Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Today we are checking out one of, if not the cheapest free standing 270/batwing awnings in australia! I've had the OCAM Premium Wing Awning on my 4WD for just over a month so this isn't my full review, but we are going to show off everything about the awning and of couse how much it costs! I think this could be one of the best camping mods i've ever done to my 4x4

My young fella has one of these, along with the side opening OCAM RTT, could not be happier with it, he christened both of them with a week on Frasier, not a single problem. I helped him mount and set them up, I was more than impressed with the quality and build.
I absolutely agree with the fact that if an awning is quick to set up you'll use it more. Might invest in this one! Cheers Pat and team

Well done on doing a thorough and well presented review. I totally agree, a few years ago the prices of free standing awnings where through the roof. So when I got my first 270 awning, I bought one that needed poles (Batwing). But I've since replaced that with a free standing version nearly 2 years ago. The biggest differece I've found is I use it a lot more than my previous awning, for exactly the same reason you pointed out - so much easier (& quicker) to setup and pack away. I'm like you when camping, I'm all for easy and quick setup and pack. 👍

There is 1 negative that will only piss you off when the rain hits. The awning is great value, yes but there is a huge gap between the car and the awning at the hinge point. add some wind to the downpour and you will have a river pouring into the sheltered area turning it into a swamp. I will wait and see how it goes for ya Pat, I am looking at a much more expensive 1 as it covers that area 80% better than this unit does. Love ya videos dude, no bullshit here just honesty.

Another great demo and review video. You're a natural. You covered all the bases and hit the nail on the head on the info. The added visual pop-ups to convey your message adds real impact. Great work. 👍👍 I can totally relate to your message. I don't use my 270-degree awning (Rhino-Rack Batwing) as often due to the setup. I now only really set it up at camp if there is a chance of rain. It might mean, it's time to replace it. I'm all for making camping setup and packing quick and easy. 👌👌

Great bit of kit 👌👍 they must have come out of the same factory that makes the drifta 270. I've had a drifta for about 6 months and they are bloody great! Not too heavy and easy as to set up and take down. Drifta do full canvas sheets for walls but I like the walls you have maybe a bit better though probably not as strong. Best mod to do with the tie off strap to the roof rack/tent is get rid of that strap and grab yourself a rope ratchet from Bunnings - they cost about $12 and has a simple hook and ratchet the awning tight. I like em so much I have bought one for each time down point and have a caribeener on one end and the hook on the other. Makes it super easy to tie down and readjust if necessary 👌👌😎😎 The flex on yours is definitely just the way it's mounted to the tent because mine doesn't flex at all. You want to look at gett reinforced brackets. I think drifta do them and they have extra metal to support it. And you want 4 mounts as well more focused to the hinge end. Rob from slacks creek drifta store did a great vid on how to set it up so it doesn't flex. That quality you get for the price is pretty sweet and it makes it much more usable for quick stops. Nothing better than pulling up for a lunch stop and having instant shed 👌👍😎
Great vid again. I note some comments still say not enough coverage. Don't figure! Well go big and get a Bunduawn 360° as we did, but they'll pay for it. We have the 360° unit, love how it shades the whole car from sun, so cool to get into vehicle on sunny day. It's also freestanding and as you pull it around the unit has self erecting uprights lifting awning higher than car roof to avoid water pooling, but we have found we do have to create a hollow with a centre pull ground rope to allow runoff in heavy rains. Unfortunately, even though it's classified as freestanding we found for peace of mind we're compelled to put upright support poles and ropes in, however it is a vast area to catch wind. You'll experience this also I'm guessing, hope you enjoy the convenience as we have, ours also gets utilised more than our previous roll out awning as you had.
Another great video!!! 😁😁The old footage setting up the awning with the Pajero is gold too

They are a game changer, I like anything fast, had mine for 2 years 30 second awning In windy WA you have to be more diligent on tie downs Another big advantage of these you can move your vehicle with it fully deployed as the sun moves it’s shadow That way you’re always in the shade Another excellent review

