There is perhaps no more of a classic Indian takeout dish than chicken tikka masala. With help from Chef Palak Patel, we challenged Andy Baraghani to make his own chicken tikka masala faster than it takes for delivery to arrive. Lmao Andy was so competitive his heart dropped when the guy said 10 minutes
you need to understand most, almost all indian places have their curries ready .they just cook the meat fresh and add it, also the rice is pre cooked. they said 30 mins because its depends how many orders they have and where is the location. so the fact that Andy mad a good tikka masala in 30 mins with rice in Fantatstic!

Exactly! Curries is the kind of sauce that does very well to simmer a long time allowing every flavor to blend.

gotta have somebody on standby in the room to go get the takeout when it arrives, while the chef continues to cook! every second counts. this is proper science.

while you're at it, maybe have that person plate it while the chef is plating theirs as well, so we can see which one is plated first (re: Andy having his food "finished" but not plated)

Agreed, what is the point of making him plate it as well within the time limit? Personally I think the time estimate the restaurant gives them is the official "window" of time, or the moment someone else finishes plating it up for them.
The way he turns red when he tasted his dish is the most wholesome thing I've ever seen this month.
The pettiness Andy has when he sets the plate down and the timer goes off, is what I am living for!!! 😍😍

I’d love to see Andy make Tikka Masala when he’s not in a time crunch! All the reference he kept making had me saying “I’d watch that video, and I’m make that Tikka Masala!”

I'd guess he use the same method as he uses here ( except for the rice which he mentioned and other parts of the chicken probably breast, ( though i'd prefer thighs myself ) and have it marinate overnight if not longer and have it simmer in the sauce for 30 min maybe 45 min / 1 hour before serving. that's what i would do myself
Andy you did great at 30mins here in India too it atleast takes around 1.5hr to make it on an average

The beloved BA we know may have imploded but Andy's attitude and pleased-with-himself smiles are an unwavering comfort.

Poor Andy. He's so competitive, but let's face it ... he's good at what he does, and he's right ... you really do need more than 30 minutes to make this dish and make it well.
i love getting to see andy gassing himself up about his dish. you can see cooking makes him feel so proud of himself. i love that cooking can do that for us :)
I think Andy finished in time. The restaurant didn’t plate his food for him. But he used those two mins. after the call to plate... so technically he did finish making it before it was delivered.

He added ghee to the rice after the call. In my book adding an ingredient is not plating.

that's a good point, he didn't do anything to his food that he didn't also have to do to the delivery food. (except add ghee which kinda invalidates things)

I hope he tipped well. Waiting for someone even 30 seconds is a long time. Try sitting on hold on the phone for 30 seconds. I do feel he beat them if he didn't stop and plate it. Since he had to plate the delivery as well.

He mixed the gii in the rice though, aswell as anything else they did that he cut. plus they had to put stuff in containers so that takes the same amount of time as to plate. also you know.. .driving to his location. he did not finish before delivery arrives, so sadly its over.

I made this just following the video (without a recipe or quantities) and it turned out so good! Thank you so much Andy 👏 I even impressed my mother in law and she won an award for her tikka.
Fun fact: chicken Tikka Masala is a British dish (it was created in the UK in the 70s/80s in Indian restaurants, cooked by Bangladeshi to suit the English palate)🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

at least for romance languages it would look exactly like it does to you since the meaning of "poor" usually extends beyond material wealth and "wait" usual meaning is wait and not "serving" like a waiter or waitress

Back in the day, I purchased several of Rachel Ray's 30 minute cookbooks. I don't think I ever cooked one of the recipes in under 45 minutes.

I have never felt as akin to a celebrity chef than I did watching Andy fight his way out of the weeds
There are some flavors that take time to build on that you cannot procure in under 30 minutes. Restaurants usually have the curry already made as well the rice so those flavors are probably deeper and more rich. But for 30 minutes I think you did an excellent job and would definitely eat your food.
I just loved that, I really enjoyed seeing this.

Love this , you should do beating delivery versus taking your time to compare . Or 30 minute meals versus say an hour doing it . I’d like to see Andy make this dish while taking his time 👌🏾

I feel like this isn’t balanced between Andy and a restaurant. In a restaurant they have the onions sliced, rice is already prepared, marinated chicken is ready; just doesn’t quite equal out in my eyes. But that’s just me. 🤷🏽♂️

Isn’t the whole point ‘can I make this quicker than ordering a delivery’. In that case no one would have the ingredients prepared. His herbs and spices were all laid out for him in little dishes which I think is already a good start.

You can pass the curry through sieve if you want more smooth curry.. and moreover I felt it was not ajwain in rice it was cumin seeds.. it wasn’t clear but I am pretty it was cumin seeds..

I’m very lucky to live in a neighborhood where a lot of Indian people live and therefore, some of the best Indian food! I could try to make it but they make theirs so heavenly, I could never!
That's me on a regular basis... lofi music is my way to stay calm when cooking😅
I think the Indian food's made in other countries are comparatively more different because its more of an improvised version done to match the tastes of that place..
He 100% beat the delivery, plus his food looks 10000x better
