    There is a Maxscript out there somewhere to specifically optimize and quadify terrain prior to a turbosmooth. I believe it's called Populate Terrain. Great tutorial!

    When I try this and click on "Terrain", the process consumes my contour splines (I cannot select them afterwards). Anyone know how I can solve this? Can the terrain lie on its own layer?

    If using 2022, drawing a freehand spline over the contours would be way faster - then add a normalize spline and space out the vertices evenly to smooth it out. An HSDS modifier over the mesh will smooth triangles far better than turbosmooth.

    When i continua holding my left button it doesn't manipulate the spline.

    Hey Atilla, try to check what settings you have in the lower right corner of Create > Line

    Turbosmoothing triangular geometry is not a smart and typology correct approach. Personally trying to get equal amount of points at each spline, then use spline cross section, then surface modifier and then turbosmooth the quads. Probably the best approach to maintain all the flexibility of a simple geometry. Re-quadding the triangular geometry might be other possible approach.

    Simply adding an HSDS modifier to smooth triangles works as well, if quads aren't important for other reasons.

    There is no difference in this method when using 3ds Max 2022