I picked one up from the wreckers for $50, thought it was a normal awning guess the wreckers did as well. Used it a dozen times but didn't really like it that much after it got hit by a few southerly busters so put it on market place for make a offer it sold within a few minutes for 1000 bucks. I thought the bloke was mad when offered me that much as would have been happy for what I paid for it, then I googled the brand and seen the cost new. Now that I'm not camping out of my 4wd every weekend and using a soft floor camper I wish I had of kept it at least the price has dropped a lot on these so I might buy a new one that's why I'm looking at reviews now.
The addition of the walls are great for wet weather conditions, under a swag etc. Nice
I was not aware of this brand and will now have a look at buying one. Thanks for the good review.
Love it! I hope Ocam are attending this weekend's Brisbane Camp / Caravan show at RNA showgrounds
Such a great channel and always great videos
Great video guys, very informative & helpful for decision making.. 💪🏾👍🏾
Great review mate, I’m definitely looking at one to buy as well as the rooftop tent.
Great looking awning and value for money too look forward to your next review 😊
Thank you Patrick for the comprehensive review, I have been looking at these for some time, the big priced brands and thought the OCAM one I checked out at the Melb 4x4 was just as good, maybe a tad diff in the canvas on the dearer model but hey who can afford that bigger price for what they both can be used for! Thanks mate!
Unreal, definitely will be looking at purchasing one for Christmas holidays
Had mine setup all weekend at splendour in the grass 2022. Never buckled or folded among a battlefield of crippled Gazebos and drenched tents
I purchased a 30 second awning, free-standing 270 back in 2017 and man, what a game changer. Probably the most used accessory on my car to be honest. Even back then it was only $1100. Heavy duty canvass with a sturdy aluminium frame and the wall kit was only a couple of hundred. I have had it in scorching heat in the Pilbara western australia, wet season storms in the kimberly and all the way to the east coast with torrential wind and rain and its still going strong. Seriously, if this thing ever breaks, I'll buy another one because I have definitely got my monies worth.

Thought that was you at Goulburn weir.. plenty of water around then, must be crazy now. Been looking at 270 awnings. This is now on the list. Thanks.
i love this, gotta say though that i'd like it more if the wall was in segments and connected with zippers, and if you could zip those clear felxible plastic windows into the windows instead of the fly so you can see the outside without worry about rain. Kinda like the Thule panorama
Excellent review mate cheers
Crikey that’s a really good price for a free standing awning, thanks for the video 😁👍👍
Be interesting to see how those walls go in windy conditions, I currently have an xtm 270 with a wall kit and went camping at bunya mountains and didn’t get any sleep because the walls keep ripping off during the night because it was windy as shit, but that could be because the Velcro is cheap
Bloody great content
Nice introduction to this awning model. Do you have a follow up video, after having used this for a while?
When is the next big trip fellas loved the Fraser vids and the big desert looked unreal camera really doesn’t show big dune any justice

i went the bush wakka extremes darkness best investment ever so easy to use, by reusing my old polls from my old pull out awning i dont need to buy extra support polls for when the wind gets up and i can also use my kings awning tent on it, which is why i went for the bushwakka having 2 straight arms that come out so i could use the awning tent
Definitely a competitive price for a 270 freestanding. I instead went for the Bushwakka Extreme Darkness 270. Quite a bit more expensive but has 900D ripstop nylon over the Ocam having 600D. The frame looks sturdier although it is 8kg heavier. The Bushwakka also has built-in led lighting.
It looks like an awesome set up.. but I often wonder about these sort of things how much rain and or water gets between the rooftop and the body of the car when it's rain I guess it depends on rain direction and wind to I guess. But
great review mate, the 270 degree awning is awesome, very similar to the kings freestanding awning, but they both are quite small . I guess they come in a larger size but if not I dont think id bother getting one. as i like the extra width on the other brand awnings. you say you dont like getting wet if raining but it looks like your new 270 makes getting into your side access rooftop tent more chance of getting a shower by the time you close up your outer door and climb up into your tent. but i must admit it does look great. a credit to Ocam.. big Tick.

