Hmmm, if I had to pick, Prince is the better song writer, musician and talent. Michael needed others to write for him, he could dance no doubt but Prince is the King here. Prince was also very cool where Jackson started becoming corny.

I think to say that Michael and Prince HATED each other was TOO STRONG a word. I just think they were both in their own UNIVERSE, especially during the HEIGHT of their fame in the 1980s. Anyway, I heard they came TOGETHER towards the END of their careers. I imagine they would talk to each other about the good ol' days, when they RULED the pop charts.

Great vid, positive stuff like this tends to get ignored because drama sells. I also don't believe there was hate, I think Quincy and others pushed that agenda to add to the drama and mystique. It was this weird thing of Prince looking up to Michael then making it big, then Michael respecting Prince after he made it big. There was high competition, admiration and some kind of envy as well there. Prince wanted to become a pop star, then Michael wanted to be "bad." They each had something the other wanted at some point and then after the 80s I got the impression things cooled down especially with Prince playing down a rivalry in that Chris Rock interview. I had heard about them shooting hoops together and that if Michael did an album it would always appear in an inconspicuous package at Paisley Park before being released to the public and Prince always sent his stuff to Michael. They did have a relationship and one thing this video doesn't mention about the Vegas interaction is that they hung out backstage, one of Prince's singers talked about him introducing her to Michael backstage. Additionally, Tavis Smiley says that days after Michael suddenly passed, Prince spoke to him for hours into the night about how great Michael was. I'm a Prince fan and I'd love to have seen a collab, but Prince fans know, that wasn't his style, he wasn't about something so hugely commercial or an easy #1, he always liked the mystery and leave you hanging and wanting more....even in death his memoirs were just that something that left you hanging and wondering what if. RIP to both icons.

I just want to point out that Quincy was a notorious liar and a lot of people have said that story is false and that Michael did not mean to embarrass prince and was only trying to put him on to James brown. Quincy said this around the time when he was saying bad things about Michael so just take that into account.

A security guard of prince once said he was doing a show when he heard of Michael’s death, he cancelled the show, refunded everyone’s money, and didn’t leave the room for a week… prince said Michael and him both shared a musical creativity no one could understand and when we lost Michael we lost that creative mindset.

I mean after all..Prince is the one blamed for not having pictures of them together or collabs. MJ always tried to work with Prince because he was a genius and knew how big it would've been..but Prince's ego couldn't handle it (even though MJ was the biggest pop star on the planet) Prince always tried to be better than MJ..But we understand their Love/Hate relationship and it has to be one of the biggest rivalries of all time!

  • @toobadsapphire7

Bull crap. You're not a fan of neither of them! YOU FOLLOW THE MEDIA'S LIES. All the people close to MJ and Prince confirmed that they were good friends. Prince himself said there was no rival. If I was Prince I wouldn't wanna play a music role where the First line is "your butt is mine". It sounds gay. They were competitive but still friends. Cat glover who worked with Prince in the 80s, spoke on their friendship and how they went to each other's shows, houses, and played games together. And they have a Collab in Prince's vault of unreleased music.

Both were very talented and both ruled the same planet of music, two similar characters, but each one unique and with their own taste. I guess Prince didn’t wanted to collaborate with him because of competition, not about hate. I guess Michael was his admirer and wanted to get a little of his taste. When both guys looked at each other I don’t think they never had a fight because they don’t look like fighters to me, I think they had funny conversations, and cutting down each other like little children, like little kids playing with each other, that it can be a natural happy friendship.

Both of them are dead now but sorry Prince you were just second to the "Ultimate Entertainer", Michael Jackson, the "King of Pops". As his name entails of course the prince had to vow to the king but Prince can never accept that. Because of his ego, he alienated himself from all of his fellow musical artists. Prince may have locked himself or did things to give "honor (?)" to Michael when he died but it was all TOO LATE. "How can the hay serve its purpose to the horse if the horse is already dead?" Useless! Numerous times Michael reached out to Prince but he rejected it one by one. Tribute (?) after death, after all his rejections, ha? Sincerity, anyone??? Fear of being maligned by the public, maybe, if he didn't do anything for Michael after MJ's death.
