Similar with me! I am a 62 year old woman, and since menopause I cannot believe how dry my nails get. I was depressed about my sad-looking nails until I found this wonderful channel, and have learned so much. I always apply oil after washing hands, and apply it again at night, and now I can grow my nails out a bit again, and they do not look ugly and dry when short. 😀

I am so glad you mentioned the thing about wrapping the free edge - I always have short nails (and an extended hyponychium) so wrapping the free edge usually means I'm getting polish on my skin. If wrapping the edge isn't really a big deal on shorter nails, then I'm happily tossing that step out. 😆 Thank you for another awesome and relaxing video. ❤

I’ve been watching you and Mr SL for a while now and I always walk away with something new. My mom would do her nails when I was a little girl and when I was in Jr High I started doing my own. I occasionally will go have a manicure but mostly I do my own. Getting a pedicure once a month is my gift to myself. Thank you for showing us how and why you do what you do. We’ll be in Spain next year for the FIFA Conference I’d love to stop in and get my nails done 😊

Currently using Essie nail polish with a base and top coat of nailtek strengthener. I did gel for about 6 months before developing an allergy, but it did give my nails a chance to grow. I also noticed that I am much more meticulous in applying regular polish now. Following some of the same rules used for gel application helps a lot! It lasts longer and my nails are growing and overall much stronger.

What a pretty combination! I just ordered several soft DD pinks but not Mind Your Mani, however I think they will be close enough. I’ve had Stardust a while and love it. Anna, the education you provide is invaluable, thank you! I’ve been to dozens of nail salons over the years. Even the high end ones want to cut the proximal nail fold, calling it cuticle. So frustrating. Needless to say, this is why I’m doing my own nails now. I do have damage to grow out but I’ve ordered many of the products you recommend (I used your links, thank you!) I love your videos, thank you! I never tire of watching you work and listening 💖

Hi, I'm really enjoying your videos, they're so wonderful to watch and really informative. I was wondering about something. If I feel like not applying a colour on my nails for a little while, but don't own a transparent nail polish, apart from my base coat and my top coat, can I apply one of those? Which one might be better? (the top coat is glossier than the base coat, by the way). Or should I apply both? I'm curious, lol.

I was wondering, do you have any men who come to you for nail polish? I am a 66 year old male who used to chew my fingernails horribly. Many times to the point where they would bleed. A few years back I was finally able to break that terrible habit and my nails began to grow. I got to the place where they were of considerable length, not quite square but not quite rounded. Then one day I tried clear polish and loved it. I became very good at applying polish on my nails even using my non dominant hand. I have had a lot of women compliment me on how well they were done. Eventually I started trying different colors, nudes, beige, light browns. I have come to the point where I just don't feel quite right if I go more than a couple of days without it. I am married, 32 years now. It took her a little to get used to and while I won't say she loves it, although she does say that they look really nice with the clear polish on which usually includes a very sheer pink to help cover the discoloration, she is accepting and doesn't mind too much. I know it may not be extremely common but I think there are more men out there who either do or would if people didn't think it so odd. Not into tattoos or piercings but I know I will always be hooked on nail polish. I enjoy watching your channel. They you for the advice you put out.

i keep my nails quite long and i still dont find that wrapping the edge makes much of a difference! i only wear a polish for 6 days anyway (manicures on sundays and then i wait to apply a fresh colour until monday night to give them a little breather!) so maybe would notice the effect if i was trying to keep my colour around for a longer amount of time? but as it is, i also skip that step :)

@@TheSalonLife Anna, OPI Nature Strong has a crazy beautiful shimmer polish named “Mind-full of Glitter”. What’s so special about it is the unique color combo: delicate bits of gold glitter + delicate bits of pink glitter. I imagine Stardust having pink glitter in it! It is just done so lovely - even glitter size, not chunky and obnoxious, with very little feel to it, if at all. Also, do you have any opinion or knowledge on Retinol used in nail polish (as a strengthener, I believe)? I was looking at a polish by NailsInc - maybe it was their 45 second top coat - and it said something about having Retinol. Just thought I’d see if you have heard about it. Ty!

I had both ring fingers, thumbs and one middle finger damaged, what I’m afraid is beyond repair. Long story short, I had dip powder, very short. I went to a new place with a friend and the nail tech would not soak off the powder, he insisted on dremeling, as he was burning me I kept pulling my hand away, he snatched it back, yelled at me and clamped down hard. That was months ago and I’m left with destroyed nail plates from the apex with just a tiny bit of nail left and literally no idea what to do. I’ve tried nearly everything that I researched online. I believe that my nails are gone for good. I wish that I could find someone who would direct me , at this point I don’t care what it would cost. EDITING my comment to add that I loved the simple, clean and classic manicure. Also, I followed the link and saw that you offer personal consolations, I happily submitted!!

This is done I believe to better "see" the cuticle and the skin fold when doing a dry manicure. I don't recommend doing dry, e-file manicures by DIYers. If you care for your nails it's simply not necessary and you can totally destroy your nails unless you are highly trained. The manicures like I show I do on my nails is what I recommend for DIYers (and that is how I do my own manicures)

@@TheSalonLife yes… my nails are exactly like your client’s nails in the video. My thumbs are fine the rest all are bendy. When I watched the video I was happy to learn I’m not alone😉 I used both. Took polish off yesterday- did a warm oil soak, today I applied OPI RM, let it soak in for 10 mins, then applied Mavala K+. I’m thinking about putting a coat of OPI nail envy on before doing a Dazzle Dry mani to see what sort of results I get.

I know you were hinting at it but why re soft nails a problem?

When the nails are too soft they don't hold polish very well and generally they are weak and tend to peel. A good balance of flexibility and hardness is optimal. This is why I suggested for the client to use a hardener if she wants to harden her nails a bit. It's not a life and death situation :))

@@TheSalonLife Thank you! I used to think having hard nails was what we all needed to have beautiful longer nails. I never let my nails grow out because I thought my nails weren't hard enough. I recently learned that it may be more beneficial to have softer nails vs teflon stong nails. Your simple explanation cleared up a lot for me...being somewhere in between may be best...makes sense. Over the last few months I've been doing my own manicures and keeping my hands nourished with a mix of jojoba and vitamin eye gel and my nails and hands look so much better. I also limit water exposure as much as possible. Thanks again.

Unfortunately I can't get a manicure on my nails even if a nail tech did a manicure on my nails. It looks stupid since I barely have any nails, when I do most of the nail sticks off my fingers, gets dirt under them easily, they break. If my hands and fingers were longer especially my fingers I would likely have most of my nail on the finger itself. If I ever get my nails done it's at a salon getting the acrylic nails put on. Wish my nails were mostly on my finger itself.
