Priming Crackle Microstars

Applying black-powder prime to crackle microstars. The wetting solution has potassium dichromate in it, to prevent reactions between the water and the crackle composition. Use gloves and a respirator when working with potassium dichromate.

so when you prime with bp, is it intentionally fine powder bp? when i make bp i wet and screen it like most people do you make up bp and omit that step and set it aside earmarked for priming?

Did you use just dextrin liquor or dextrin liquor with potassium dichromate? I was reading the article on FW and was a bit confused. Thanks for the video though, Ned!

Untitled Username I guess you could add sodium or potassium benzoate if you’re worried about it going rancid?

What % potassium dichromate do you add to the water. I've got some left over chems from skylighter's veline star kit, thought I'd give these a try. Just need the "Bismuth Subcarbonate". Thanks Ned

I've used plain water, but the K-dichromate solution is safer. 200g per gallon of water is a good ratio, which can be scaled down as needed. ned

Is the pot. dichromates ratio determined by the amount of bp used, crackle used or is it a percent by volume or weight in the water used?

Also, if used as star cores does every layer after the crackle or prime need a dichromate solution to wet it?

Plain BP prime should work fine, Chris. Did you use raw chemicals, of did you start with a granulated BP base?

@@christianduquette2173 I'd still go with a good layer of BP prime, using a slower charcoal such as commercial, mixed-hardwood airfloat.

I saw on one of your vidéo that you dump your star in deep fry basket and you drench them with dextrin liquor! My stars are 3/8" so should I just spray them or try your method of fryer basket? Don't wanna ruined them!

All you guys are waiting for answers to? Don't hold your breath waiting on this guy, the answers you seek are available for a fee though. And may even catapult you to the front of the line. Sorry, but money seams to be the only reason for a reasonably timed response. Why waist time answering questions from people who aren't contributing to the site, when there are paying customers waiting on response as well? Just one mans experience with said site, good luck guys!

That's true, Jerry. I spend all day long creating projects and articles in the site, and discussing things in the Forum. As I say in the first few seconds of each video, "For More Details, Join us at......" I can't spend the time, and don't have the space, in KZread reply sections to continually repeat myself, when all that info, plus much more, is in the website. ned
