Madness' - coming from someone who traveled back in time to recruit the titans to attack mt. olympus.

I'm not going to lie, I had quite the hearty laugh when Kratos delivered the "That is madness" line here during my playthrough.

FistHound 00 I think the world serpent in game was most likely die on ragnarok by thor then loki will breed another snake named the same and when it was old enough he will fight thor sending him back in time repeating the cycle.

in Norse mythology, the death of Baldur signifies the beginning of Ragnarok, in which "Fimbulwinter" would begin (a 3-year long winter) when Baldur dies in the game his last word is "snow" which implies the beginning of Fimbulwinter. Remember when Kratos says "there are consequences to killing a god" this implies that they have changed the future timeline when they killed Baldur. so no he will not be an adult, he will just be 3 years older.

Boom. This makes so much sense now. It would seem the mural at the end would be indicative of the birthing of the serpent through "Atreus". This fits the mythos and the words of Mimir and the Serpents. Dang man. Layers. LAYERS DONKEY, LAYERS.

that shows how humble and simple he is in his heart. he doesn't make a fuss about his bravery unless he's already in a fight. and he thinks time travel is crazy both because he himself experienced it and also that despite being the god of war he never forgot he is also an old spartan general who thinks everything beyond human abilities is madness. he never lost his humanity, he just had to ignore it so he could cast his vengeance upon the gods.

The game wants it to be obvious at the end for people who know aboit the Norse Mythology. The game is using the mystery story telling scenario. And I get your point.

And yeah, the game does make Atreus' real name a hard secret to break, but after it is revealed we now know right away that if anyone who has any ties to Loki in the myths appear....it's gonna be interesting to say the least ((I wonder if we'll see Hela, did she already appear in this game? If she did, i forgot))

@@Voc_spooksauce Yes. It is great story telling. Sorry. I don't know almost anything about Norse Methology. ThT is what makes the game better to me in a way. If you are talking about Hela, the woman who appeared in the Thor movie and wanted to destroy the world, this is the only movie I watched about Thor, then I don't think she appeared. Except if she appeared in a way that we could barely notice🤔

Can’t wait for the next games to be announced. It’ll be years before the next one releases but it’ll be worth the wait.

Totally took me by surprise there. Such a great story, almost fit for myth and legend.

It's nice to see Kratos stating this as madness, yet he himself time traveled not only once (to fight Zeus) but twice (to bring the Titans)

Here's the problem with time. It's fucked up yo. Someone messed with the timeline so I'm gonna go cross-eyed explaining this. At the end of the game, the Dwarves and Mimir say it's Fimblevinter, the winter to end all winters and after 3 years Ragnarok will start. According to this timeline it's not possible for Atreus to be Jormungandr's father because...well, one Atreus is still a kid and two the World Snake wouldn't grow that big in that time. HOWEVER, Mimir mentions Fimblevinter isn't meant to occur for about a hundred winters before they "changed" something, so in that time it's theoretically possible for the future Atreus that won't ever be to be *that* World Serpent's father, even without *this* Atreus being able to have a kid in that time. If ANY of that made sense, you're as crazy as me XD

Atreus was born recently and the serpent was around before time - in the mythology Loki is in some sources the son of Fárbauti and Laufey. Here he's the son of a Giant and a Greek God. This video is nonsense.

Tony Montana yes, he is the son of Laufey and Farbauti. Both of those names are used to describe Kratos and Faye in the paintings on the wall at the end of the game. Obviously a game series where a fictional character is inserted into a mythology he does not belong in will change things around to make sense within the story of the game. How is that so fucking hard to understand? I dont see anybody watching Thor movies and saying "well this isnt right...".

