Project YZ-E | YZ250 Electric Dirt Bike QS138 EM-260 Conversion Part 6

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Got the Motor mount tabs welded in place directly on the frame. Installed the Electro & Co QS138 V3 EMX 25kW Kit with the EM-260 Controller on the 2006 Yamaha YZ250. Bike is pretty much finished with the exception of the battery at this point. I do a lot of Razor mini electric dirt bike builds, so why not build something similar but at a MUCH LARGER scale this time?

    Hi Pat, MauiPat here. I;m doing the same conversion with the same kit from Electro & Co. I'm using a CRF250L 2014 vintage. Got my kit a little more than a week ago, and now have my motor mounts fabricated. Painting the spacers and brackets and will reinstall, hopefully tomorrow. My bjke is dual sport, so I also have to deal with the lights, horn, turn signals, and speedometer. Most fun I've had I quite awhile. Got the Samsung 60 ah battery and hoping for a range in excess of 60 miles.Thanks for your videos, they'er a lot of help, and encouragement. Thanks! Also I'm videoing my build and putting them on my KZread channel: Pat McGuinness, Aloha Pat

    I don't really have any experience with these kits but I know in general, speed controllers give off a lot of heat when used for extended periods of time, just thought of that when I saw foam cause it might melt due to the heat. Again, no experience with these kits so I may be wrong

    The bottom and back side of the air box are box ventilated since this was originally an intake air box afterall. Thank you for bringing that to my attention, I will monitor and iterate (if needed.)

    A skif plate 1/2 way the down tube and swoop under the frame rails will keep the.motor protected. There a guy on YT with a E-RM Suzuki has a great build, and 3 CAD VIDEO look it up.

    So much GTR content lol Really looking forward to the battery review and install. I'm looking to upgrade a couple razors to lithium. Have my pocket mod running Ryobi 36v, but those aren't cost effective for four different bikes.

    My other passion is automotive performance.. had an R33 GTR myself, along with a few other turbocharged contraptions.. The ryobi 36v is a good quick power adder option, though very short range and for the little bikes. Hopefully my new batteries come in today/tomorrow!

    Thanks! You would not, there’s still ventilation below and behind the air box. I just wanted to cover the hole where water can get in when I’m trail riding.

    Not sure putting closed-cell foam around your controller is wise how is it supposed to dissipate heat if you wrap it in insulation?

    Hopefully you don't have heat problems with your controller wrapped in foam.

  • @PatOutdoors

    @PatOutdoors

    Hopefully not, it's not fully wrapped. The airbox is also not fully sealed, still vented top rear corners and at the bottom. Will monitor temps and iterate (if needed.) Appreciate the input

  • @shaner.5

    The foam will also hold all the heat, bad idea in my opinion. A better idea might be to have that heatsink stick out the back of the air box or sandwich the air box with another piece of aluminum and the controller to pull that heat away, continuous current makes tons of heat. DC to AC conversion makes heat. Heat kills electronics.
