I think Prince and MJ both made the mistake of falling for the industry created illusion that they were rivals. They both had the same message: L💜VE, heal the world, take care of the poor, take care of children, respect animals as sentient beings, etc. Not only were they born just a few months apart they were both musical and artistic geniuses and black men in America who rose to enormous wealth and power. There are a number of parallels in their lives. I think they were both sent here by God to help humanity ascend from this 3D reality that is dominated by the very same negative souls that in the end took them out. They were different in many ways and yet similar enough to have done something enormously powerful together.

Chelsea Rogers He didn't offer him a shitty role in bad though. when MJ asked him for a duet, the bad song wasn't even completed yet, talkless of what the video should be. if prince said "yes" to the duet, he would've made some contribution of his own and they both would've decided on what they wanted for video storyline. the bad video would be TOTALLY different from the one we have. the video especially wasn't discussed yet BEFORE prince declined. the video was decided AFTER prince declined. they had to work on the video for Michael later, as he sang the song solo. wesley's part was never meant to be prince part. even though prince stated this. he might have been joking. listen to what wesley said about that too. they weren't being real. and the song would've been a lash out to the outer force not against each other... such as Janet and Michael's duet.

2 hugely successful, young stars feeling competitive at the height of their career is nothing new. I'm sure there's plenty of those in every generation, including right NOW. But what I thought is the loveliest and most touching, is that Prince was performing Jackson 5 songs at his concerts after MJ's passing. That just says it all. I'm sure MJ was smiling from above. How awesome would it have been if Prince and Michael had done a tour together? Just the two of them, singing each other's hits together, all acoustic. No fancy choreo, special effects, or dancing girls, just the two of them. Prince on guitar and piano, and the both of them revisiting/sharing their iconic musical catalogues, and memories. this video starts out by saying the media "started comparing the two when they started getting famous (thats hilarious). i ADORE them both, but for me there was 10 whole years between Prince & Michael. . First i'll say, There absolutely is no bigger Prince, Michael or Stevie fan than me, nowhere on the planet... when i was around 8, i discovered "Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5" that had a little song on it called I WANT YOU BACK.. i love the whole album from Zip-a-dee-doo-dah to Nobody.. Who's loving you.. The J5 was my religion.. & then the ABC album sealed the deal.. i still till today listen to all of that.. its timeless. i discovered the Jackson 5 when there were was no such thing as CDs.. & before cassette tapes.. i had the Albums, i watched the J5 cartoons when they were on TV (saw the "Goin' Back to Indiana" special that introduced the saturday morning cartoon). i had a neighbor name "Cookie" & i borrowed here Git It Together & Dancing Machines albums EVERY WEEK that basically were mine, even though they belonged to her, lol.. i grew up learning how to dance from Michael.. when he was a "Dancing Machine" WAY BEFORE the moonwalk... i started digging Prince in my first year in college.. Controversy & 1999 CDs were my everyday Soundtracks.. Prince's FIRST album "for you" came out in 1978.. the next year Michael Jackson who had just finished doing The Wiz, in 1979 dropped "Off the Wall".. with "Don't Stop 'til you get enough".. "Rock with you".. & all'a that. SOOOOO.. you see what i mean about ""started comparing the two when they started getting famous" being hilarious.. Michael was ALWAYS FAMOUS.. like right after he took off his diapers.. before he was a teenager.. THEY WERE BORN THE SAME YEAR, & Prince was 2 months older then Michael ...BUT... when Prince put out his first album they were 20. MICHAEL WAS ALREADY A LEGEND.. in 1982 when Prince came with 1999.. Michael was conquering the world with Thriller.. Purple Rain came 2 years later in 1984.. "Started comparing the two when they started getting famous" .. very hilarious. Prince inspired me to go out & buy drum machines, & synths & be the whole band by myself (that seed was planted by Stevie, & Prince watered it). i remember going to see Prince in New York .. & then the next weekend going to see Michael Jackson at the Meadowlands in New Jersey... They were BOTH Kings.. Musical Beast.. what they did will NEVER happen again... i Love them both.

