Project Econoline | Rear Lift | baja grocery getter DIY part 2

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is part 2 in lifting my 2001 Ford Econoline. The kit is the Baja Grocery Getter 5" lift from Weldtec Designs.
I did this entire lift over several weekends by myself. This was a very straight forward process, and didn't require much more than a jack, jackstands, and a decent socket set. I managed to disassemble the stock suspension with just a breaker bar, but reassembled everything using an pneumatic impact gun.

    Flex head ratchet wrench makes those shock top nuts easy peasy ! 👍🏼. I just never use ‘crescent’ wrenches anymore. Head is too big, and they lose adjustment ‘hold’ at the worst time 😫 Great Content, my Man ! What’s the Tip on those molded mud guards ?? Been looking for some, and haven’t found any …. 😳

    My ratchet kit was in between sizes for that nut which was a major bummer. Those mud guards were on it when we bought it used 19 years ago. Thanks for watching!

    Guess there was enough room in the lines. The pinion bearing were going before the lift. About to pull it out and do new ones. Would you do the carrier bearings too? I'm going to leave them if they sound ok.

    Hey man I just changed my rear shocks on my Econoline and yeah that job sucks! I got some ratcheting wrenches it helped a good bit. Do you have any pooling in the back of the van in the rain guard gutters when it rains now that it sits higher in front? Watch out for rust damage long term if so and maybe grind a new channel to release the water out the back. I believe the manufacturer plan was to have all the water from the rain channels go down the front.

    ratchets help for me too. I was camping in the rain and noticed some water in the back. For me the problem was a failed seal on the 3rd brake light. I sealed it and so far it seems to have fixed the problem.

    Looks like the rear lift was easier than front? How much would a place charge to install that lift kit? I dont have all those tools, lifts, grinders etc

  • @Jbmongold

    The rear was pretty easy (minus the upper shock mount bolts) Not really sure what a place would charge for labor, but it's a bit of a process.

    Did you change your rear end gears? If not, how much power loss did you get with the bigger tires?

  • @Jbmongold

    @Jbmongold

    4 ай бұрын

    I didn't not change gears and it really drives the same. My van has the 9.75 axle with 3.55 gears and a limited slip. If I put on 35" tires then I'd probably change gears, or pull a 3.73 from a salvage yard

  • @Jbmongold

    I would recommend the option with new leaf springs instead of blocks. I have the block lift and mine has a slight sag in the rear

    Those are 33"x12.5" and no they did not fit before the lift
