Prinsu was a bit misleading in this video in regards to the ease of compressing the rivnut to put it generously. Using the coupler and washers is quite difficult and why they do not just install them at the factory with the proper tools is beyond me. Anyways after some trial and error here is the technique that worked for me - it is easier as a two person job: 1. Set up the rivnut, washers, and coupler as shown in the video. Use a 1/2 inch wrench to hold the coupler and a 1/2 inch socket wrench to turn the bolt. 2. The key to getting the rivnut to start to compress rather than hopelessly spin is to have have one person hold the coupler with the 1/2 inch wrench while the other person turns the bolt and as you begin to turn the bolt, tilt the rivnut slightly away from flush to help it grip and start to compress. 3. Once it starts to compress, flatten it back to flush. This may require a light tap with a hammer or rubber mallet depending on how much compression has started. 4. Continue having one person hold the coupler while the other turns the bolt until the rivnut is fully compressed. It will take a significant amount of force to continue to compress the rivnut. Hope this helps a bit and hope the rest of the install goes more smoothly than how it has started… Seriously, Prinsu, just pre install these rivnuts - it would be a breeze with the proper tool.

Yea I’ve gone in circles trying to get the rivnuts in. Absolutely bent n destroyed coupler trying and now need to drive around town trying to find another. Absolutely ridiculous they made them this way or at least didn’t compress in shop. Funny how even in vid they cut to a completed compressed rivnut. Just ridiculous

This always do short videos that make it look easy. I had a hell of time installing the load panels with the plastic trim, they made it seem easy in video. I had to hammer it with a mallet. In the video they slide it in by hand like and just mention it can be hard first time.

Just had to do this for the second time - Figured it out last time after a lot of trial and error, and it was no easier the second time. The fact that this process is meant for the customer to do themselves, and this is the only instruction, is absolutely wild. And the cherry in top is that when you finally get the riv nuts compressed and the awning up, compressing the butterfly clamps is incredibly hard and the cheap metal bends with minimal pressure.

I agree 💯. No physical instructions included so you have to comb their site or KZread for installation help. The plus nuts they gave me with my kit did not just drop into their holes. They were slightly too big. So I had to tap them in with a hammer. Why not just install the damn plus nuts or weld a threaded barrel already onto it so all we have to do is thread the retaining bolt on is beyond logic.

This is absolutely hilarious that they breeze over the rivnut process. Here’s what worked. -Setup is the same as in the video. - I have a ‘hex shanked socket driver’ adapter for my impact driver. If you google that term, you’ll see what I’m talking about. - Hold the hex coupler with your 1/2” wrench and drive the bolt into the rivnut. It should deform before it can spin. - Though a good idea, when I tried to lean the bolt at an angle for it to bite, I ended up with a angled rivnut and had to drill it out. Good luck. This is ridiculous that they just didn’t assemble the rivnuts before they send them out.

Tons of comments on the rivnut install. Having worked with rivnuts before (lucky) I can say they work exactly as they are supposed to. Many people saying the install tool just spins. It’s important to hand tighten the install bolt first as tight as possible. Or it’ll spin. It’s a basic rivnut after all. I do agree that they should come installed. That’s a fail. Second fail is the common complaint that the space created by the tops of the rivnuts makes the clamping down next to impossible. This is absolutely correct. Horrible design. My awning hasn’t arrived yet but so far (considering the price) I’m very disappointed. My rack is fantastic. These mounts are poor. If I could do it over I would totally pass on these and just find a basic fixed mount. Don’t waste the huge money on these. Seriously.

So, I'm back to post how I made these brackets work. First of all it's going to take some gorilla cranking to compress the riv nuts. It's not as easy as the video shows. Secondly, throw those damn 5/16 bolts that go in the riv nuts away. The neck isn't long enough to allow the brackets to mate once tightened because there isn't enough clearance between the bolt head and the bracket body to allow the brackets to slide into position. You'll find the bolts at Lowe's. Just make sure to match the threads and ensure the smooth neck on your new bolt is longer than the oem. This will raise the bolt head taller in the bracket once tightened and allow the brackets to mate. As for locking the latches, good luck with that. I haven't been able to do it for fear of bending then. Piss poor engineering and the last purchase I make from Prinsu. Damn slugs don't care.

So finally got my mounts after waiting almost 2 months. Still no instructions other than this video. In the video they show the hex spacer slide over the bolt to install the rivnuts. The one they sent me did not slide over, it was the exact size of the bolt and screwed on. So it did not work, I had to find some other metal spacers I had from skid plates do the install... I don't understand why they are not pre-installed, then they don't even send the right part to install. Then in the video they show zinc bolts that go into the rivet nut, the threads on it only go so far so it will stop at the correct place when you put it in and stay in place. I did not get these, just regular bolts, which I don't understand how they will not back off without a nut just partially bolted in. Also in the video he mentions it works with the load panels. Well, I had to take everything completely apart to trim the plastic so the carriage bolts would slide in far enough in. Be aware of that, not as easy as the video makes it seem. So basically, wrong hardware, so only half installed. I suspect this was the reason for the wait and they sent different hardware to get it out, but clearly not the right hardware from the video. There is no parts list, so it is difficult to go buy my own hardware, and not wait, because i know it will take forever... Hope this helps someone

EXTREMELY terrible design. DO NOT BUY THESE. The cam locks that for the basis of the qd system are total garbage. The tolerance on these is such that the cam locks are extremely difficult to get to lock over center. As a result you basically need to put in a ton of force, or use pliers, to turn these cams to lock. The twist knobs on the cams are made of utter garage metal, that contorted and bent even under hand pressure as tightening. When using pliers to actually get the damn things to lock, the twist tabs deformed so much they were popping out of thier pivots. You might be able to install and remove this thing once, but don't get any ideas about "quick release". Save your cash.

Terribly over simplified instructional video. Missing many steps and close ups.

why wouldn't you pre install the Riv nuts for the customer? Would just make sense since they are finicky to do without a proper riv nut tool