  • @reoscorpio

@@craigprice1598 i never said or in any way meant it as a knock on Prince.. as a Musician.. i think Prince is one of the greatest, & has the best body of work (next to Stevie Wonder). i at the beginning of my comment wrote in capital letters "i ADORE them both" & then at the end.. "i love them both".. But in response to "comparing them when they started getting famous".. i was trying to show people who got on the train decades later how their careers rolled out at different time periods (The Jackson 5 1st album was 1969, & Prince 1st was 1978).. back then EVERYBODY was cloning the Jackson 5 (The Osmonds, The Slyvers.. later the Debarge family. & in 1969 at 11 years old, i'm sure Prince was a Jackson 5 fan too). So i truthfully explained.. Michael was signed by Motown & on the map doing music at least 10 years before Prince.. Michael's work with the Jackson 5 got him inducted into Rock's Hall of Fame. So MJ was already a legend when Prince came on the scene. Even being the Genius that he was.. Prince had not shown that yet... Prince put out "For You" & then Mike dropped "Off the Wall" .. do you really think that from those 2 projects, at the time they came out, that they can be compared (as Equals.. NO).. its not a knock.. just stating facts. i was already writing erotic lyrics, & when i heard "Annie Christian" & "Something in the water does not compute" that blew my mind. it liberated me, & helped me know what i was writing was art too (not freak shit). i waited for & considered the release of "Around the World in a Day" & "Parade" (the soundtrack for "Under the Cherry Moon") as events.. Prince was white hot & couldn't stop. i was taking 3 dance classes a day & would go to the Movie theater on Broadway in New York & watch "Cherry Moon" between classes to chill... Everything that Prince did back then was like "Class is in session", i learned so much from him.. Again, i ADORE Both of them. Til this day, they are the soundtrack to my Life.

Michael could also finish a song in his head. he could beatbox and all. a lot of people don't know these things about michael so they just assume that he can't play musical instruments at all. they think just because he didn't bring it on stage, he couldn't play at all. They forget when he used to play percussion on stage in his Jackson 5 days. MJ was more of dancer than an instrumentist. Prince and Michael were both great and phenomenal in their art.

Great vid, positive stuff like this tends to get ignored because drama sells. I also don't believe there was hate, I think Quincy and others pushed that agenda to add to the drama and mystique. It was this weird thing of Prince looking up to Michael then making it big, then Michael respecting Prince after he made it big. There was high competition, admiration and some kind of envy as well there. Prince wanted to become a pop star, then Michael wanted to be "bad." They each had something the other wanted at some point and then after the 80s I got the impression things cooled down especially with Prince playing down a rivalry in that Chris Rock interview. I had heard about them shooting hoops together and that if Michael did an album it would always appear in an inconspicuous package at Paisley Park before being released to the public and Prince always sent his stuff to Michael. They did have a relationship and one thing this video doesn't mention about the Vegas interaction is that they hung out backstage, one of Prince's singers talked about him introducing her to Michael backstage. Additionally, Tavis Smiley says that days after Michael suddenly passed, Prince spoke to him for hours into the night about how great Michael was. I'm a Prince fan and I'd love to have seen a collab, but Prince fans know, that wasn't his style, he wasn't about something so hugely commercial or an easy #1, he always liked the mystery and leave you hanging and wanting more....even in death his memoirs were just that something that left you hanging and wondering what if. RIP to both icons.

Michael seemed humble and comfortable enough about Princes talent to reach out to him continuously after being turned down! What’s amazing is how humble MJ could be although worldwide he was abundantly superior to Prince as an entertainer! Michael killed Prince with kindness and that’s what grieved Prince at Michaels passing whereby Prince shut down his performances!

@@chelsearogers1289 did you read the comment you are replying to? Michael was simply carrying on a family tradition, it had nothing to do with the artist, who wasn't even using the name Prince when Prince Michael was born

A security guard of prince once said he was doing a show when he heard of Michael’s death, he cancelled the show, refunded everyone’s money, and didn’t leave the room for a week… prince said Michael and him both shared a musical creativity no one could understand and when we lost Michael we lost that creative mindset.

It would have been great if they had done something together like finally Sylvester Stallone did with Arnold and others in the expendables, like Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris did a movie together, like Jackie Chan Jet Li and Donnie Yen have done movies together, like the Rock and Vin Diesel did, they both had same musical friends and worked with the same artists, Michael did a song with Stevie Wonder and Prince was on stage playing with Stevie Wonder once, Whitney Houston was friends with both of them, Prince did a song with Madonna and Michael went with Madonna to an award show, they both worked with Beyoncé on stage
