Production in West Midlands of British Army's new Boxer vehicle begins

Production for the British Army's new Boxer armoured vehicle is under way in Telford, Shropshire.
The first welding on the first of 260 vehicles to be manufactured for the Army took place in the West Midlands, with around three a month set to be produced.
In total, the Army has ordered 623 Boxers, with the first vehicles set to be delivered next year.

I don’t agree that it’s positive news it will take another 7 years to fulfil the order. To the contrary it’s dreadful news and the procurement team need sacking! So, an export market would be totally out of the question then? Any capacity in the UK to build new indigenous light armoured recce/utility vehicles that could compete with the Hummer Sabre? ...Or You could buy 4/5 of them for the price of a jackal...

BOXER is the best 8x8 Wheel-Tank in the world with multifunctional possibilities. We are proud that our german tank will also build in uk from experts for the british army. It is interessting to know that the german army will change the strukture of field army. In future the german army have 3 different kind of troops. 1. light combat units (like paratroopers etc.) 2. middle combat units 3. heavy combat units. The middle combat units will only be equipped on wheel-based vehicles and the BOXER will be the main weapon system in various variants. From wheeled-IFV with a 30mm machine cannon, troop carrier and up to 155mm wheeled artillery (RCH155). It is a big change in german army but I love the new middle combat units. The reason production is slow is to keep parts and replacements available after 6 years then you got training and ammo production that needs happen too. Think about it, the factory closed in 10 years you need to replace 10 destroyed boxers. You will not have a replacement available either you spend a fortune reopening the factory or new versions from somewhere else. It is best to try and balance production to as close as possible the vehicle life span.

No details relating to quantity, cost, timeline or any contractual status was given. Basically they did nothing and are just buying the one that they partially build ... Artec had signed agreements with UK suppliers, this contributing to the fact that 60% by value of the MIV contract will be done in Britain, along with final assembly of the MIVs at facilities already owned by the consortium.