There’s two moments also that hint at Atreus’s age not telling it but giving you an idea, when you go into the serpents mouth and I don’t know the exact dialogue but he says something about when he use to be young, but he is young, but also when Atreus asked Freya when she last saw Baldur before you fight baldur. She said long ago, before you were born. Now I don’t know the exact significance of those lines, but the way she said it made it seem you are suppose to know something that they aren’t telling you, I could be far fetching but when I get a video together it will probably make sense

alright so this is my guess about Loki's "children" in this game 1st: Atreus will give birth to the Serpent because thats what it looks like on the Mural at the end of the game. 2nd: Instead of Atreus giving birth to Fenrir, he will turn into a wolf becoming Fenrir himself whenever he wants. (its kind of foreshadowed by when he asks Kratos if he can turn into a wolf) 3rd: Sleipnir wont be born from Atreus, he will most likely already exist by the time we get to see Odin. And last but not least Hel. I think she will be an already established villain who will have nothing to do with Atreus/Loki. Something like in the Marvel Thor movie.

yeah man but I have the feeling that we wont get to see most of the gods in the next game because all of the main ones need character development and if the game is as long as this one then I dont see it happening. It would be something like God of War 3 where we went on god killing rampage. In other words Quantity vs Quality.

All good but there is a part where mimir say that the great winter would come in 100 years . But kratos changed something and it is happening now , so intead of the classic mithology in with loki/athreus has childs that bring ragnarok and fights gods, we have another timeline. Totally different from original of mithology this story will show a new ragnarok im sure . So don't think too much about loki adult and his childs cause i think they will not appear in next gow

Now I want a mod where it’s just tall Atreus as kratos and a small snake boi in the place of Atreus.

So in another timeline where Jormugandr get "punched", there were no kratos or atreus at that time? Not sure I understand how this game timeline/alternate universe works.

Domenick boucher you mean his father Loki was there not kratos cause kratos died by Thor's hand/hammer. it's easy to understand. Loki grows up becomes his dad kratos died so the serpent never met kratos so he never looked familiar like Atreus did(cause he is his dad) so only Loki existed in the future for him to know as his dad not kratos cause he was dead.

Domenick boucher well the serpent is a prime example. he remembers Atreus cause he is his father but not kratos so it is highly Likely that he is dead in the future and will not return as hel here is different than the one he knows he was able to leave because he was still alive but the souls in hell have no physical body and the image on the wall shows kratos dead in Atreus arms when he is still a child with Thor's hammer in his head. so it is highly likely that kratos will die and I know someone will say fate isn't set kratos proved that and Ragnarok did not count on kratos minor said that but his wife who was a giant even the guardian of them knew the story to the end and even kratos knows he is going to die as he saw the wall. plus he says in the game that Faye can be unwritten but he has been wrong the whole game. he said that the serpent was not the size of mustard but Freya proved him wrong he said the timetravel with the snake was impossible but there the serpent is. and the end credit scene shows Thor at their house so it's clear kratos will die fighting Thor to protect his son and stay dead in this realm and Atreus will take up his giant name of Loki and start the tale of Ragnarok just like in Norse mythology and maybe bring his father back at the end of it and go to Egypt to handle the gods as the director has said that they want. trilogy in Norse and one in Egyptian.

I wouldn’t call this proof, it’s proof that they may have met in the future, but not that Atreus is the father

As soon as I found out who atreus was going to be, I thought back to when the serpent said his voice sounded familiar and knew. High school mythology finally came in handy lol

As jormungandr has already seen ragnarok, he's probably referring to a part Atreus plays in it-- maybe he ends it to save the gods or maybe causes it

so jormungadr does not speak a dead language, but an future language?

It’s a paradox loop. Jormungadr speaks it because of Atreus but learned it from jormungandr.

I hope they find it to be true in the next game although we just low key had 3 generations of Kratos bloodline all great warriors bent on killing gods 😂

Are you stupid? Loki is also not the son of a Greek God in the mythology. So something is clearly amiss. and HE IS KRATOS' SON. This is really stupid.Loki is the son of Fárbauti and Laufey in mythology. Here is the Son of a giant and a Greek God Kratos. I don't think they LITERALLY did the mythology.

It can also be seen at the end of the game. When Kratos looks at his “death”, a snake comes out of Atreus.

Can't wait for the sequel where you play as Atreus and use the world sized snake to knock down chains or solve puzzles.
