    Are there other possbilites when it comes to texturing it or just the one you showed? And about that, to what do you connect that gradient ramp map after?

  • @XoioDe

    @XoioDe

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi! Oh, you can obviously do any kind of mapping technique that you see fit. For terrains I would always propose that the topology also has something to do with the shading, that's why I "reuse" the node that I use for the displacement for the shading. But apart from that you can plug that anywhere. Alternatively you can also make use of some Ambient Occlusion Node, but they are a little more intense in computing and possibly somewhat noisy. As far as I remember I plugged the Gradient into the diffuse shader. Mostg people doon't know that you can "map" the gradient ramp, so that's what I wanted to showcase. Good luck with your further development!

  • @XoioDe

    @XoioDe

    6 ай бұрын

    It helps if you know roughly how big the terrain should be from start. Max should generally not get slower by the size of terrain, while the polygon count should be kept in consideration. But the width of roads is something you can find out. It surely helps to have a smaller test terrain to get familiar with the process.

    Thanks for the positive feedback. Concerning your last point: Hard to tell from afar. From my experience the scale of the noise could be too small, which results in very weird spikes. Otherwise in general the scales are off. I normally avoid scaling stuff directly in Max, because you don't see it and stuff starts to behave really strange. Hope that gave some insight.
