Elvis was pretty much broke when he died. Priscilla built Graceland into an empire, saved Elvis' legacy, while raising a child and even found time to do some acting. Priscilla Presley is a real woman.

it’s profoundly heart-wrenching to hear this beautiful woman speak. one can just tell that she was groomed by the manner in which she discusses her early outfits and pictures, with a rare focus on herself but predominantly centered around ‘what elvis liked’ and ‘what elvis wanted.’ even reading her book deeply broke my heart.

He met her when she was 14, and they started seeing each other when she was 17. Then she moved in with him when she was 18. I’m not saying I agree with the 10 year age gap, because I don’t, but face the facts. She wasn’t a child when they started dating. Times have changed so we can now see how wrong this might have been, but we shouldn’t point fingers to Elvis, this was probably how he was brought up. How the entire 1960s was brought up.

This was so kind of Priscilla to take the time and care in explaining all of these pictures to the fans. I enjoyed each one and learned a lot. Am almost a lifetime Elvis fan, born in 1956 and raised on his records, which my mama was always playing. Saw him in person four times. Love how Priscilla honored him and carried on his legacy for future generations. She is both graceful and gracious. Appreciate the care his family takes of his legacy, especially Graceland.

Clothing is more expensive and lower quality, even if you pay more for it. Prioritising function over form, smaller fashion trend cycles due to the internet resulting in things such as microtrends, bullying kids for dressing even slightly differently so when they're adults they're less inclined to spend the money they now have on statement pieces, encouraging people to copy fashion icons to stay on trend compared to setting trends and having people copy it in their own way, I can go on and on...

I would probably say because of poverty. Back in the 50s - 70s it was pretty rare to be poor and the majority of people where in middle class Meaning people could make events out of simple things, they were able to afford fancy coats and pearls and furniture, sure after saving a few days works worth of pay but it was doable. Still you can see rich people dressed up, going to galas and wear expensive jewelry but normal people now a days can't really afford that.

That was fun and informative. Thank-you Priscilla. I am glad that the movie Elvis was successful and liked by the family. Now people wear sweatpants to church.

@Matthew Ramsey Your comment made me smile. "I get it Elvis!!" that`s exactly what I`ve always thought. She is a real lady and a very warm soul. It`s such a pity that Elvis took her for granted and didn`t give her room to be and to develop herself when they were together. It`s easy to play around when there are no consequences to your actions. When he realized that she was "The One", it was too late, and she finally left him. She certainly taught him a lesson (not that that was her goal...). But this lesson came at a high price for him, her, Lisa-Marie, and all family members. I love Priscilla, always have. She has been through a lot and it`s a shame that many Elvis fans just never understood how difficult it has been for her to have loved a man who could never have been just hers and hers alone. But in the end, it doesn`t matter how many other women Elvis liked and loved, she is the one wearing the well-deserved crown!

Her repeatedly mentioning how insistent he was that they always dress up, even though she says she likes it, makes me kinda sad. It reminds me of how my grandpa was with my grandma. He NEVER ONCE saw her without makeup on and was very strict about her appearance. The fear was sort of passed onto my mom, and I’ve only seen her without makeup on a handful of times. My sister and I are also overly self conscious and fearful about leaving the house without makeup on. He’s dead now and she talks about how much she hated it all the time. She repeats stories a lot (lol) and whenever she describes how she used to get ready for bed and wake up, it reminds me of that scene in Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Not being able to just be relaxed and human without having to put on a show sounds exhausting and kinda distant, definitely not intimate enough for how I would personally want to be with a life partner, like someone I would expect to be able to be 100% bare and vulnerable with. Not being able to just exist as is and be comfortable in my own house sounds like a cage.

Love Me Tender was on, I cried because the character Elvis played died. GI Blues with the puppets, Blue Hawaii, my daddy instilled my sister, brother and me some of the best music eras there ever was. My parents had tickets to go see Elvis in Greensboro, NC but my dad sold the tickets.