Hahahah thanks Stephen! i spose the good thing about it being a little smaller is the weight saving and it looks a little less bulky, but if you need more room, you'd be looking for somthing bigger. I think for the stuff i'm doing it will be fine! excited to see how it goes in the weather ! cheers :)
I would love to see how the the material weathers with heavy rain and wind. I had a kings 270 awning and found material stretched and leaked after a trip o Fraser Island. I would love to see how this weather moving forward.
nice river camp site near the river and great set up
Hi great looking set up, question, how much rain comes in over rear of car with awning up..
I just bought one , im a tradey and your all over it , good on you keep up the good work.
Hi Mate im considering one in due course once i get a roof rack sorted to hold it. I noticed that the bugs and flies can get in via the gaps to the car if using the mesh window walls. Would you fit a double swag under it as well as some free standing tables n chairs etc at the same time?
Looks like a sweet awning set up. How far does the awning come out perpendicularly from the side of your rig? Same at the back.
When it comes to awnings, you simply can't beat KINGS.
I've got a ironman 270 freestanding love it bought it end of last year for $860
i've been using this for almost a year. so far, still holding. just need a new sturdier bracket. the one that comes with it works, just less adjustment room.
Your truck is the main photo for their website!!! very cool
Hey mate, would love an update video on the awning. Looking at buying one currently!
What are your thoughts on the awning now that you’ve had it on for a fair while? Still a good piece of kit?
So how do you get into your roof top tent with the awning fully open?
Cheers mate... I'm lazy, I hate anything that isn't efficient... let me clarify...I'm lazy when it comes to packing up, I'm always excited and motivated once I get some where... thanks for this review mate, greatly appreciated!
That is impressive. How do you access your roof top tent? Through the side, I'm guessing?
How’s the gvm on the 80 going , just pack more stuff on
How did you mount the awning to your RTT? I have a similar Hardshell tent and been trying to see what’s the best way to mount things to the Chanel. Thanks!
Hey, thanks for the review! Do you know if the can be shipped to the US or are available by some retailer here? Thanks!
Great video mate, do you have the link to the walls?
How does the roof rack handle the weight of the tent and awning together in a off road situation.. no mention of Max load rating on the ocam website ?
Support local! Good on ya~! I am sold again! Ocam stuff are reasonably priced!
do you jave a link for the double slider under your freezer? Great awning by the way
What is the type of bracket you used to mount the awning to the slots in your roof top tent?
I bought the Kings version for about $400. The brackets are HUGE and not compatible with a rooftop tent. Had to MacGyver it to get it to mount, buying galvanised brackets from Bunnings, plus slide the tent over a little so it would open properly (tourer x). The side walls are sold individually, and are kinda pricy for what they are. I only bought 2, which was enough to hide from torrential rain. They dont go straight down, but out at an angle which gives you more floor space. I had the standard awning before that, and it bent on the 2nd trip, plus kept falling down with the wind. The 270 is brilliant. Like you said, one hand set up in seconds. Its a bit heavier than the OCAM at 28kgs.
How do you get into the tent when the awning is setup?
Tons of manufacturers out there think being practical means having a ton of features or being the biggest product possible, but for me being practical means it's easy and efficient, this is sick
Well I’m sold ! 👍🏻 nice video mate
How’s that awning going? Any chance of a follow up review vid?

What a great review
Thanks for the review. Is there much of a gap between the car and awning for rain to get through when it’s set up?
@AussieArvos
Жыл бұрын
No worries! All depends on how you mount it, mine is mounted the same as my old king's awning and I never had any issue with that. it's mounted to the channels of the RTT via a bracket so there is a small gap, but it's covered up by the awning cover. I never had an issue with it in the past and in our initial rain tests it's been fine, keen to see how it goes in a torrential downpour with wind, that will be in full review in couple of months 🤙
How do you stop water coming in the large hole where the main hinge is?
I wish more of these awnings covered more of the front of the car, they always cut off at an angle rather than having perpendicular coverage at the front of the awning. There is also significantly less space out to the side of the car that throwing a swag underneath isn’t always possible. If rain and wind come in you can’t drop the awning down , rather you’ll need to setup a massive awning wall and have more to dry afterwards

Can rain get through the space between the tailgate and the awning? Is a rain gutter necessary?
